Dec 1, 2009I've got a document reader application that I'm trying to add a print option to, but I'm having real difficulties with PrintJobs.On my first attempt, I prepared all my pages in advance, then called PrintJob.start, followed by PrintJob.addPage for each page, then PrintJob. send to finish.On longer documents, however, this was falling foul of the script execution time limits.I could get 90-100 pages spooled before the runtime threw an exception and cut the print run short.On my second attempt, I prepared all my pages in advance again, then called PrintJob.start.I then tried using an event handler to call addPage for each page (first using the frame_enter event, then using a timer). However, calling PrintJob.addPage from an event handler like this caused an exception to be thrown.I've been tearing my hair out all afternoon trying to find a solution to this -- does anybody have any idea how I can get long PrintJobs to work?

Oct 18, 2009My Flex 3 app prints pages just fine from browsers on Windows using FlexPrintJob (not the browser print function). However, on OSX, the left and top margins show up larger and the page gets pushed off the right and bottom. Basically, the scaling is screwed up, and I can't see any way to adjust the margins in code.Has anyone seen this discrepancy in Flex printing between Windows and OSX? Are there any known workarounds? I've searched all over and I can't find any good info on this (other than 12 unresolved printing bugs in the Adobe Jira DB)
PDF Generation is one route and while its a valid solution for some folks, I need to print directly. I'd like to see stuff like using regular Flash PrintJob, monkeypatches to FlexPrintJob, or just ways I can format my DisplayObjects before sending them to FlexPrintJob. None of the scaling options in FlexPrintJob work. My Flex Component is at 1.0 scale. I'm not sure what else I can do except for mess around with regular PrintJob.

This is not working to place the mc correctly on the page. This is all the Adobe help provides. Also Googled and tried different variations but no success.

Oct 7, 2009I am trying using ExternalInterface to call JavaScripts document.referrer to get the referring page for a swf when it is linked directly. This is working fine in FF but is returning null when the browser is IE. Every article I find about this talks about an defining an ID in the embed and object tags which of course dont exist when the swf isn't loaded in a html document. I found a page that stated that I needed to add the Security.allowDomain() statement to grant the permission but its still returning null.

Apr 15, 2008I am using this function for a button in my Flash menu that I want to print my entire HTML page.

After I pop in the code, I go to test the page on my Mac locally and I get this error.
"Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network: I:......main.swf
is trying to communicate with the internet enabled location:
I:.....page.html To let the application communicate click setting. You must restart the application after changing your setting."
And on a Windows machine, nothing even happens.
Obviously I think its not working because I am testing it locally, because the minute I upload it to my server, it works. The only problem is, I need it to work locally because it is going to be viewed from a CD not through the net.
Is there another way for my Flash Button to print the entire HTML page?

Dec 10, 2011need to print html generated invoices from a distant server, using the print class, event if bitmap is set as false, will render the invoice a bitmap. at least the text is blurry and not usable. alivepdf could be a solution but i need to print straight, not save the pdf locally. i don't even understand, giving the fact this print class sucks badly, flex won't allow a simple javascript print function from the remote page.

Sep 13, 2010I'm trying to print an MC that is on screen with a dynamic text field in the MC - its printing just fine but the placement of one of the elements is off. Basically I have a dynamic text field centered on the stage, however when I print it, the text field moves to the very right on the printed page, while the rest of the contents of the MC stay centered. To clarify on the printed page I basically have this nice page with centered text, but the dynamic textfield is moved all the way to the right of the page.

Jun 19, 2007I have a sprite that has a scrollbar that uses the scrollrect feature. The sprite has several bitmaps and textfields. When I print the outer sprite (The one with the scrollrect) all of the textfields outside the scrollrect are cut after the first line. In case anyone else is having problems with printing sprites with scrollrects using the bitmap printing option fixes and prints most of the stuff in the sprite. Excluding all textfields outside of the scrollrect. This however can be fixed partially by embedding your fonts.
So now the only problem left is printing multiline textfields that are outside the scrollrect. P.S. Imho the scrollrect should have nothing to do with the printed area of the sprite because the printJob.addPage has a printarea parameter.
IDE :: Preload One Html Page / Once It's Loaded Into Cache Automatically Jump To Page With Big Swf?
Dec 29, 2009I have a flash header for an html site that is about a megabyte and obviously needs a preloader. Unfortunately it won't work to have the preloader loading at the top while the rest of the html below is visible — it will end up looking like the top navigation is cut off, as the top 10 pixels of the nav bar is actually in the swf header (fully loaded it will look contiguous)Is there a way to preload it in one html page and then once it's loaded into the cache automatically jump to the page with the big swf?

Jul 1, 2010I have a site where all the pages have a common SWF embedded at the top (Nav and banner), but the rest of the page is HTML.Everything is working fine, but I'm finding the 'independence' between the HTML and Flash is making for some sloppy transitions from page to page.I was expecting the SWF to be delayed, at least for the first page visit(and I have a preload routine inside the swf to make it's delay and appearance a bit more visually pleasant), but was surprised to sometimes find the SWF appearing and playing while the HTML content was delayed (resulting in a SWF floating in black).What I'm wondering is if there's a way I can do some sort of preload on my index page.BUT, not the standard one that I'm sure everyone would suggest (like the javascript image 'preload', or the newer 'css visibility' preload trick). The problem with the standard one is that it doesn't check to see if everything is loaded.What I'm after is a routine on my index page that invisibly loads some of the elements from my inner pages (common swf, maybe some of the images) and WAITS until it's done before moving to the inner pages (displaying the company logo and/or a load status in the meantime).Many people would suggest a preloader inside the common SWF on my inner pages (which I have), but the problem with that on its own is that it doesn't stop the HTML from displaying.
I'm trying to figure out a way to do a preloader (like those in a SWF, which loops until everything is loaded) that controls both the SWF AND the HTML.Recently, I found that you can use one swf to preload another, which would be a potential solution, as I could make an SWF on the index page whose sole purpose is to load (invisibly) the common SWF, displaying the load status and then loading an inner html page once it's done.Problem is, I have bee having trouble finding the coding for that, as most searches for preloaders end up being about standard preloaders, where it's monitoring the same SWF that the code is on, as opposed to controlling a second, external SWF.Can someone point me to or provide me with the proper coding/procedure for a preloader that controlls a second external swf or give me a better solution?

Sep 11, 2010I need to allow users to preview audio files for purchasing. I have CF pages that return records form a SQL database. Each record contains the same swf file however, each swf file points to a different mp3 for previews of different audio examples. So far, everything is working fine. My problem is that I need to be able to stop the sound from one swf when I click to play a second swf .The only solutions I see in Flash forums deal with loaded swf files. These are not loaded files they are separate files within a page. Feb 25, 2010when you go to the home.html page an animation will play from start and then stop at the end of it. However, for all other pages i.e contact.html aboutus.html we need the animation to skip to the end straight away and not to play the whole animation through. I was thinking this would be controlled by a variable or some kind of external text file ect. Basically in the first frame the actionscript needs to basically say
