Javascript :: Close Popup Opened By Embeded Flash
Nov 17, 2011
I have my html where I embed third-party flash video by means of iframe. When I click play on the video a popup is opened. I was wondering id there is a way to add a javascript function to my html that would close such a popup immediately when it is opened?

I created a Flash application that reads POST data from a form. A user clicks the button, and the data gets posted to the flash app in a new window (_blank). Now takes the data and then spins a wheel to give users a prize. If they don't win a message pops up letting them know they didn't win. If they don't win, clicking the OK button needs to close the browser window.
I've tried a number of solutions and it seems that the only way to get this done is to launch the window with javascript and then use ExternalInterface.call('window.close'); to close the window from within the Flash actionscript (3) because otherwise the window won't close (I've tried just using window.close and window.close() with no luck)
I understand how to launch a new window with javascript, but I don't know how to simultaneously launch and POST data to that window (the Flash application has to have the POST data. Is this the best solution? Is there a way to close a browser window easier than what I'm describing?[URL]

I need to close the popup(adobe flex), non modal window if I click on the parent page of the popup. I have to do the out of focus check and then do some validation before close the popup. So what I was thinking that is there any inbuilt focus check event or do we need to create custom event for that?

I'm setting up a scenario with 12 doors, each with unique (but not sequential) instance names. I've set up a variable that, when a door is clicked, it takes on the instance name of that door. This is working.When clicked, the door movieclip plays to a midpoint in it's own timeline and stops (open position). You can close it by clicking the now opened door which returns it to frame one of it's timeline.Now, I'm trying to make the next door clicked check first to see if the previously clicked door is still open. If it is, it will make the previously open door play() <----- this will hit the end of the open door's timeline which resets it to frame one > and then play itself and set it's instance name as the new "lastOpened" door variable.I was able to manually do it (trying to avoid overlap with neighboring doors) by just directly referring to the instance names so I thought it'd be as simple as dropping the instance name and referring to the variable.[code]

I've got a bit of code that opens a popup, then tries to send info to it using localConnection. It's not working, is it because it's sending the connection too early? How can I make it check that the window is open before I send it?

I have a webpage (popup) with flash content. When a user clicks a button inside the flash content, it opens up another browser popup window. Next, I need to close the window with flash content from the newly opened popup window through javascript.
The problem is that the window.Opener is null as the popup is invoked inside from flash content. Moreover we dont have access to flash (.FLA) file.

I have a parent window that has a flash movie embedded in it. When a certain button is clicked inside the flash movie, it calls a a pop up javascript function to pop up a window with another flash movie embedded in it. This flash movie (the one embedded in the pop up window) has a button that I need to close the pop up and refresh the parent window when clicked. (i.e., when the user clicks the button, the pop up closes and the main parent window goes to a different URL).
I used javascripting inside flash to do so, it works fine, however, I keep getting a warning message when using IE : ("The website you are viewing is trying to close the window, do you want to close this window?"). This message is not displayed in FireFox. I don't want this message to appear. I read about a lot of solutions around this, however, they only work when I test them in regular html pages, but not when used in a button inside a flash movie.

I've got a flex project that I'm working on. Currently I've got a popup that consists of another mxml file containing a form.
Once the form is filled in and submitted I'd like to run another function then the popup closes on the main mxml file, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this?
Here's my popup code
private var weightadd:weight_add; //POP UP ADD WEIGHT FORM
private function weightAdd():void {
weightadd = new weight_add();
[Code]....
Currently in my weight_add.mxml file I'm using a button to close the popup, I'd like have this button close the popup and then call a function in my main.mxml file - I'm just wondering how I go about doing this.
<mx:Button x="186" y="83" label="Cancel" styleName="formbutton" id="cancel_button" click="PopUpManager.removePopUp(this);"/>

Have been having difficulty with this issue of getting a close button to work within a mc popup box (it is doing my head in !) Basically I have a Button on the stage that launches a popup mc. To close this popup, I have a 'x' for the user to click on to close this box. I don't want the box to become 'invisible' or for the whole box to close when clicked on (I have tried both but not what i am after). It is important for user to be able to relaunch this box by clicking on the button after closing previously.
It would be great if anyone would be able to view the fla atatched and explain what needs to be included, and perhaps upload a working verison.

The only way I have found so far to capture the browser window close event from actionscript/flash is actually to capture the event in javascript, and then use a javascript/flash data passing from the javascript callback.
Something around those lines:
window.onbeforeunload = clean_up;
function clean_up()
{
var flex = document.${application} || window.${application};
[Code].....

I posted about this a few weeks ago but it's still unresolved....I'm about ready to cry or go postal or both. I would love any input you might have. Another Flashkit member said he thought it might be line 23 of the html code, but I can't identify what's wrong with it. I will seriously send you a bar of fine chocolate I have created a multimedia site that pops up swf photo galleries. Trouble is.....the swf's are not loading in the popup windows. Here is an example:[URL] The link that opens the gallery is halfway down on the right.
It works perfectly on my local machine, and you can navigate directly to the swf ([URL]) so I'm thinking it's something in the html code of either the gallery "popper" or the "poppee." This is a recent development--until sometime this year it worked just fine. Not sure if some web standard changed or what?

I am trying to open a new browser window popup from Flash. I am using:
[Code]....
What is supposed to happen is that the popup should open in a new smaller window whilst the original window keeps displaying the flash file. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there a better way to go about this? NOTE: I know that you can call JavaScript functions and house your js in the HTML file, but I cannot edit the HTML file since it is a page from a remote site.

I know this might have been discussed somewhere else, but I couldn't find it where it worked using a variable as the url. So I have tried a few things but what I have right now is:
the button is set to: getURL("javascript:openNewWindow(movie,'thewin','h eight=400,width=400,toolbar=no,scrollbars=yes') ");
Movie being the name of the variable set up earlier in the project to randomly choose my swf movie that I want to play. Then of course I have the function set up in the HTML page to listen for the variables for the URL, name and windowsettings.I can get the whole thing to work with an HTML page in the URL, but I can't get a variable to work....

In Flash, I programmed a directions html page to close when a link is selected.However, it asks if you are sure if you want to close the page.Well, my audience will probably hyperventilate if they see that pop-up.Is there a way just to hard close a html window without the pop-up message?Also, are there any good tutorials out there combining Flash and Javascript?
