ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Property Of A Custom Component Through The GetChildByName Method
Jul 23, 2010
I have written a piece of code where I have created a custom class containing some of my custom properties.I have used multiple instances of this custom class in my main class and added it to a container.Now I need to access one of my custom property in the main class through container.getChildByName()."custom property", but I am not able to access my custom property using this.I get an error saying
Access of possibly undefined property orientation(this is my custom property) through a reference with static type ..name of my main class.
Is there no way that can i access custom property of components through the getchildbyname method of the parent container ??
I have a Custom Component that has a couple of Canvas with some background colors assigned to them. Now i have hard coded the colors, i want to move them to an external css file. So i would like to have the css declaration like this :
[Code]...
My question is if i can define custom style names like dividerRightColor and if so, how can i use that value inside my MXML Component? I have seen examples of using them inside Pure AS components.
I am writing a program in OOP and I have a custom subclass which I make a new instance of in the document class. When I do make a new instance of this custom class, I want this (the custom subclass is a movieclip) object to be positioned at the center of the stage. However, when I try
error When your accessing a method or property from a subclass. Here's what I have done so far but no luck in my script.
1. I tried waiting for my attached movieclip to be added to my stage using the setTimeout method but no luck.
var timedProcess:Number = setTimeout(initRevealDropDown, 1000); private function initRevealDropDown():void { clearTimeout(timedProcess); var myInterface:Interface = new Interface(); myInterface.revealDropDown(); }
2. I also tried extending my subclass to interface where my instance method is defined for revealing my dropdown menu, no luck on that one.
Using SDK 4.1 I was able to access custom properties of a custom button component from a custom skin. The project I'm currently working requires SDK 4.5 and I'm unable to to access the properties. Here's an example:
I have been stuck on this problem for a while, and wonder if anyone knows the answer. It is concerning accessing some properties of a custom component. I marked the problem with the keyword [PROBLEM] in the following snippets of code.
I'm programming a kind of "Lights Off" game in Flash Professional (not Flash/Flex Builder)and it would be very nice if I could manage on/off state in a grphically designed Symbol like this[code]...
I need to be able to call a method from a component located under the main application in Flex 4. Can anyone tell me please how to do this without using FlexGlobals please?[code]
I seem to be having a bit of a problem here. I'm generating a load of class instances using the following code:
maxpersons=25; for (var i:Number=1;i<=maxpersons;i++) { var person:Person = new Person;
[Code].....
OK. I then need to run through each of them and check for a collision with an object from the main stage (called redDot), which I pass to a method (called doDamage) within the class. I'm using the following code:
for (i=1;i<=maxpersons;i++) { if (game.getChildByName("person"+i).hitTestObject(red Dot)) { game.getChildByName("person"+i).doDamage(redDot); } }
I keep getting an error saying "1061: Call to a possibly undefined method doDamage through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObject."!
It just won't work. I've tried altering the code to:
game["person"+i].doDamage(redDot);
but I get an unexpected trace output saying "TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties."
I am attempting to make a collapsing list like the ones in google adwords. The compiler is telling me that addChild is not a valid method. Here is my code: package comps { import spark.components.Button; import spark.components.Group; import spark.components.TextArea; public class CollapsibleList extends Group { [Code] ..... I am assuming the compiler isn't lying to me so how do I get those objects (children) to appear?
I have a custom component of which have a advancedDataGrid inside it. I want thiscomponent to be reusable so need is set the datagid selectionMode as a component property.In mxml i want set property like this:
<comp:MyComp itemDataGridSelectionMode="singleCell" .../> Inside MyComp actionScript i have a metatag like this: [Inspectable(enumeration="singleRow, multipleRows, singleCell, multipleCells",
I have a custom Flex 4+ component that I am trying to make and have the skin be aware of changes to a custom property. This property will determine the graphic on the button (and some other visual changes) but the data will change constantly as it will be updated by a timer.
I've looked at untold examples and still seem unable to get the syntax correct or discover how things should be separated. I've looked at overriding commitProperties and the PropertyChangeEvent without success. So I have two questions.
1) How can I get a skin to be notified of a bound property when it changes?
