I have written a piece of code where I have created a custom class containing some of my custom properties.I have used multiple instances of this custom class in my main class and added it to a container.Now I need to access one of my custom property in the main class through container.getChildByName()."custom property", but I am not able to access my custom property using this.I get an error saying
Access of possibly undefined property orientation(this is my custom property) through a reference with static type ..name of my main class.
Is there no way that can i access custom property of components through the getchildbyname method of the parent container ??

I extend Button to create ImageButton, and I extend ButtonSkin to create ImageButtonSkin. But, when I define hostComponent like this:

I get an error that there is a conflict with hostComponent:ButtonBase inside the ButttonSkinBase. How do I extend a skin AND provide a new hostComponent for it?

In a custom MessageAdapter written for a BlazeDS Java server, is there any way to access HTTPSession and HTTPRequest in a custom MessageAdapter.I'm trying to adapt an existing COMET JSON long-poll messaging system to BlazeDS and we use HTTPRequest parameters to specify message sending/polling paramers (such as a unique ContextID for any given page for a user). Is there any type of HTTPSession information we can retrieve in MessageAdapter receiveMessage()?
If I can't access the HTTPRequest (I'm not sure we can even customize it if we're using the standard Producer, Consumer Actionscript classes anyways), is there a way to uniquely identify a given FlexClient long-poll from another long-poll from that client (e.g. if the same HTTPSession user has a tab open to the same Flex application is there any way to uniquely identify that user?).

I have a custom Flex 4+ component that I am trying to make and have the skin be aware of changes to a custom property. This property will determine the graphic on the button (and some other visual changes) but the data will change constantly as it will be updated by a timer.
I've looked at untold examples and still seem unable to get the syntax correct or discover how things should be separated. I've looked at overriding commitProperties and the PropertyChangeEvent without success. So I have two questions.
1) How can I get a skin to be notified of a bound property when it changes?
2) If the data for a bound property of the component is an object, will binding work properly if a property of the object changes (or would it be better to pass each property separately)?

Anyone missed the old simple method for skinning a simple button?

The problem im having is that, this method of creating a simple button with skin is being phased out : Infact it is no longer supported in flex 4.5 mobile projects.
So the question: Is there a simple way to perform this, with spark buttons (which is suppose to be the new way to go). As simple as possible.
Basically i only need a button with 2 images : down/over & up. And i want to keep the code as simple as possible : The new skinning methods, seems to really adds way too much lines for something that used to be as simple as the example above.
i am a bit embarassed to ask this, but i do this so much i have to ask. Occasionally, i need to pass/handle custom events on the fly. Rather than creating a whole custom event class, i will just do something like

View 1 RepliesLet's say you have a large number (N) of spark buttons in your app. Let's also say that your buttons all have very similar skins (size, various effects, etc) - the only difference being the specific png that they use as their BitmapImage. Do you end up with N skin files, all differing by 1 line? Or is there a smarter way to do this while not adding a lot of code when you create the buttons in MXML (in fact, ideally, none).

For my Halo scroll bar I have the skins set for each element of the scroll bar (arrows, thumb, track, etc.) but I want to have one central class like with the Spark scroll bar.

As far as I know this requires writing a custom skin class or creating a modified version the control class itself (since the control is MX and not Spark). Again, just to clarify, I want to programmatically modify the appearance not simply set styling properties or display an image. I've been able to do this programmatically with other MX controls (e.g. tabs in a tab navigator), but not with the PopUpButton.I think part of the problem may be that the control is actually composed of two separate buttons, so you cannot draw just one rectangular area over the whole control.

I would like the left thumb to look like ( and the right thumb to lok like ) so they appear to encompass the range like (range) instead of |range|. I only know how to set the skin for SliderThumb which will set the skin for both. Does anyone know of a way to set a different skin for each thumb?

I am having some issues when trying to skin the scrollbar on a horizontalList with Degrafa. The scrollbar doesn't show up at all.
