ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating A Menu With Three Movieclip Buttons On A Main Menu?
Nov 12, 2008
I am looking at creating a menu with three movieclip buttons on a main menu. I want to keep these buttons on the top of the screen at all times. I am opening different swf's and I want to make sure that the buttons are still showing. I know there is something with changing or swapping the depth of the movie clip when it loads the new swf's in, but I have not found anything that is seeming to work.
I'm creating a drop down menu and when I addEventListeners to check the clicks on the invisible buttons on frame 19 of the "menu" movieclip, it gives me an error. T really hate doing rollover with actionscripts. The download link for the fla can be found in below. Sorry for posting an external download link as the file is 7mb+! [URL]
I'm creating a menu bar that is a movieclip and inside the movieclip consists of the buttons.Now the menu bar is twice as WIDE as what is visible on the stage.The only part you can see is the text 'menu' on a bar.Then when the mouse hits the bar, it flies across the screen to the otherside of the bar where the menu buttons are.Now the menu bar does its animation over 20 frames - the last frame being the frame where the menu buttons are now visible.
I have created an XML driven Drop Down menu using the kirupa tut by Senocular found here. I am trying to figure out how to get the submenus to push the rest of the main menu down on rollover kind of like this. Not sure where to start to get the AS to get the button created fromt he XML nodes to move down.I haven't changed the code found int he tut too much and the menu works fine except that the rollovers just go over the main menu.
I'm working on a web menu, that has sub menus. I'm currently trying to get the sub menu to jump back to the main menu if the mouse is no longer inside the submenu zone.
It works if I move the mouse quickly to another part of the Flash area, but if I quickly move it out of the Flash area and onto say the html document, it doesn't update fast enough, and thus still thinks the mouse is hovering over it.
I know I can simply update the movie frame rate which does work, but I was wondering if there is any way to get Flash to check to see if the mouse IS ACTUALLY ACTIVE over it, and if not close the submenu?
I'm a begginer flash game developer-ish individual working on my first project - An economic game with RPG elements, I'm mixing AS 3.0 with Flash CS5 (for the graphics, buttons, tweens and the simple stuff in general since it's easier for me atm than scripting it). The trouble started when I had to script in variables. I've sorted out a couple of issues but a few still remain:
1. I need to limit three of my main skills to 0-100. Only managed to stumble across tutorials for AS2,
2. Each character will have 3 main skills, and then the 18 secondary skills will be calculated from those 3 values. This works fine, when I modify existing variables directly in the code. The thing is that I created those buttons that add or subtract from a certain skill value, but when I press them the var changes but all of the 18 skills remain unchanged (as if they do not refresh themselves - i was thinking about an eventListener waiting for a change in skill value but if I would have to do one for every one of the 18 skills in conjunction with the 6 buttons to change levels - so 144 functions - im thinking maybe an array...but I'm such an actionscript newb that I can hardly translate the tutorials into my ideas.
3. Also wondering how to create a pool of unused skill points so when I add points I can't max it out right off the bat but rather take it from that value instead and once it's 0 you can't add points anymore.
4. Last but not least, I'm having trouble creating global values. My main menu is in scene1 and when I press Newgame it goes to scene2, the problem starts when i go back to main menu errors keep showing up (since scene 1 has no information about statistics but a function probably keeps asking )which means that the program can't get access to an attribute or a method of reference for the null object at MainMenu_fla (don't be fooled by the file name, I have everything in 1 fla file)Of course an error pops up for every skill, main or secondary.
For a flash website I'm creating, I want my main window box with all the information containing it to fly in when a menu button is clicked. I can't figure out the actionscript to do that. It's the same thing as this website's main window:
I'm currently working on a project were I would like to enlargen some of my menus ( there are wround 30 menus ), and this should be done when the user clicks a on one of the three buttons in the "main-menu".Now, I've been trying to create a function that, when one of the "main-menu" buttons is clicked, are called. This function then defines the menus and makes them scale, however the following code returns: "undefined".[code]Maybe a "for" loop isn't the solution, or maybe I'm just trying to define the items in a wrong way, with the array thing ( "...item[q].sca...").Btw. all the menus are loaded in dynamically through an XML document.
I am using a main .swf with buttons on a navigation menu that loads external .swf(s) - these load external videos (I use them as their backgrounds).In the main .FLA I have used the following code (in the first and unique frame):
CODE
var Xpos:Number = 110;
var Ypos:Number = 180;
var swf:MovieClip;
var loader:Loader = new Loader(); var defaultSWF:URLRequest = new URLRequest("swfs/eyesClosed.swf");[code].....

