AS3 :: Visible State On Multiple Button Instances

I have two instances of the same button on the stage (with the same instance name) and need to make them not visible.[code]but it only affects one of the two buttons. Can I keep the two instances with the same name and get both to be nov visible, or do I have to change the instance name for one set of the buttons?

I have a set of two buttons on frame 1.I am attempting to use the same set of buttons on frame 5.I copied the buttons with instance names from the first frame and placed them on the fifth frame, but they are not performing the designated actions.The buttons work fine on the first frame, so I know the buttons are functional.

I'm working on a simple rotation of some parts, I'm making mouseover regions for each position that the parts are in and the shape of these regions are completely different in each frame. I was wondering if there was a way to make all these separate regions on separate frames act as one button instead of making 25 separate buttons to do the same thing?

b1 is my MC button Instance name. I want to add several other MC button names to this ActionScript (b2, b3, etc). How can I add the other MC button names without just copying and pasting the whole code with new instances?

I'd like to create a Hangman game, only instead of having the player enter a letter, I'd like to have 26 clickable buttons on the screen. Now, I could make 26 symbols, but that seems ridiculous when I could create a letter_button.as class and just create 26 instances of letter_button, where I can just do something like letter_button.letter_id to get the value. That part's easy. The hard part is, uh. Well. 1- How do I create a button that will accept dynamic text? How do I add these buttons to the stage? Will parent.addChild(new letter_button(letter)) work? Or do I need something else?
Here's how far I've gotten in my solution, tell me if I'm barking up the wrong tree. To begin, I created a button called "Letter_Button". It has a text field on it called "letter_text". It's a MovieClip and it links to Letter_Button.as

I've managed to get a button creating objects onto the stage by doing that, but I can't figure out how to set a maximum.The end goal is to create drag & drop objects by clicking a button, and then being able to drag those objects onto a "recycle bin" to remove one.

I need to add a rollover effect to the disabled state of a Spark button. This way, users can rollover the button and know why the button is disabled.I think I would have to override ButtonBase's getCurrentSkinState. Is there anyway to test if a mouse cursor is over a disabled button?

Ok so here is my XML slideshow Actionscript:

So I figured that the coding of separate scenes would work independently of one another, but I guess I was dead wrong, because when I apply this to a different scene and change the XML path for a different set of images, I get all sorts of conflict errors when I test the entire movie. I have my flash film set up so that each link send the user to a different scene, which plays a unique intro for each, and then the slideshow appears on screen and the viewer can navigate the images.
Is there a work around for this? Or am I going to have to break my flash movie into separate movies? Or should I just add a suffix to all my vars and functions so that they are unique for each scene?

I have a menu with five nav buttons (atcually MovieClips). Each has three frame labels: "on", "stay", and "off". The rollover and rollout animations play flawlessly, but I'm at a loss as to how to give each button a sticky "active" state. I have a multi .swf file project hosted inside a main container (let's call this main.swf) with each "child" .swf being loaded by a Loader object and placed on stage. One of the .swf files contains a game of sorts (let's call this game.swf") with the need to save the state of the game when other .swf files in the site are being loaded and placed on stage.
My question is thus: in implementing Local shared objects, what/where is the location on disk when I go to test the save state of the game? I'm interested for a couple of reasons. One is how I might be able to point a tool such as this: [URL] to look at shared object properties in the data member. Currently this tool points itself to the standard temporaty location on the hard disk. The second is to see why the following doesn't work:
Using the code in the main parent .swf file to clear out the data in the SharedObject instance seems to be getting different results when I use main.swf to do something like this:

I have a series of buttons inside an array. I am trying to get the buttons so that once they are pressed, they remain in the over state. Which is a darker color than the up state. So that people know which button they have pressed. Is there an easy way to do this for buttons?

Is there a way of telling a MC button to have a hit state like a normal button? I have some text popping up away from my MC button that is included in the hit state. When I roll over the main button the text pops up. But also, when I roll over where the text pops up it also triggers the pop up animation.

i'm trying to use if statements but can't get this thing to work i want to check if another button is visible on release of a button to determine what action to be taken.the 'gotoAndPlay("firstscene",1)' is just there as an outcome, will be changed later. anyway this is the code i've got on the button i'm pressing. blobyellow2 is an instance of a button blobyellow is it because it's an instance that it's not working?

The last time i put a problem on to this forum, i also spent a long time pasting my code and trying to describe my problem in detail, i then received an email from someone asking me what my problem was! Please only reply with questions based on what i've put here, if it doesn't make any sense to you then don't worry about it. Is it possible, in flex, to assign multiple states as base for another state? Say I have state "stateA" that adds a button "buttonA" and state "stateB" that adds a button "buttonB". Is it possible to create a state "stateC" that is based on state "stateA" and "stateB"? If not, is there a workaround to accomplish that? Also notice that the button IDs should be "buttonA" and "buttonB" and I can't have several buttons in different states with the same ID ... Here is an example of what I want:

I'm trying to make buttons that involve a character pointing to indicate interaction.When a button is interacted with (mouse over or down) the character's arm points to that particular button. I separated his body, so that it remains constant on the main stage, no matter which button is being interacted with.The problem is, when the user is not mousing over or clicking down on any button, the character has no arms (since only his body remains constant)!How do I resolve this?The only thing I thought of so far is if there's any way to create an up button state that includes the arm (right now I have nothing for mouse up) THAT ENDS when the next button is interacted with. Is that possible? If I put the arm in the up state (in addition to mouse over and down) it stays when the interaction is over, which poses a problem when the user interacts with the next button (the character ends up with double the arms since each button introduces a different set of arms pointing towards that particular button).

i have a movieclip that is instanced on stage everytime i press space. problem being i can't seem to get it to hittest anything other than the first created instance.my spawn mc code is

As you can see, after all the items in the Carousel have loaded, a function called fadeItemIn() is called which displays each of them one by one. I am looking to call a small "swoosh" particle effect flv I made in AfterEffects so that as each item tweens in, it instead looks like it is sparkling in from the left.
The problem I have is that using the code below, the swoosh.flv file tends to freeze before it finishes. In this case the swooshIn() function is called three times because there are three items being loaded into the Carousel.
I am wondering why the FLV freezes when multiple instances of it are loaded through AS3 using NetStream.
