View 1 RepliesI have an online flex app that is served via an html page. Its critical that the flex app is refreshed in the user's cache every time that it changes. To help ensure that this happens, I change the name of the swf file every time that it changes. In addition, the html page contains the following lines of code:

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="-1">
Using these techniques, FF and IE always seem to grab the latest swf file every time. Google chrome, however, NEVER gets the latest swf file - the only way to get the update is to hit shift+refresh in chrome.
Is there a fail-safe way for me to ensure that the latest swf file is always delivered to the browser?

Being proficient in C# and .net, I feel that Silverlight may be the easiest for me to work with. I am worried however with regards to the penetration of Silverlight (this is a consumer-facing application). I am not asking to implement Google Maps into my web application. Once I get logged in on my login control, I would like to change the selected index of my ViewStack. From my outside controls, I cannot reference my ViewStack by name. I can reference a public static function from an outside control however I cannot refer to the ViewStack from within that function.

I have been trying to promote a new web site written entirely in full browser flash. Nobody at all was comfortable with the idea of checking out inside of flash (even though its just as secure). So I went to the only method I could think of which is a getUrl into a new window with my https checkout page. Well, I guess with popup blockers and such... this is proving to be a disaster. I am losing most of my customers after two or three attempts to checkout according to my logs. They either cant figure out how to allow the popup or it spits them out and they lose the order.
Okay so im pretty frustrated. Then I start thinking about how I am calling facebooks java api from within flash to popup requests in front of my flash movie. Maybe there is some method like this? Something I can do via external interface? I really have to get this figured out as soon as possible. I am very curious to see what people here have done about this issue.
If I need to call a specific function in the parent application from a child in a flex project, what's the best practice for this? Would it be to dispatch a custom event from the child and have a listener call that function? Or to directly call the function with FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication?

View 2 RepliesI am writing a Flex application for use on a private intranet with no external Internet access. I want to use Google's 3D Maps Flex API, but it must be connected to the internet to download map tiles on demand.
Is there a way to locally cache the 3D map tiles and data so that I can run this app without an internet connection? And if not, is there a 3D GIS that supports Flex integration and allows for a local map cache?
I'm trying to develop a simple mxml Flex application to start Skype from the AIR/Flashplayer runtime. Is it possible to get back events from a native Windows application? In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?
