View 2 RepliesI'd like to convert an arbitrary string (or for easier process a string hash) to a float number between 0 and 1. The purpose is to create a function that returns a color code for a given string so the user always sees that entity in the same color that is generated from its name.OP included this code in comments (included here for readability):
var hashed:String = MD5.hash(input); // creates a 32 long hexa
const max:Number = Number("0xffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff");
var hashedHexa:Number = Number("0x" + hashed);
[code]....
Here's what I'm trying to do. The user types a number, such as 12.011, in an input box. I want to check to see if the number they typed is between two numbers, such as 12 and 12.1.Therefore, I want to convert the string in the input box to a float number, not an integer, so I can check to see if it's in the correct range. How do I convert a string into a float number?
View 2 Repliesvar myNumber:Number = 1.8;
trace(myNumber);
The above gives "1.7999999999999998"
conversion of String(myNumber) also gives "1.7999999999999998"
This only happens with certain numbers. If (myNumber == 1.4) it doesn't give me this problem.
I've checked with the debugger and the values are correct both before and after the trace or String conversion. However, the string itself is incorrect.
is there way make swf like this : http:[url]......

I need to convert a base64 encoded string from a server (being sent via amf) to an image. on the server the raw image data (gif / jpeg / png) is being encoded to base64 (which already works fine), and I need to decode this string and display the image in my flash movie.
View 2 RepliesOne trick shown me that I could use bytes+"" which convert into String but not a pure String. It is acceptable by any UI components except it won't accept when I throw bytes+"" into switch statement. How do I convert bytearray to pure string?

I am using AS 2 in Flash CS3 and XML. I have the function named in the XML file which I would like to be called via a rotating banner. However I can't seem to convert the string (read via the XML file) to convert to the function name. a trace reveals that the correct string is being called: _parent._parent._parent.loadFunction. urls[count] is the array that stores the function name. Here is the script:

Flash will be receiving a string from the web, either Javascript or query string from the URL(which I'm comfortable with). GOAL: Use that string as a byte array and convert it to bitmap data and display on the screen.MY PERCEPTION: Use ByteArray and readBytes (I've worked with neither before) to parse the string. Then convert that into Bitmap Data and draw the bitmap on the stage.
View 4 RepliesI'm working on a small web project Combines between flash AS3 and php ,the project Depends on three steps...

In AS2 you had the functions ord() and chr() which specifically converted ASCII codes to their string equivalents.
However in AS3, String.charCodeAt() and String.fromCharCode() work with Unicode values.
Is there any way to convert a string character to its ASCII equivalent and back?
I have converted a jpg image to Base64 string and saved somewhere. Now How can i convert this Base64 encoded string to bitmapData in flash as2?

I am having many websites . In that I have to send some parameters from php to flash. All the parameters are getting correctly displayed in flash except the currency symbol. These currency symbols are extracted from db to php in form of html entities like(& pound;). I can't change the db as it will require many changes in all websites of mine. I have used rawurlencode in php before sending to flash but in flash it gets displayed as & pound; in flash. I have given space between "&" and "pound;" so it is not converted to symbol in the post . In db it is correctly entered with no space. Previously , I was sending directly by writing the object tag in php file and and writing the parameters in params tag withing object tag. It was working perfectly fine . Now I have start using swfobject.js javascript library of hosted by google for embedding the flash content. Now its not working ( currency symbol is not getting displayed instead it html entity unicode shown above is getting displayed.) . I can't change the flash files also. I have to handle it from php or javascript code only.
View 1 RepliesI purchased ANYRD Flash Cart component a while back. Recently Paypal took a great step forward by adding support for Mexican Pesos. So since I live in Mexico people is more open to do a transaction in Pesos rather than Dollars or Euros. The downside for me is that MXN is not in the component's list of supported currencies. It is a dropdown option in the component inspector so I have no way of changing this. anyrd.com website has been down for several months so I don't think I can get any support from them and I don't see an update any time soon (or at all).
View 4 RepliesWhat I have is a flash media player, and I want this to float on top of our forum such that when a user scrolls down, the media player follows.
I have yet to find a way to make it sit above html. It always pushes it down.
You can see the media player I am talking about at [URL]

I'm loading a toolbar that goes over the content of a website that is reviewed. The toolbar has some information we can fill in about the website we're reviewing. There is a problem when there's flash embedded in the original page. Our toolbar will show up behind the flash movie, so we can't use the toolbar as intended. Since we don't have control over the page that is loaded we can not alter the settings of the embedded video.
The question is: how can we make the DIV appear floating above the FLASH even though we don't have control over the embedded flash object?
I want to take the following information, which I have as a string in Flash, and convert it into an XML object in AS3:

I want to implement a gameplay recording feature in a project, which would only record player input and seed of the RNG at the beginning of the level. Then I could take such record and play it on my computer in order to test it for validity.I'm only concerned with some numerical differences which might appear between different Flash Player version, Operating Systems or CPUs (or whatever else that might be affected). The project would be written for Flash Player 10.0.0+. What stuff I am concerned with:

I won't be using stuff like hitTest, getObjectsUnderPoint, hitTestPoint, getBounds and so on, all collisions will be geometrical.So, are there any chances that using any of the pointed things above will yield different results on different systems? If so, what can I do to avoid them?
I'm using BlazeDS to marshall Java objects to Flex. What I'm seeing is that if a Java Float holds a integer value (whole number, such as 123), then it gets marshalled to a ActionScript int. I would expect that a Java Float always gets marshalled to an ActionScript Number as documented in the BlazeDS Developer Guide.
Is there a way to configure this or is this just a BlazeDS bug? Follow-up: The float is contained within a map. The Java map that is being passed to BlazeDS looks something like:
[Code]...
So it's serializing the value correctly, just as the wrong type.
I just started learning Flash Actionscript.
this._y = random(Stage.height)-(this._height/2)-Stage.height-200;
I got it from a code that make ball falling from top to bottom and i analysis that is this code that make it work. I wanted to change the code to make float from bottom to top.
I'm trying to convert an variable that contains XML data to a String. Anyone have a clue on how to achieve this?
My main problem is that the XML data is formatted nicely, but I need to store it in the database without the linebreaks and tab stops and whitespaces.
I think converting it into string would work with .toString();, but that doesn't get rid of the XML formatting...
Code:
function f_choosePhoto(photoNum)
{
var photos:Array = ["photo0","photo1","photo2"];
[Code].....
I've cobbled the AS together from a couple of seperate tutorials, and if I replace "new this[path](560, 380);" with "new photo1(560, 380);" it works.
I want to simply some repetitive code like this:
letter1.gotoAndPlay(Math.round(Math.random()*letter1.totalFrames));letter2.gotoAndPlay(Math.round(Math.random()*letter2.totalFrames));letter3.gotoAndPlay(Math.round(Math.random()*letter3.totalFrames));
I want to store letter1... into a string array. so I can call all of them with a loop.
Been searching for a simple way to do this but it's not out there, or is it?
I simply need to convert a sting to an int. The string will be a number, that is a given.
