ActionScript 1/2 :: Scripting External Movies To Buttons In Main Movie?

I'm building an entirely flash based website using Flash CS3 and ActionScript 2. I'm using external movies for the various pages, and putting buttons that control these movies in the main movie file. Normally, I'd simply put the script to control the buttons on the main movie file, not the external ones, but because there's more than two different pages and I'm fading each external clip in and out, I'm wondering if possible to put the script, for the buttons on the main movie, on the external movies.

I have a movie in the main timeline that has 3 movies inside with 3 buttons to play them.I Want to force the user to click in the 3 movies before they jump to a diferent frame in the main timeline.

First off, here are the files I'm dealing with:
1. guestbook.php
2. guestbook.txt
3. guestbook.swf
4. main.swf
I have a form on guestbook.swf that sends the data to guestbook.php which then reads and writes to guestbook.txt. Guestbook.swf works fine as a standalone movie - it'll read the text file and then display the data in the dynamic text box named 'guestbook'.
However, when I try to load guestbook.swf into a movie clip named 'content' from main.swf the data is not being shown in my dynamic text box ('guestbook'). I'm pretting sure it has something to due with a targeting issue, but I'm not sure how to do this.
Here is the code that I think is causing the problem (action for submit form in guestbook.swf):

I've tried changing '0' to "_root.content.guestbook" in loadVariablesNum but when I tested it out, as soon as I click on submit it opens up another window with the address guestbook.php. I want the data to load in text box 'guestbook' not in another window.

i used kirupa's [URL].. tutorial to create a movie with buttons that load external movies and works seamlessly.
my problem is that i want to do the same thing on the external movies that are loaded so to be able to load new external movies on top of them. it does not work and i know its because of the _root script that gets messed up when a new movie is loaded. it has to become _parent or smthing but i can't seem to be able to make it work..

I have a problem with buttons and transitions and it is similar to a problem I had a couple of days ago that I posted and that was sorted out. I have two buttons onstage (they're inside a movie clip) inside the movie, on the button one I have the following

I have similar code on button two and this does indeed make the buttons move into place as required. My problem is this, I need to load in external swf files into an empty movie clip on the main stage called container. These External SWF files have transitions and this is where my problem is. If I place a normal button on the stage it works but not if the button is inside a movie clip and has actions applied as above. The code next is what I have believe should also be placed on the button to make swf transition one load in.

I got this tutorial about external movie loading. It works but it seems that their is a little problem with it. How do you keep the button from loading an external movie once it's loaded already?

Let's BUTTON-1 loaded MOVIE-1, now when you click on BUTTON-1 again it will load the movie even if it's loaded. How do you do it like only when another button is clicked will it load the movie for that button.

I want to load six seperate .swf's into the main movie while the main movie loads too. So in simpler words, i want to be able to load all of the swf's the same time i am loading the main swf.

I have a movie which is made up:
Level0= my interface layout with buttons
Level1= the different sections of the site, are loaded into this level (eg. home.swf, aboutus.swf etc.)
Because each of these sections has both an 'in' and 'out' transition, i want to use variables (on the buttons) to control these external movies that are loaded into the main movie (im even starting to confuse myself
basically in a nutshell... can you use buttons which control a movie ,which has been loaded at another layer, using variables....

I am creating a full site in flash. The main movie has an empty movie clip in the middle of the movie to load external movies as the user clicks on the links. Everything has worked good so far as the linking has only gone 1 level deep. However, when I created a new external movie, and had buttons on it for another external page, but yet to open in the main movie, I can't get anything to work. Example.... In the main movie, the user clicks on the archive link, and the external archive movie is loaded into the main movie. Now, on this archive movie, there is a button on it that links to a another movie (say text effects.swf). However, when they click this button for text effects, I can't get it to load into the main movie clip and replace the archive movie that was currenlty there.

i'm trying to create a simple site with three buttons and three different screens rotating (so if one button is clicked the current screen fades out, a new one fades in, then when a second button is clicked the same thing happens and so on).i was using the tutorial found [url]my problem is that i need everything pre-loaded from the begining. i was trying to create a preloader that loads all external files, but it would be a lot easier to have the different screens as movie clips in one file. the problem is, i'm not sure how i should modify the code to place a movie clip in my "container", rather then load an external file...

I have a movie. In it are some buttons and a dynamic text field. When I press the buttons is should load text from a database into the dynamic text field. If I run the movie by itself (ie. not by LoadMovie()-ing it into a different movie) the dynamic text field gets filled with text and all is well and good. However, when I use LoadMovie() to load this very same movie into my main movie, the buttons no longer work; the text field stays empty.

I'm trying to have an external loaded swf unload when other buttons on the main swf are clicked. i finally managed to get an external swf to load with a button using AS3, now I just can't figure out how to get it to go away when the other buttons on the main swf are clicked. Here is my code so far:

Is it possible to control a movie clip in an externally loaded swf from a button in your main swf? I have 4 buttons in my main swf. In the externally loaded swf there are 4 movie clips all with their alha set to 0. What i'm trying to do is when the user clicks button 1, movie clip 1 one the external swf changes its alpha to 1. Then if you press button 2, movie clip 1's alpha returns to 0 and movie clip to 2's alpha changes to 1.
The, buttons need to be in the main swf as there are over 20 externally loaded swf all with 4 movie clips and I cant make those four buttons in each swf and also, the 4 buttons are intergrated into the graphics on the moan swf.

