Is there a way to convert a string to a Movieclip. so if i have an item in the library called: A and a text field on the stage with a show button. And say I typed A and clicked the submit button it would show the A mc. I get an error... 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: charUC.
ActionScript Code: submit_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, up) function up (e:MouseEvent):void { var char:String=myText.text.charAt(0) var charUC=char.toLocaleUpperCase() trace(charUC) var mc:charUC = new charUC(); addChild(mc); mc.x = currentSpot; currentSpot = currentSpot + 100; }
How do I join two strings into a movieclip so that it works out to string1_mc.string2_mc i.e.
var monthID = "monthCal"+newMonth var dayID = "day"+monthArray[newMonth][e].eventDate; trace(this[monthID]._name) // this works and traces the correct name
trace(this[monthID].calendar_mc.this[dayID]._name); // this does not work.
the dayID is in calendar_mc, which is in the monthID
How do I convert an integer to a string value? This must be easy. "Ya guys in SO are da best at explaining." I'm still working on these dumb counters.
NEED TO JOIN THIS TOGETHER
//My counter project "sends to dynamic text field" var timer:Timer = new Timer(10); var count:int = 0; //start at -1 if you want the first decimal to be 0
I need to convert a base64 encoded string from a server (being sent via amf) to an image. on the server the raw image data (gif / jpeg / png) is being encoded to base64 (which already works fine), and I need to decode this string and display the image in my flash movie.
One trick shown me that I could use bytes+"" which convert into String but not a pure String. It is acceptable by any UI components except it won't accept when I throw bytes+"" into switch statement. How do I convert bytearray to pure string?
private function socketDataHandler(event:ProgressEvent):void { try { rsocket = event.target as Socket;[code]............
I am using AS 2 in Flash CS3 and XML. I have the function named in the XML file which I would like to be called via a rotating banner. However I can't seem to convert the string (read via the XML file) to convert to the function name. a trace reveals that the correct string is being called: _parent._parent._parent.loadFunction. urls[count] is the array that stores the function name. Here is the script:
Flash will be receiving a string from the web, either Javascript or query string from the URL(which I'm comfortable with). GOAL: Use that string as a byte array and convert it to bitmap data and display on the screen.MY PERCEPTION: Use ByteArray and readBytes (I've worked with neither before) to parse the string. Then convert that into Bitmap Data and draw the bitmap on the stage.
I have a movieClip on the stage called "home_btn" and another called "home". When moving over the home_btn movieClip I want the timeline inside of home to play. I used the slice command to get rid of the _btn which works fine, which is proven by the trace command, but it doesn't seem to be able to enter the timeline of home.
home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, onOver); function onOver(event:MouseEvent) { var selectedButton:Object;
however I can not get it to work for some reason. What i would like to do is call an arbitrary component that extends Canvas. Since there may be a variety of components named TestCanvasA, TestCanvasC, TestCanvasC which i won't know till run-time I figured this would be the way to go about it. Here is what i have.
I am trying to add and remove children from the stage using a string. the string takes the instance name from the button pressed and i want to use that string to add a child from my library and its giving me:
"TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "Floor2" to flash.display.DisplayObject."
I realize i have to make the string into the actual object but not exactly sure how.
Code: var rollstr:String = this.toString(); var Floor1 = new floor1(); var Floor2 = new floor2();
How do I make sure that a movie clip that starts on the stage has a higher zindex then when I addChild and add a linked movieClip from the library.
Really my code is pretty simple
background_image = new Sprite(); main_container.addChild (background_image);
But I have a movieClip "message_box" that I dragged onto the main timeline. When i add the background_image which is the full size of the stage it overlays the "message_box"
I know you can set the childs index but how do I set the "message_box" index?
I have gotten the AR tutorials from [url]....and are having fun with the flarsquidderkit for multiple pattern detection.However I would like to have a start page, and a high score page for the game based on this, and have tough time figuring how to make the timeline code works for this.
flarsquidderkit have extended papervision3d and has its own 3DdisplayObject, and the flash's MovieClip addChild() is not working.how to extend the movieClip class when my document class has already extended another super class,and also if I can control the score via timeline instead of dumping every single thing in to the document class?
1180:Call to a possibly undefined method AddFrameScript Code: Select allpublic class MultiFLARExample extends PVFLARBaseApplication {
In my .fla file, in frame 1 on the main timeline, I have a Button symbol in the display list. When that button is clicked, a function removes it from the display list, then adds a MovieClip (created in the library & exported for AS3) to the display list, then plays the MovieClip. Within that MovieClip, on the last frame is the stop(); function. The MovieClip is an animation of a transition from one room to another.Everything works ok up to this point.
After the MovieClip is done playing, I need to add more whatevers to the display list (such as a button to transition back to the previous room).The problem is I don't know how to tell ActionScript to wait till the MovieClip has played before adding to the display list. When trying to get it to do so, it just skips to the last frame of the MovieClip, not playing the animation.
I fought with the IDE and read around all day enough to learn that in AS3, the exported class name of a lib symbol matters.I have hello.fla. In it I created a simple textfield with a string ('hello') - coverted it to a symbol (movieclip) and did the following:
made the classname 'Hello'. Export for AS is checked Export in first frame is checked.
Once i did all that i nuked the instance on the stage. I thought I might add some extra functionality later so I actually also built a Hello.as class, which extends MovieClip, and which lives in the default pkg* and the whole fla builds fine:
I believe this should be a very simple fix, but I cannot for the life of me get this working, and i've been playing with it all day. Basically I am trying to start working with classes, I want to attach a movieclip to a flash movie, from my class [its for a card game style thing]. But when I attach a movie clip, it does not appear on the screen,. It exists, I can trace its .x position etc.
Code: Select allpackage arrayTrial{ import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Deck extends MovieClip{ private var totalCards = -1; [Code] .....
I'm new to oop and I'm trying to convert a auto scrolling TextField into a class. I guess it has something to do with there not being a stage when the class is instantiated but I'm not sure how to get around it. my code:
I recently got a project in which i have create a whole set of flash animations and then convert them into video to be put on dvd. Now since they are going to be put on dvd's so there is not going to be any user interaction but a continuous playing stream.
I was thinking of putting all the texts into xml files and then calling them in the flash file but if i will have to convert them into video file then will the video file work the same way as the flash file?
