Aug 19, 2011In my Flex 4.5 mobile app, I have an actionScript item renderer (that derives from Flex's LabelItemRenderer). I want to fit in exactly 2 lines of text, and then truncate the rest. The width and height of the label are fixed and known statically. How can I do this? The StyleableTextField.truncateToFit() method only works for one line of text.
I've set wordWrap = true, so the text now flows into the second line - but I need to truncate the text if it doesn't fit in two lines. I need it to show all the text if there is only one line. (in both cases the label should be vertically middle-aligned in my renderer) I know how to override layoutContents to do sizing and positioning etc of the StyleableTextField. So I'm looking specifically for ideas to implement custom text truncation with the StyleableTextField).

Oct 20, 2010If I create a mx:Label or mx:Text control in Flex and then set an opaqueBackground to it, I notice that there is some space around the text.
I would like to be able to get rid of that space to where the text is completely flush to the top and bottom of the label. Changing the gap, padding, and leading didn't seem to help. Is it possible to get the text completely flush to the sides of a label?

Aug 11, 2010I wrote a function to override y FLEX LineChart's datatips because the default datatips were ugly and rather boring.I finally set the style I wanted but am now having some problems removing un-necessary tags from being displayed in the custom datatips.For example, the datatips now display things like this:
"<b>Humidity</b></BR>2010-07-05T00:15:00"
I can always perform a "Replace()" to remove those break and bold HTML tags, but that seems really un-necessary and anti-development.I am using this to set the dataTip's label text:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Send Multi-Line TextField Text To Database?
Jul 18, 2010I am sending a dynamic multi-line textField text to a database. Upon receiving it back, it doesn't display it in multi-line format properly. I am also using htmlText, so it stores it all the font / size /etc in the database perfectly.This code shows you the textField attibutes, both the text I create and send to MYSQL, and the text I get back also calls upon these exact attributes

when I called upon the text from the database. It at least made it multi-line, but it messed it up a bunch also. My text is only 3 lines, but with wordWrap, it made it 8 and made it look off.Anyway, the text / font / color and everything comes in perfectly, except for the multi-line part.
Multi Threading In Flex

Suppose the two events occur at the same instant (or in quick succession) will the handler be called twice, one after the other or there is a chance that if the handler function is taking too much time to execute the same handler can start executing simultaneously.

Flex :: Multi-dimensional Arrays In AS3?
May 5, 2011I am currently playing around with flex, I have C++ background, so I am not used to AS3.The problem is in the main*.mxml file I have fx:script block and I try to define a multidimensional array like that:

I use a function to initialize the 2d-array:

This function gets called later on in the main loop to init and reset the "board" why doesn't it work. The only difference to the AS3 documentation is that it gets done in a function.

I want to add another text field, but am running into trouble with the TileList.How can I create two different labels with TileList and call to them?I want "Title" and "Desc". I can work around it by putting it all into one label, but then I cannot style the title seperate from the description.
