I should build a web application for back-office purposes and one of the main requisites is a good UI. On server-side I'll use Java very likely Spring framework, depending on what I'll be using client-side. I think to basically have 3 choices for client-side: a "normal" web application, meaning JSP pages, using JQuery framework. In this case, I will use full Spring's features, complete MVC pattern etc. I've been using Spring and JQuery for 2 years, so I know these techs very well. But I also know that it's quite complicated to realize some effects, much javascript code involved, specially when dealing with ajax calls and dynamic changes of page structure.
Flex with add-ons such as BlazeDs to integrate with Spring. I have no experience using Flex, I just read some articles and tutorial about it, but I really would like to learn something new :-) Google Web Toolkit, maybe with something like gwt-ext. No experience, but I really like to learn. It's plenty of support out there if I need, but I think I will struggle to maintain Spring MVC and GWT in the same project, I read that it's not so easy but there are a couple of patterns to follow.

What is the best way to maintain data in the list in an up-to-date state? The simplest option I see is the following:
Select an item in the list Edit it in the form Save it. The form submits the data to the server When the server reports success the list re-fetches it's data The very bad thing about this workflow is that the list loses selection (a tree would also loose the nodes' expanded/collapsed state). I would really love to find out another option which would enable the list to maintain it's selection state.
I have flexlib WindowShade component in repeater in my Flex + AIR application.

Now in button1 click handler I am appending child in XML(mainMenuXML) resulting adding one more windowshade instance. But the problem is it opens all the windowshade instances. I need to maintain the opened states after adding a new windowshade instance.
For example:
Initially I get 3 windoshades with labels: abc, xyz, lmn all opened.
Now I close the xyz windowshade instance(by clicking on the header)
Now I click on button which appends child in mainMenuXML and also add a windowshade instance with some label "pqr". But now I see all the windowshade instances opened.
But it should be like abc, lmn, pqr should be opened & xyz closed(property opened="false").
How to maintain the opened true/false state of windowshade instances. I tried to add a property in dataprovider Bindable to opened property of windhowshade but didn't worked for me.
I tried with flex and java in the backend. In this, I am able to upload files till 100 MB using remote object (blazeDs) where we will read the file as byte array and send it to the java method. If the file size exceeds after that, then I get the run time error in IE.

When i make a small change in Flex code (eg, reposition of a button...anything), and run the project on server, it does make any change on output. Actually it depends on my luck... because it makes change in output randomly.what is is happening? tried rebuild, republish, clean , restart server, restarting the IDE, restarting the computer all available feature i could think. Then i got a Flex service class calling BlazeDS and executing the getCategories java method. Since Flash dosn't seem to understand typed arrays, the result from that method which i get back in flex is a simple array of untyped objects (the mapping dosn't seem to work here, even tought the class category exists in flex and has the same properties).
thats the first thing. but however, i'm converting the untyped objects manually into objects of the category.as class. the second thing is that categories have child-categories within the java object, which are also ArrayLists of the type category.java. the problem about that: my result event object only contains the first level of categories, looking into them the children are allways null. i dunno why they are empty, since they ARE part of the java object category.
and the third thing (the strangest by fast), you maybe noticed i named the properties of the category.java class strange, like idCat and nameTest instead of simply id and name. why that? because the property names of my flex result objects dont seem to change when i change the java objects properties names (result object properties are named "id" and "name" but the java class object properties are named "idCAT" and "nameTEST"). that it REALLY strange, since if i set the properties, like you see at nameTEST = "TESTNAME" it IS recogniced by flex, only the proertyNAMES dont seem to be recognized at all.

I've just recently started out using Flash Builder and have a question surrounding states. In fact I'm not entirely sure it is related to states but read on and I hope it will become clearer. I currently have a custom component that contains 3 comboboxes. This resides in a TabNavigator component. The TabNavigator consits of 5 pages (Tabs). The custom container holding the comboboxes should display the same selected data across all Tabs. ie. If I am in Tab1 and select an item from one of the comboboxes then click on Tab2 I need to mirror the combobox's selection in Tab2.

I'm using flex's server that uses an emulate of tomcat when i ran my flex service the web app got the datas, everythings is ok. the problem is when i copy the project with all files generated by flex in my tomcat or the blazeds's tomcat, it doesn't work, this is becasue i want to implement my app on a server the error is:[code]

View 1 RepliesAs the title indicates the question is in regards to the service layer of a flex application. Specifically in a test case class. To call the services the user must first authenticate through an html/CF based page. Once that's done and the authentication has occurred the user is directed to the html page with the flex application embedded in. Once authenticated the server side CF code writes a cookie to the users computer. This cookie is then read by the flex app and is required for the flex app to make calls to the CF services.
The question is: how should this be handled in a test case class for the service class in the flex app? The following steps need to basically take place: use some account data to hit the server and authenticate, the cookie then needs to be written (which it will already), then the test case needs to pick up the session id from the cookie and pass it to the service call within the test case. That just all seems like too much for a test case class.
So, how is this type of thing usually handled. From what I gather it's typical for web service calls to require a session id like this.
Inside a flex app, I have a user login. The login calls a ColdFusion function as a remote object which authenticates the user and, if applicable, returns their id and access level. This works fine, but now I'm at the point where I want to also create a cookie for another ColdFusion template (called from fileReference.upload()) to be able to access later. I have tried several different methods for creating the cookie -- cfcookie, creating a cookie with JavaScript inside the ColdFusion function, and creating the cookie with JavaScript with an external interface once the coldfusion function returns to the flex result handler. All of these have been tried with a plethora of options regarding expiration, path, and domain tags.

I have a set of RESTful web services. These services are protected on a Glassfish server by OpenSSO. When I attempt to call the RESTful services directly from a browser, OpenSSO intercepts the request, then forwards the request to the REST service once the user's credentials are authenticated. OpenSSO utilizes a session cookie on subsequent requests (until the session is invalidated) . I'm sure this piece is working correctly.We'd like to call these services from a Flex client. In order to enable PUT and DELETE operations, we set up BlazeDS to proxy the RESTful requests from the flex client to the REST service. When security to the RESTful services is disabled, this piece works great.
Now we're trying to secure the entire application. We've placed the Flex SWF into a war and deploy to Glassfish. We've placed security around this resource and when a user attempts to download the SWF (through an HTML link in the war), OpenSSO intercepts the request, then forwards to the application on successful authorization (just like it does for the RESTful web services).The problem is - the RESTful calls made by the Flex application (via BlazeDS) are failing. OpenSSO seems to be intercepting these requests as well and again asking for the users credentials. It doesn't seem the authentication cookies are being passed to (or maybe by) the BlazeDS proxy.
Does an AIR app built with Flex have something similar to a browser cookie? I want the app to remember a simple value, like date when the app was last opened. I'd rather not create a SQlite database just for this.

I think the eclipse e4 SWT project doesn't compile to ABC (ActionScript Byte Code) directly, but first converts Java to AS3 and then the Flex compilter does the rest.Could it be that no one yet wrote a simple Java / Python / Scala AVM2 compiler that can be used as an alternative to the proprietary Adobe Flash Builder (formerly Flex Builder)?I don't mind paying Adobe for a fine producy, but writing Java in eclipse is so much faster and convinent than the half baked adobe plugin suite. are there really no efforts other than haXe?

The idea is a producer declared in Java send message using activeMQ and consumer declared in Flex receives them. I have configured the AMFChannel with a polling interval 0, but I have seen when the consumer subscribes to the destination in Flex, the time request can be of up to 3 seconds.
