There are two columns, the left is for workplace responsibility the right side is for personal responsibility. I've made the actionscript so that I can drop multiple targets into any of the correct spaces they're supposed to go to and I want the text to appear in that particular spot.
At the moment I have dynamic text, and when the text/mc is dropped into the box I have the code (textOne.text=event.target.name) - and so the instance name shows, but since you cant have whitespace in the instance names its not formatted the way I want it.

I *know* this is simple. I've read every thread on this board pertaining to this (including senocular's Best Of thread), done everything there and this still doesn't work and I can't see why.
I feel like an idiot even asking, because I've seen the examples and lengthy tutorials.
All I want to do, is change the color of a dynamic text field when you press a button. But I want the name of the field to be a variable.
Now, this is what's there:
1. the variable "_root.expinttype1" is equal to "branch" and is set elsewhere.
1a. There is an existing dynamic field called "branch" on screen.
2. On the button release I set the format:

Why? I set a dummy variable txt = _root.expinttype1; and even threw it into a text field to verify the data, and it shows "branch", so why doesn't this work?

View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.
Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? What I'm trying to do is to write something in an input field and then it should show up in a dinamic field. I can make this happen, but the problem is that the dinamic field shows its new text in the same format as the Input field. For example, the input text is written in TimesNewRoman and the dinamic text is in Arial, but when the dinamic text shows the input, the text is still in TimesNewRoman when I want it to be in Arial.

When a user enters a number into the page count it makes a calculation and places the outcome into the dynamic textfield. This textfield is for the individual price.All of this so far works. What I want to do now is create another dynamic textfield for the total. So the individual price is multiplied by the quantity and this result is put in the new dynamic text field. I have the code for that working but here is where it gets tricky (for me anyway).The total price is to start off invisible. When I roll over the individual price the total price is to appear (For a test lets just say when I roll over an area the total price appears).To stop cursor flickering this should be done inside a movieclip. i'm creating a flash news scroller that accesses an external file to read news headlines.I've created the main system which works roughly as follows.The main movie clip reads the external headlines & related article texts from a file (using loadvariables) and puts them into an array.I loop over the array creating several new instances of a movie clip (lets call it "news_piece"), placing one above the other. "News_piece" contains 2 text fields called "Headline" and "Article", so i change the contents of these fields for each instance of the movie, retrieving the contents from the array.The outer movie then scrolls the lot.
Now comes the difficult bit...stay with me... sometimes the headlines can be 1, 2 or 3 lines in length. So, if I want the article text to start directly below the headline, I guess I'll have to move the lower Text field ("Article") a bit higher/lower in that particular instance of the "News_piece" movie.So, to summarize, I wanna move the co-ordinates of a text field in an instance of a movie clip
I have a problem with a button.It has 4 keyframe and a text field with the same instance name "myText".I use this button in a MC, and its instance name is "myBtn".I'm trying to change myText with actionscript in the MC without any results.Debugging it I find a text field insiede this button named "instance6", so i think there is some problem with instance name.

I'm trying to input a dynamic text field into many dynamic movies. I use a for loop to successfully create 18 movies. I can't seem to get the text to be input dynamically however.
