View 1 RepliesI have a custom Flex 4+ component that I am trying to make and have the skin be aware of changes to a custom property. This property will determine the graphic on the button (and some other visual changes) but the data will change constantly as it will be updated by a timer.
I've looked at untold examples and still seem unable to get the syntax correct or discover how things should be separated. I've looked at overriding commitProperties and the PropertyChangeEvent without success. So I have two questions.
1) How can I get a skin to be notified of a bound property when it changes?
2) If the data for a bound property of the component is an object, will binding work properly if a property of the object changes (or would it be better to pass each property separately)?

I have a Custom Component that has a couple of Canvas with some background colors assigned to them. Now i have hard coded the colors, i want to move them to an external css file. So i would like to have the css declaration like this :

Problem 2: I'd like to use that component in a datagrid column so that the user can type a value in the textInput which will in turn update the underlying dataprovider. I know I should use a cellrenderer like I've done with a checkbox column
I am working on a problem since a week soon, but I still couldn't make it work as expected. I have a DataGrid which has HBox with a CheckBox an a Label as itemRenderer (see Code below). When I tap in to the Cell the standard itemEditor pops up and lets you enter the content of the label. Thats the standard behavior. I works fine except for 2 problems:
If I enter to much text, the horizontal srollbar pops up, and the cell is filled with that scrollbar. As you see I tried to set the horizontalScrollPolicy to off, but that doesnt work at all... I tried to do that for all the different elements, but the failure is still existent. When I have filled more than one row, there is an other mistake happening. If I tap on a row, the datagrid selects the one below that row. That's only if one line is already selected. If I tap outside the datagrid and then, tap at any row the itemEditor of the right row will show up... Is there anything now wright in the setup of my set data method?

Can't seem to bind to data from within a custom component. I've tried BindUtilis and {} but can't seem to fathom it out. Here's what I've got:
I have a class DataModel which has been made bindable
Within Mainn.mxml I have two components: DataGrid (used for testing) & CustomComponent (which extends Canvas)
When the data within DataModel.somelist is updated the DataGrid reflects the changes but the CustomComponent doesn't appear to.
I was expecting to see the trace (CustomComponent.dataProvider) fired whenever this._dataModel.itemList is changed. [code]...

The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.

I have written a piece of code where I have created a custom class containing some of my custom properties.I have used multiple instances of this custom class in my main class and added it to a container.Now I need to access one of my custom property in the main class through container.getChildByName()."custom property", but I am not able to access my custom property using this.I get an error saying
Access of possibly undefined property orientation(this is my custom property) through a reference with static type ..name of my main class.
Is there no way that can i access custom property of components through the getchildbyname method of the parent container ??

I want to have a custom class tempSelection with a Dictionary as a public accessable property of that class. If I use this code, the compiler tells me:

In the main file, I would write[code]...
But if I want the component to have that behaviour innately, where do I write it in the mybutton mxml file to have it reference itself?[code]...
I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

The spark panel component for example can be written like this

The motivation here is that I can now create a couple different skin files to change the look and layout of those subgroups. Reading source of the spark panel, there are some calls within the mx_internal namespace such as getMXMLContent() which is a method of the spark group component, but which I have no access to.
Does the description above make sense? How can I create custom 'contentGroups' in my custom Flex4 component that can use nested mxml child components? Should I approach this a different way?

In this case, the 'myButton' component never shows up, but all the elements of the base component do (3 buttons and a datagrid).
I've got a panel, which contains a datagrid (expected to fill up the majority of the realestate fluidly), and a handful of buttons and text fields pinned to the bottom edge of the panel. Its a classic datagrid+search combo. What I'm stuck on, is that while the datagrid will grow into large 'viewport' just fine, after I shrink down to about 600 pixels or so, the height of the datagrid stops shrinking, pushing the bottom-pinned content off-screen. I've played with various settings of minHeight, and while larger settings work (also, curiously, overlaying the bottom-pinned stuff where it belongs, instead of off-screen). the smaller settings are apparently ignored or overwritten for some reason.
It seems as if there must be another setting of some sort that I need to make, but I've been messing with this now for hours, and I'm just hoping one of you knows exactly what the issue is.Here's a few screenshots, first the design preview, second, the browser rendering. You can see how the bottom row of buttons gets cut off, and, if I shrink the window even more, I'll cut off parts of the datagrid as well.
EDIT: here's code to my test app, where all the behavior is what it should be...and the hierarchy exactly mimics whats going on in my test app (copy/pasted directly from) .

I've now come across a few limitations in the datagrid and wonder how I might move forward. The data is logically split into groups and I would like to be able to have subheadings in the grid whenever I move to a new group. I would like to be able to highlight individual cells based on their content relative to other values in the row - ie highlight the cell with the highest value in the row.
