I was following this nice tutorial on how to create a dock-like menu in Flash.I managed to add my own icons and to adapt height and length etc., but I did not manage to remove the grey bar in the back.And more important, to add a link to one of the items in the dock. I tried to make the icon a button, but that didn't really work.

View 8 RepliesI have created a movie in CS3 which is basically a series of images that scroll from right to left across the screen. Each image also has a url assigned to it so that clicking on that image takes you to another (external) website. It's all working beautifully.All I want to be able to do now is to create a mouseover effect, whereby when your cursor is over the scrolling image, that image only enlarges slightly - a bit like the Apple dock effect. Then, if the cursor moves to the second image, the first image reduces back to its original size and the second one enlarges.

View 14 RepliesI am trying to create a menu, similar to a dock menu but that just magnifies the images when rolled over (rather than overly crazy carosels or massively zooming docks. and secondly...the dock menu would link to separate flvs that are on a streaming server. I've never worked with one before and wonder how to connect them to my flash. I'm trying to create an flv player, sorry, shouldve said earlier... but one that only plays 6 vids (linked to by the magnifying dock menu).

I am am loading external SWF files into main file from XML created menu.I want to make TRANSITIONS between loaded files, but this Kiripa tutorial does not work for me since I can not give each button sepparate code. All buttons come from xml.
At the moment If I do all by tutorial all menu buttons start to load same link which and transition works, but yeah I need menu to understand that it must load new swf not that same.I know it is possible, but I do not know how it is made, so if anyone could help me I would be very happy!

I am looking at creating a menu with three movieclip buttons on a main menu. I want to keep these buttons on the top of the screen at all times. I am opening different swf's and I want to make sure that the buttons are still showing. I know there is something with changing or swapping the depth of the movie clip when it loads the new swf's in, but I have not found anything that is seeming to work.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to generate a list of links via xml using as3. I have created a movie linkHolder and a text field called linkText.
I then add link text to linkHolder and add linkHolder to the stage. I have an eventListener attached to linkHOlder which calls a function and when I roll over the links it activates the function correctly.
How do I give a unique id or reference to each button so that I can pull up the correct link associated with it?

I have been building this website and have run into a snag. The navigation for the site does not work well. The user seems to have to click alot of buttons just to get the information they want, so here is the site url...
First, I am using a flash navigation on the left side to control content in an Iframe.
Secondly, I have links in the Iframe that I would like to control the flash navigation.
For instance, on the portfolio page. When a user clicks on a project, I would like the menu to expand to the location of where the link in the menu is: example: in the profolio page, click on campden lakes home and the menu on the left expands project; over 4000 sq ft; So, having said that; do i have the site setup weird? Is there an other navigation menu that I can use.I think this is a flash actionscript, but i am not sure, sorry if If this questions should be in an other category. I hope someone can show me the errors of my ways.
I have to make a list every document linked in a multiple .fla files. I can pull them up doing a find for .pdf but I can't figure out how to copy the links from the results field. Each file links to 1000+ pdfs, so i'd like to avoid doing this one at a time. Is there a way to export the results of the find function to a .xml or .txt file?

and i was just wondering what kind of function would I need to make each one of the images clickable AND go to separate url's. I figured out that I would NEED a function and a separate array that would link up the URL's to the Images but I don't know how to really make the images clickable in the first place.
I was wondering what the best practice was for creating text links in flash? I know how to create a button of course, give it an up, over and hit state. What I normally do is copy the text into each frame, and change the colour for each so that the user can tell when they're hovering and hitting the button. For the hit status, I draw a square for the hit.
But this can be time consuming if you have a lot of text links throughout your site. Especially if you want to change the text colour of your over and hit frames.
So I looked into making a better solution using Actionscript, which was having a function for each of the status, where you change the colour of the button.
I was wondering if anyone else had any other thoughts or wanted to share how they do their text links?

View 1 Repliesi have problem to do something in flash MX 2004 so i have question to this fine community1. there are some CD's with some subdirectories [ names of subdirectories are different on every CD ]2. on these CD's are autorun.exe [ created with SWF Studio ] which contains swf ,and this swf is used to show content of main folder 3. in every subdirectory there is the same swf file and it is showing content of the subdirectory.is there posibility to make a simple menu [ in the swf file from 2nd point ] which will becontainig links to swf files in subdirectories ,but it should dynamically get subdirectories names and transform them into menu linksbeneath is example structure of CD.

I've been working on an imitation of the SamataMason website sub navigation. Right now I have a top level menu that is created from an array, and a sub menu display that is created from XML. If you click on any of the top 4 or so items in the menu you'll see a list of links displayed below. The problem at this point is that the line of code that controls which XML nodes get displayed causes the URL links to break.
Line 37 of the "XML functions" layer contains the code that breaks the URL links:Code:if (item.attributes.industry == industry) {If you comment out the line (and it's closing brace on Line 54) you can click on any of the top 4 menu items and it will display a list in which the URL links work. But you're not seeing the appropriate list for each menu item.Anyone know how to rewrite this line so that it doesn't interfere with the other code? I'm baffled as to why "URL" breaks but the "client" nodes still work.
I have a drop down menu on my website and it works perfectly fine except for some of the links. i don't have the other pages made yet but i still have the links to the pages in the buttons in my drop down menu. For some reason when i click on the buttons in the drop down menu, they don't go to the pages, they don't do anything. But when i click on the buttons in the sub drop down menu in side the main drop down, they work
the code for each button is the on(release) get url code, is their a different code i can use that will make these buttons work? here is the link to the website so you can see what I mean. the paralegal services button is the one with the drop down.

Using AS3, how can I attach links to outbound websites? I have a button graphic dragged onto the timeline. It is meant to function much like a "hot spot". So, I would like to attach the script to the button so that it will link to another website when clicked upon. But where do I add the script in AS3, and what is that script to be? ~ For example, do I need to go into edit mode where I see the 4 states, or can I simply attach it to the main timeline? - I'm looking to do whatever's the simplest!
Also, the button is called myButton in my library...can I use that same button for everywhere I want to add an outbound link to different websites, or am I going to have to change the name for every different link? For example, myButton02, myButton03? I'm hoping to use the same graphic button, and hoping the timeline will understand and follow the script instead of being confused and all links wind up going to the same site.

I've been given a bunch of .swf (about 100) that I need to link together. Rather than doing it manually, old-school style, I decided to write a document class that will sort the content, animate transitions and create links automatically. The basic idea is that all content on the stage conforms to a naming convention whereby all buttons are prefixed with "btn_" + nameofswf.swf - the code recognises this and adds event listeners. The background image is simply called "background". I might add some further functionality later for rollovers, depending on what I need. As a frame script, the code works perfectly - it's when I converted into a class the fun begins.