2) If the data for a bound property of the component is an object, will binding work properly if a property of the object changes (or would it be better to pass each property separately)?
All i really want to do is be able to affect multiple movieclips at once with event listeners and greensock tweens.The first snag I hit was that I couldn't create references to movie clips using the old [] Associative array referencing method. Maybe I still can with AS3, but I couldn't get it to work..So I found another technique using getChildByName that returns a reference to a movie clips and allows me to store that reference in a variable.However, the movie clip I'm trying to affect with an event listener resides inside of another movie clips, so to build the address (aka, root.mc1.m2.mc3) to the mc I want to get to is proving to be difficult. (I'm very new to AS3...)I thought the trace(target1_mc.target2_mc.name); at the bottom of the following code would output the name of target2_mc but it doesn't...[code]
I would like to know if it is the same to assign properties to my custom component in its own class, or from the parent document. Here I assign the property bottom in my custom component class:
I have a custom function that doesn't function correctly the first time the function executes it removes a textFiled from the display list without a problem but the second time that it executes it won't remove a diffrent textfield and I don't know why here is the code from the time the textField is added to the diplay list to where its deleted.Btw the function in question is being executed by a custom event listener.....the errors i receive are TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference...Also note that i can remove the textField in question from any function other thatn the one the custom event executes.
I'm trying to write a custom fadeTo(component, x, y):void method, which takes an arbitrary Flex Component as an argument and moves it to a given location, but smoothly.
The problem I'm running into is the following.
I want to send the component itself as argument, like this: (using Button as an example only)
fadeTo(myButton, 200, 500);
(this should move myButton smoothly from its current position to the position indicated as parameter)
However, I don't really know what type an arbitrary Flex Component is. How should I handle that?
Is it possible to add my own custom property to the flash.display.Bitmap using a public static method? I'm trying to write a bitmap utility that does something to a bitmap, and stores a Number property onto it afterwards.
[Code]....
I'm still learning AS3.0 OOP, I think that this can't be done with this method. I think I have to make a new Class that extends 'Bitmap', add the prop there, and then in the Main.as make a new instance of that class, point to the target Bitmap, and run the method in the extended 'Bitmap' class (?).
I have problem with accessing object created by function imported from another package. I have 2 packages DragDrop and UserInterface. In UserInterface I create methods for buttons and later add them in DragDrop . I make it in two different ways: One(this one works):
I am trying to use the scroll pane component and I am having a few teething troubles. I have a scroll pane as a child object of a movie clip which is essentially a 'page', if I display this page it works fine and the scroll pane does too. If I then remove this page from the display list, go to another page and come back by readding it to the display list, I get the following error, even though nothing else has changed:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at fl.containers::ScrollPane/fl.containers:ScrollPane::endDrag()
The scroll pane is still visible and works correctly, but ideally I'd like to stop this error.
two classes, both extend EventDispatcher. Static method in 1st class calls instance method in 2nd event not getting caught. [code]also, since dispatchEvent() is an instance method, is there any way of calling it without first instantiating the class? i expect not.
i am a bit embarassed to ask this, but i do this so much i have to ask. Occasionally, i need to pass/handle custom events on the fly. Rather than creating a whole custom event class, i will just do something like
Code: myObject.dispatchEvent(new Event('thisCustomEvent')); //and then handle it later
package components { public class templateSelection extends VBox { static public var tempSelectionBag:Dictionary;
[Code]....
I want to have a custom class tempSelection with a Dictionary as a public accessable property of that class. If I use this code, the compiler tells me:
1046: Typ wurde nicht gefunden oder war keine Kompilierungszeit- onstante:Dictionary
Which translates to:
Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: Dictionary
I have a custom Flex 4.5 component (to be used in a List) -
Game.mxml (represents a clickable playing table in a card game): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:ItemRenderer [code].......
But I never see the "game clicked: " trace. Does anybody please know why? I'm probably missing something minor, because I can see the "Clicked: 8946" trace.
This is similar to the question asked here. I am dispatching custom event "ShopEvent" but i am getting error "Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@81ecb79 to com.events.ShopEvent"Note: Error is thrown from the parent custom component (3rd code snippet), I have added more details thereThis is my custom event. See the first constant, I copy pasted the event name in custom components.
