I am looking for a solution to complete within AS2 that allows a user to hover over a column header within a datagrid and a tooltip would pop-up.I'm completeing a sports statistics sheet within Flash and I am obviously putting numbers in each column, else I would use the full column header but its just a number so I don't want to increase the width of the columns just for that.If anyone knows of a way to make each individual column header able to pop up a tooltip plz post or recommend something. To give an example if it isnt obvious of what I'm trying to doLets say my Table looks like soGP | G | A | +/- | %

I want to display the grid control in Flex ( version 3 . with a marker/(or)icon (which acts like a button) in each colum header of the grid.2. on click of the button i want o popup a textaread to capture some comments.3. on close of the popup i wan to then change th markericon in a way highliting it which would indicate that some comments(footnotes) are present for this column. I am very new to flex looking at the data grid control at this point. I understand that the standard features can be easily plugged in by msxml. I use a flex mx:datagrid. I can set the headerBackgroundSkin to specify a skin or a picture to be displayed in all datagrid column's headers and it works just fine !
The problem is I can't find any way to specify a custom skin for the currently sorted column (doesn't matter if the sort is asc or desc, this is just to show the user which column is currently sorted).
I also tried to create a custom headerRenderer for each column but it is quite complicated and doesn't work very well.
I have been looking for the solution for a while but I can't find a good approach to do it. It sounds like a very basic need for me...incredible it is so complicated to achieve with Flex !!

I have a Flex 4, mx:DataGrid with the following (pertinent) properties set:
width="100%"horizontalScrollPolicy="off"
I have the minWidth set on all of the DataGridColumns and the width set on one of them. If I simply maximize/minimize the display (in browser or stand-alone flash player) of the application, the columns scale up and down nicely. But if you grab the edge of the application and drag it to make it bigger, only one column grows really big. When you drag the size down again, the one column remains big, but all of the other columns get squished way down.

On my flex (flash builder 4) DataGrid - DataGridColumn , I have set a custom itemRenderer
itemRenderer="myComponents.EncounterDGItemRenderer".
My renderer is a Label
public class EncounterDGItemRenderer extends Label
I found that my tooltips (datatips) stopped working once I started using this custom renderer. I also found that I can set the tooltip on the label in the
override protected function updateDisplayList
by setting:
toolTip=data['addedDate'];
This works find, however the problem is I need to choose a different data field based on the column. I was hoping for something similar to how a DataGridColumn labelFunction works - where I have access to "column.headerText" or "column.dataField". However I only have access to the underlying data object, not the name of what is being displayed (unless I am missing something).
Is there a way in a data grid item renderer to know what the column header text is, or do you have a different approach?

I have a datagrid with some custom renderrers and I'm just curious how I should approach the ability to freeze and always show the left 3 most columns at all times when scrolling left/right.
I thought that I might have to resort to 2 datagrids, side-by-side, the first showing the 3 columns that I want at all times, and the ability to scroll the rest. Only issue then I guess is linking the row selection to select that row in both and to tie the column sorts together...
Or would it be better to try and take columns 4+ and shrink their width to 0 as a person scrolls right, and then increase it back to the max width as they scroll left? Though that would cause funny issues to happen as the content of the datagrid would get smaller and smaller until you were 100% to the right and the scrollbar would disappear.

I am trying to adapt Ruben Sweringa's Flex-based interactive mindmap [URL] and I've got most of it sussed out. I'm just having a little difficulty with the tooltips and I was hoping someone/some people might be willing to help me out or offer some guidance on these three things:
1) How and where do I set hideDelay to Infinity so the tooltips don't disappear? I think that because Ruben's model uses FXCToolTip and FXCHTMLToolTip to extend ToolTip and ToolTipManager, if I try to modify ToolTipManager.hideDelay in the mxml, the value is ignored.
2) Is there a way to enable HTML formatting in the tool tips? FXCHTMLToolTip looks like it's supposed to read this code, but whenever I add such coding, Flex says "Error: XML is invalid" and the whole mindmap fails.

I'm trying to prevent a custom tooltip from disappearing. I've tried three runs at this, borrowing from the usual suspects: Peter Dehann, MonkeyPatch and others. As you can see from the code below I'd like to stay within the tool tip paradigm and not go to popups.

How do you remove the header row from a Spark DataGrid? MX DataGrid had the attribute "showHeaders" but this doesn't seem to be present in the Spark DataGrid.
This seems like it should be a very easy task, so either I'm extremely dense or just missing something? Do I have to create a custom skin for my DataGrid and remove the header parts? That seems like overkill or is it the Flex / Spark way?

Whenever I add paddingRight to a column in the flex grid, it adds the padding to the header as well.Is anyone familiar with how I can add paddingRight just to the column and not to the header? Below is the column code where I was specifying the padding.

Is it possible to set a tooltip just on the header of a spark datagrid. I do not want any tooltips on the data - just the header. I have played with mouse over and this sort of looks like it might work. This seems a bit of a hack to me though.

I'm having some issues aligning the header text of a datagrid. I'm using an embed font for the header text, and when applying the css, the header text behaves as if I'd set the text vertical align to top. I'm trying to vertically center the text, but haven't found a way to make it work.
