Python :: Strange Behavior Of Sockets In Python (3.2). Client Connects To Application Using Flash?

Jul 14, 2011

I experience strange behavior of sockets in Python (3.2). Client connects to my application using Flash. Most of the time there is nothing unusual but sometimes python crashes in a way that should not have taken place - enter into infinite loops. Below I attach to the loop code and error message in the log. Python hang on bytesRecived = sock.recv(64) and receive b'' witch is visible in log.

code:
try:
buff = ''

I'm looking to employ an approach similar to the one outlined here to implement the business logic for my application, but additionally, I would like to provide the user with a single binary which they can load. I don't want the user to have to fire up a seperate server process to make this work.

Now I want to use the swf file outside of a browser and still be able to access its methods, but now I want to use Python to call ActionScript. Is it possible? There is so little information about it in the Internet. Probably I can use AMF (pyAmf) for this, can I?

Python :: Flex Application - Custom User Authentication?

Jul 27, 2010

I'm using Google Engine App with Python. I want to add custom user authentication. How is it done, with the best practices? I want custom authentication because the app is built in Flex and I don't want to redirect to an HTML page.

The user value object is like this:
class User(db.Model):
email = db.EmailProperty(required = True, indexed = True)
masked_password = db.StringProperty(required = True)
# maybe more things here

I would like to mask the password, is there some built in function in GAE? Then, how I will remember the current user? Through sessions and cookies? Or what else?

Python :: Make A Flex Application Where It Gets Data From A Telnet Connection?

Feb 7, 2010

I am trying to make a flex application where it gets data from a telnet connection and I am running into a weird problem.To give a brief introduction, i want to read data from a process that exposes it through a socket. So if in the shell i type telnet localhost 8651i receive the xml and then the connection is closed (I get the following Connection closed by foreign host.)

Anyway i found a simple tutorial online for flex that essentially is a telnet client and one would expect it to work but everything follows Murphy's laws and nothing ever works.Now i have messages being printed in every event handler and all places that i can think off. When i connect to the socket nothing happens, no event handler is triggered even the connect or close handler and if i do the following the socket.connected returns false! I get no errors, try catch raises no exception. I am at a loss as to whats going wrong?

socket.connect(serverURL, portNumber);
msg(socket.connected.toString());

Is there something about telnet that i do not know and its causing this to not work. Whats more interesting is why none of the events get fired.The following is the python code that works!

def getStats(host, port):
sock = socket.socket()
sock.connect((host, port))[code]....

Python :: Json Communication Between Flash And Javascript?

Jan 20, 2010

note: using django/python/javascript/flash So its been two days since I'm stuck at the error. I did the things you told me to and found a couple of ways around it but nothing worked. These are the results.Javascript does not receive the normal string it has to be a json object so. in views.py

somestring = json.dumps("HELLO WORLD")

which renders this in HTML

"HELLO WORLD"

and in javascript it is rendered like this

Now, since it is a json object I need to convert it back in flash. But when it gets in flash where I receive it like this

function something(hellovar){

}

it does not even come inside the function.

Python :: Including Flash Content Inline In A Custom Weblog?

Aug 1, 2010

I'm trying to think of a way to place Flash content into a blog post so that it appears inline between paragraphs. I'm writing a custom weblog application in Django (still learning) and I'll be using SWFObject for the embedding.The blog is for me only so the back-end isn't too fancy. I'm simply using Django's built in admin interface. No TinyMCE rich text editor (like Wordpress), rather I've implemented Markdown.I'd like to add Flash content into the body of a post, between paragraphs, in a way that is not coupled to any third party script. Meaning, I would prefer not to include javascript within the body of the blog post as it introduces a dependency on SWFObject. For example, I could quite easily add the following to an entry via the back-end to embed a SWF inline:[code]As you can see this is quite wordy and a lot to remember but it also refers to SWFObject directly. This WILL work, however I would prefer to write it in a "cleaner" more abstract way. What I was thinking of doing is creating my own parser which would translate a custom string into the above just before rendering a template.

Python :: Library That Can Capture Still Images From Flash / HTML5 Video?

Nov 9, 2010

Part of a web application I am developing requires the ability to capture still images from a Flash or HTML5 video playing with in a browser. Actually, users of this web app will also have to have the ability to:

Draw a crop box on top of the Flash/HTML5 video player
Be able to resize that box if necessary
Capture the image with in the crop box frame
Have that image be saves and sent to the server

Also, this video image crop/capture tool will also have to be restricted to the perimeter of the video frame. I don't want users getting confused and potentially capturing an image outside of the video frame because all we are concerned about is the content of the video.
