ActionScript 2.0 :: Caching Of Swf Files Loaded Into Main Movie?
Apr 28, 2005
In my main movie I am loading external swf files. The proplem is that these files are cached so when they load the updates aren't shown. I've read some stuff about loading vars or xml with a random function to prevent it from caching, can that work with swf files? Maybe something like:
I've placed the meta tags in the main html to stop that from caching; which doesn't really work. Could the same be applied in the html? Or maybe a php function when loading the main flash movie?
The files that are loaded are only a few kb so I'm not worried about the user having to load the files everytime.

I'm having trouble with my text and xml files seeming to be cached. They are altered by a php script called from flash, and this overwrites the text files correctly, but when they are reloaded into flash (eg. when the page is refreshed) the old data is still being used.I was reading this article and was interested in this line:
Code: input_xml.load(xml_file + "?uniq=" + new Date().getTime());
could someone please explain why this would work, and whether this would prevent the problem that I'm having. I'm presuming that this unique number is never used in any way, it just forces the new file to be loaded, but I'm just a bit unsure why.
When not cacheing an HTML page, any movies or anything you load INTO that flash file through loadMovie or loadVars still gets cached... I use senoculars script to prevent this...

and 2) Yes you can stop the cacheing of your page...

Use this information wisely my friend
i came across this post by lostinbeta to stop cacheing, but the link for the one to stop cacheing files loaded through loadMovie and loadVars doesn't work. know how to get to it, or what the as was?
I am new flash developer, and inherited a project which has 4 fla project files. When it runs inside a browser, it appears "window" which occupies whole browser. This project is write in Flash CS3. I have few questions:
1). When loading main swf file, 3 other swf files are also loaded. These swf files are communicating with each other through message. When debug the mail swf with CS3, I can set breakpoint and the program can stop only at limited AS files. My questions is how to debug other AS files in other swf file?
2) I used CS5. It seems that I can stop at more AS files, which does not belong to main swf file. Why?
My questions is should I use CS5, which might makes debugging easier? Is it right direction to go to debug multiple swf? (For CS5, I need to fix some code in order to make the program fully working as CS3)
3) What's best tool to use for such project since CS3 is very old. Should I use Flash builder, Flex. Amethyst?
loadMovie(_root.section, _root.content);how would i work in a preloader bar?? add one to the file that is loaded into the main movie or on my main movie that is loading the file?
my problem is that i need to make a reisze, cause the screen resolution for other users. My main and news movie works perfect, but the others movies re-scale everything bigger. The problem of the external loaded movie is: this movie needs the funktion:
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale"; Stage.align = "TL";
If i dont have this code inside the movie is not going to resize fullscreen into the main movie. Inside this movie im scalling photos and some mc's You can take a look what i mean under: [URL]
If you take a look to the bar where the Number of pictures (30) are you will see that the lower bar and the pictures is not going to scale to fill the full screen if i delete the this code;
Is there way force the browser to retain previously viewed FLV files? I've noticed using the normal netstream set-up that even if you've fully loaded and viewed a video it will have to load it again from scratch each time you come back to it. Shouldn't the file be in the user's cache?
Im have 5 swf files that I want to play one after another on my home page.
I would like to have the first movie load and play and while that is going on have the others downloading in the background so they are ready to start when the first movie finishes.
After the 5th and last movie has played I would like it then to return to the first movie and just loop this process continually.
I have attached what I have at the moment which is a file called demand.fla that uses buttons to load in demand001, demand002, deamd003 etc.
Ideally i would like demand to load in each slide automatically and then have flashmove onto the next one after 5 seconds or so.
I have the following to load swf files in my main movie. The first swf files that loads has a movie FLV file in it. When I unload that swf file, with the below, the swf seems to get removed, but the audio of that flv keeps playing. What do I have to do, to completely remove that swf file.
private function loadNewSection(e:ProjectEvent):void { while ( content_mc.loaderClip.numChildren > 0 ) { content_mc.loaderClip.removeChildAt(0);
I've created a Flex application and the size of the swf file is ~900KB. My trouble is that the files are not getting cached. When I launch the application for the second time, the swf file is fetched again from the server. I'm including the swf file in a jsp, and I'm not modifying any HTTP Caching Headers. I assumed that the swf files will be cached automatically. Isn't it so? How do I forcefully cache the file? Do I need to provide anything in the MXML code or just a response.setHeader("Cache-Control","max-age=100"); is enough? Can anything be done from the flex side itself?
Why on earth doesn't Safari on Windows use cached files...
