Mar 18, 2012I am using an FLV component dragged to the stage and then bringing in video content. How can I make it visible=false when it has finished playing using the COMPLETE event?

I have a class that loads images with a method that I call from my main source. I was wondering how I go about making sure that the images are loaded before executing more code outside of the class. I know how to do it using Event.COMPLETE in the image class, but I am unsure how to get the main class to wait.

I don't want play, pause, rewind buttons or anything, but what I do need, is to know when the video has reached it's end, so that I can 'gotoAndPlay(something else);'. I found FLVPlayback.complete, but this is just for components (?). is there an equivalent?
Flex :: Swfloader Component Not Firing Complete Event?
Mar 25, 2010enter code hereBeen really frustrating just trying to load a swf from a swfloader in Flex and then accessing it's content. I'm sure once I figure out how to do it once then it'll be fine, but I've gone thorugh a bunch of tutorials and somethings not right. Here's my flex code:and the as code:

Here's the problem: The swf loads, there is no problem there.i see it in my compiled swf. but the complete event doesn't fire. CreationComplete will fire, and then I try, after that, to make a event listener for loading the actual swf, that doesn't fire.I've tried it a variety of different ways with no luck.All I am trying to do is change a text field in the loaded swf.I imagine this might be a problem with the sequence of things loading or something like that, but not sure.

I've already made custom components in action script by extending VBoxes. The custom component just loads an external SWF using SWFLoader.If you look at the output (below) you'll see it's actually loading the SWF only once, but it instantiates it twice!! In that frame is a flash movie that contains the video that I have embedded onto the timeline for the movie. The filesize for this project is massive and I am struggling to work on the file. I want to be able to play the video files with the playback component in each of the frames where the video was.

in the middle of the downloading process I physically disconnect the internet connection. the download stalls - but after aproximately 30 seconds downloadSuccessful is invoked, although only half of the data was downloaded. how can I make sure that the data to be downloaded is complete and correct?

Feb 17, 2011I am loading in binary files with the url class which can be quite large 10mb + and it works fine on my server but another server I am testing on it can sometimes not work. Sometimes it will not load the file and other times it will only load about 20% and it throw a complete event??? Then of course other times it works fine. This server is https maybe that has something to do this it?

When I tried to run this code Flex throws an error. It says that loadDetails is not defined. I suppose that error is because of scope.
Flex :: Right Method For Modifying Text Content In Component Lifecycle?
Aug 25, 2010I have custom components which must adjust their text content based on space constraints. For example a component adds labels until there is no space, and then the content of the last label becomes "(x more)"
I do not have access to size of child controls before adding them. When in updateDisplayList, I make changes to the layout of the component, but for labels, lblInstance.text property fires events, which lead to updateDisplayList being called again. I know that updateDisplayList may be called more than once, but if there is a way to modify text without triggering events, that'd be really useful. For example, setActualSize method in UIComponent allows this kind of modification. Anything similar for text controls? Or do you have best practices for laying out and managing text content, in the context of custom Flex components?
Flash Builder AddChild Method Error In Custom Component

Jun 16, 2011I've always just developed my projects in as3 instead of mxml and I usually just setup my application to run a main actionscript file as my main doc root, sort of like how you do it in flash but in flash builder I do something like this:[code] how can I call place a call to that function hitme() within the call_from_outside() function between the <fx:Script> tags?The reason why I'm doing this is because I have some flash swfs that I load into another swf file and I can access the top level public functions of those flash swfs, however the top level of the flash builder/flex swfs is the main mxml file not my fake as3 class root. Of course I should think there is a way for me to access the as3 class methods of the mxml component but for keeping things with the same structure, I can bypass having to modify my loader scripts.

Access of possibly undefined property orientation(this is my custom property) through a reference with static type ..name of my main class.
Is there no way that can i access custom property of components through the getchildbyname method of the parent container ??

May 15, 2011I'm trying to write a custom fadeTo(component, x, y):void method, which takes an arbitrary Flex Component as an argument and moves it to a given location, but smoothly.
The problem I'm running into is the following.
I want to send the component itself as argument, like this: (using Button as an example only)
fadeTo(myButton, 200, 500);
(this should move myButton smoothly from its current position to the position indicated as parameter)
However, I don't really know what type an arbitrary Flex Component is. How should I handle that?

Oct 1, 2007I am trying to use the scroll pane component and I am having a few teething troubles. I have a scroll pane as a child object of a movie clip which is essentially a 'page', if I display this page it works fine and the scroll pane does too. If I then remove this page from the display list, go to another page and come back by readding it to the display list, I get the following error, even though nothing else has changed:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at fl.containers::ScrollPane/fl.containers:ScrollPane::endDrag()
The scroll pane is still visible and works correctly, but ideally I'd like to stop this error.

Jun 23, 2011I have a component "child" which has a cancel button. Now this component is placed in a state called "newChildComp" I also have another component called "parent". In the parent component, i have a button that dispatches an event. Here is the event code:

so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?