I just don't know how to target it. I'm trying to load an external swf, when releasing a button. The problem is the button is not on the main timeline, but instead nested in a movie clip. I just don't know how to target that button. I tried loading the swf with a button on my main timeline and it worked, so I know the problem is not with the movie clip loader class or the actual swf itself. I actually learned this from a note midway down the page in one of your tutorials..... [URL] how can i target that button that is nested in that movie clip?

I am using a main .swf with buttons on a navigation menu that loads external .swf(s) - these load external videos (I use them as their backgrounds).In the main .FLA I have used the following code (in the first and unique frame):

I can make each button on the menu load each external .swf correctly with videos included - but when I leave that .swf using the navigation buttons to go to another section, the video and audio keep working in the background.

I have created an interactive atlas. I am using my favorite map zooming and panning tools supplied by Senocular which can be found here: [URL] For the panning/zooming/drawBox tool to work the map features must be buried deep within several movieclips. There is one level at which you can put buttons that aren't effected by the code for the panning/zooming etc. Buttons have to go on this level or higher if you want them to work.
The way my atlas is set up - there is a main interface that has these tools plus the menu system. The menu (xml; created by Lost and Sen - brilliant) loads in two external swfs - one is the map itself and the other is a set of "controls" for that particular map (radio buttons, check boxes, text links, etc.).
Okay so here is my problem. I have a couple of external swfs that have buttons on them that do things when you roll over and off them. If I have these buttons sitting on the map then when it gets loaded into the main interface they no longer work. So I am trying to use attachMovie to attach them to an MC within the zooming tools in the main interface at a level they can be active (oh god I hope that makes sense). But it's not working.
I am guessing it's because the code to attach them is being fired before the external can be loaded into the interface. So I'm not really sure where to fire the attachMovie code. Does it go with the external? Does it go with the controls for the external?

- i have 3 separate movie clips (a,b,c)
- my main movie is (a) and when i click a button there, it will go to external movie (b)
- under external movie (b) there's a movie clip that includes my animation and content button
- if i click on the content button on movie (b), external movie (c) will pop up [ it will not replace movie (b) but will just overlap it, it's like a small pop up ]
i did the actionscript and when i'm testing external movie (b), it's working... it's showing/popping up movie (c) but when i tried it on the main movie (a), the movie (c) is not popping on the (b) err, sorry if it's a bit confusing / how i explained it. but hopefully somebody will get the idea. and it won't also return on the main movie (a) when i click on a link from the external movie.

I'm still a rookie in flash and I'm having a little bit of trouble with some actionscript. I've gotten as far as placing the buttons and assign the correct actionscript for them to work. Everything is working fine with the buttons activating the external .swf into a blank movie clip in the main movie. Ony thing is, I would like the external movie assigned to the first button to open once the movie is loaded.
I thought by using the same actionscript i used on the button {and removing the on(release) tag} and placing on the first frame of the main movie would help, but it doesn't.

my problem is that i need to make a reisze, cause the screen resolution for other users. My main and news movie works perfect, but the others movies re-scale everything bigger. The problem of the external loaded movie is: this movie needs the funktion:
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
Stage.align = "TL";
If i dont have this code inside the movie is not going to resize fullscreen into the main movie. Inside this movie im scalling photos and some mc's You can take a look what i mean under: [URL]
If you take a look to the bar where the Number of pictures (30) are you will see that the lower bar and the pictures is not going to scale to fill the full screen if i delete the this code;

I'm building a website that has a main swf with buttons that open external swfs which completely cover the main swf. The external swf has a close button to return to the main swf. My problem is when the external swf is open the buttons hiding underneath on the main swf are still active. I want to add code to the button on the main swf to disable itself while opening the external swf. BUT, I also want to reactivate them when I close the external swf. Is there code I can place on the close button of the external swf that will communicate to the main swf to reactivate its buttons? It seems so simple but this is the trickiest part for me.

I have a website where I have designed a scrolling thumbnail panel with nested buttons that are coded to load external swfs into a holder on the page.I am guessing that the problem must stem from the original file with the panel being 3 swfs deep in the final site. The panel and the buttons work fine when they are 1 or 2 swfs deep but I can't get them to work from the main navigation page. I have played with the _parent function and I can't seem to get it to work. I have also put the buttons on the main nav pages library as I read that that was necessary but again it didn't get it to work. Here is my code below.

I have 12 movie clip buttons on the main page (3 rows of 4 buttons).When a button is pressed,it gives the answer to a question which remains visible.On this answer screen, there is another button to click for further information. I pointed to this button to go to another frame within the same movieclip (containing the further information).However, this "further information" shows up UNDERNEATH the 12 buttons, and you can't read it.

I am loading swfs into a movie clip. However, the contact button is not a loaded swf any longer. It's in the main flash page. This is what I want to do. All the buttons load the external swfs except when I click on the contact button that is in the main flash page. I need to get the other buttons to load after I click the contact flash button. Below is the code for the contact button and the one under for one of the other buttons.

i have a problem with the setInterval and clear Interval function with in a movieclip i created. the interval seems to still be running even though it is with in a movieclip and not on the main time line. how do i stop it from affecting the buttons on the main time line. i tried applying the clearInterval function to the button on the main time line but still no change.

I'm building a website, in which the 'Gallery Page' has a link to an external swf file, which is a scrolling clip of thumbnails.
What I want to do, is create each thumbnail into a button, which will then play a Movie Clip from a frame located in the Main swf file. (So basically, each thumbnail button is a small photo, will play that photo in a large scale as a movie)
eg.
thumbnail1_btn needs to go to main swf and play movieclip1.mc, frame 1
thumbnail2_btn nends to go to main swf and play movieclip1.mc, frame 2