When the movie's been downloaded and cached for IE & FF, on a refresh, Safari insist on re-downloading a fresh file from the server, again & again...
If it does, where the hell in Settings can you set it so that it'll favor cached files if they exist, rather than downloading a fresh one from the server...
How to prevent caching of swf files?Have somebody any link on tutorial.I read this page hurl...but | know is it possibilitity to generate somehow every time a new SWF name.
I am trying to load external swf files in a main movie.I have created 3 different movies. Main movie is named "Container". Another 2 movies are named "movie1.swf" and "movie2.swf".Main movie "Container" is having some navigation buttons and template sort of thing in it. On the lowest layer in main movie I have created an empty movie clip in which I am trying to load "movie1.swf".Now problem is when I load "movie1.swf" instead of loading the external movie in target mc, it clears all the contents in main movie.
I am trying to write a client side app that would download a number of mp3 files, then cache them to the harddrive. I can download the mp3 files using URLLoader and access the raw mp3 data via URLLoader.data. But how do I save them to disk without the benefits of AIR only classes
on (release) { _parent._parent.buttonClick("movie name", _parent._name); }
For the above script, am trying to load a swf file to load into an main movie file. This is for a flash website am working on, and i wanted to know if the above .Since having all the pages (6 pages) in one flash file, it would take long time to load, so am planning to have each of the 6 pages in an separate swf file and load these into main swf file, on click of a button, Also there needs to be a loading bar for each page.
My site consists of a main swf file ('home.swf') which then has other swfs loaded into it via an empty movie clip.I have created one such swf. file (news.swf) which features 2 simple scrolling text buttons (one to move text down, and the other to move it up).http:[url].....
Everything works fine when I preview the news.swf on its own, but when I preview the home.swf and view the news.swf loaded into it, the button which should move the text up doesn't work.I think it's something to do with using the term _root. but i don't know what to replace it with.This is the script I have on the button that doesn't work:
//Events during mouse click on(press) { _root.controller.gotoAndPlay (2);[code]........
Is it just a case of changing the _root. term, and if so what should I change it to, or is it trickier than that.
The problem is class files being cached in external swfs when they are loaded into another swf. (as2-cs3). In a nutshell, we've got a clip on the stage that is linked to a class. You can make changes to the class, pub the swf and everything works fine. When we then load that swf into our application swf, the changes are all lost, and it "reverts back" to a previous version of the class.
I am diving in to learn AS3 and converting my site over to AS3. The majority of my code is for my navigation in my main movie that loads external swf files. Here is what I have and I don't know where to start to convert it. I know I need to do this in steps. So the audio is not important now or my other swf files.
I have created a main swf file which holds a movie container which other swf's load into. One of the sections has a form in it. When I preview this section on its own the form works, but when I preview through the main swf file (or online) the text fields cannot be typed into. How can I fix this? Files can be downloaded from;[url]....
i am using flash cs3,i have a main movie that load many swf using a document class..i need to pass "userid" variable from the main movie to loaded swf so they can change their content dynamically.
abc.swf starts playing - how do I get it to tell the main movie that it reached the end of its timeline and finished playing? Added bonus: the loaded swf is AS1 and the main movie is AS3. I'm not sure if I could convert the loaded swf to AS3.
I cannot align the loaded swf exactly on top of the main movie? To see it online check here.Note only the about button works for now...also note how the top menu moves when about button is clicked! why is that?? Follow this link to download the FLAs and the other image folders I am using...
I have three FLV movie files that are places on diffrent frames on the main time line. When the viewer clicks on diffrent buttons I send them to that specific frame by go to and stop action and the flv start playing, but if they click out of that frame by pressing another button the video still plays on the background and they can hear the audio.this doesn't hap stop the video from playing by pressing thepen if they stop button on the flv player.
How do I prevent Flash from caching loaded images?In my app a user make a change to an image and saves it back to the server as the same name. Flash then reloads the section and the new image should be reflected. However, it is not. The image looks fine on the server and is updated on the server...
I bought some flash templates and have a big problem. When using some flash movie with dynamic text when I run it standalone - its working 100%. If loaded into main movie then static text,graphic, actionscript is working fine but all dynamic text is not visible. Something in main movie is making dynamic text invisible. Please guys some help will be great - I spend already 3 months trying to figure out problem but with no luck.
clientarea.fla is the main movie client area, praguese are XML config files for main movie -rename from txt to xml movieloader - is loader which have to be used to load swf to main movie