I can make each button on the menu load each external .swf correctly with videos included - but when I leave that .swf using the navigation buttons to go to another section, the video and audio keep working in the background.
I am creating a very basic menu. My project consists of a main file that then calls other swf's to fill in the rest of the content. My main timeline is this. There is an preloader which hasn't been built yet, a intro section that is two movie clips (one loads the layout, one fades in my buttons). Then when all this loads, I load the first swf. My difficulty is that I am trying to get my buttons, which are held in mc_buttons, to change the variable myLoader on the main timeline. So when you click on a button, it swaps in a different swf for the current loaded one. I have tried calling the following code attached below.
My error is: "1119: Access of possibly undefined property myLoader through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObjectContainer." Now, if I define the myLoader variable in the mc_buttons and do an addchild() there, I get the correct content, it just is on top of the old content which isn't what I want...
I need a tutorial for a hierarchical drop down menu system that drops down 3 sub levels. Do I make the items in the sub menus individual buttons and then insert them into a movie clip or make every sub menu item a movie clip and insert them into buttons?
I am attempting to have the main timeline move from a stopped position over a movie clip to frame 1, where my start menu is.The code I'm using does move the timeline but in doing so it somehow breaks the 4 buttons I have in frame 1.
My code in the movie clip: stop() function replayMovie(event:MouseEvent):void
i have template monster in flash an i customizing it i'm trying to add sub menu to the main menu i know how i can add it but my problem is how to direct the link in sub menu to page i want here's the fla file may be can find some [URL]
My menu has 3 movieclip buttons, with text. I broke apart the text to change the color onMouseOver. Problem is the button only works when the mouse is pointed over the actual text, so it doesn't work properly, because the text is obviously very small. I can't put a "field" behind it, because it will become part of the MC, and thus will change color. Here's the example: [URL]
I have a menu movieclip that pops out from the right hand side on rollover. On this menu there are four buttons for menu navigation options. However these buttons are not working properly. I feel that the menu movieclip is taking precedence over the buttons because the whole menu is than clickable, while the buttons show up, however are not clickable. Here's what I have so far:
I have created this site with a expanding / collapsin menu. When a user selects a menu e.g. "hammers" then the menu is loaded and show the submenues. When the users closes the menu by moving the mouse away from the area the menu collapses. If the user expands the menu again the menu should have remember the last visit menu and show the menu.
Here're my 2 problems: 1-I did a menu moving in 3d following my mouse movement. But i would like it to have a limit of rotation on the left and on the right, cause i don't the user to see the back of the image (the image is rotating 360 right now, i would like it to rotate maybe like 90 or less). Here's the code i am using:
[Code]...
2-My second question is about my menu buttons. I want them to be on lower layer cause it help creating my 3d scene cause sometimes it is a part cover by my image on the top. But the buttons stop to be clickable when they are behind something (even a part behind). I want them to be clickable at all time. The strange thing is i checked out in the forum and a lot of people have the opposite problem... their buttons still work. How can i make mine clickable?
i want to add new Menu in flash IDE and i want to add inside the adobe flash menu. How i can add new menu in menubar and new menu item inside the help menu. is it possible to do this things if yes then which language i have to use for this. what is way to start development and what is the .MXP file and how to create this .MXP file.
The menu is like this http:[url]... (the site is in portuguese but it doesnt matter), when I click in on menu the actual menu does an alpha to 0 and the next menu appears using the alpha from 0 to 100 (and some animations like the cellphone going up).Now, how can I do a menu like that, whatever the menu I choose, it does that alpha animation ?
I'm trying to create an xml accordion menu that has main menus and a sub menus buttons (movieClips) revealed with a mask. Simple question, How do I stop the mask area which reveals the sub menus catching mouseEvents on the submenus?The main menu button is a movieClip, it has the mask sprite attached to it as a property so it can scale dynamically to reveal the subMenus. They are set as children of the main menu button container. In my code I've set mainMenu.mouseChildern = true. But when the mainMenu is clicked I change mouseEnabeled = false to help prevent the main menu receiving events. This helps on rollOver rollOut events, but when I click or mouseDown on the subMenu the mask catches the event also and activates the main menu again. I've tried the obvious mask.mouseEnabled = false; mask.mouseChildern = false; mask.hitArea = null; and even setting mask.alpha = 0 but this has no effect at all.
I don't understand why the mask has to extend the hitArea property of the mainMenu and why this can't be set to null. It also seems crazy that when mouseChildren = true the parent clip also has to receive notice of the event.
Good day to everyone. I'm here today to seek help about Flash CS4 and ActionScript 3.0. The story starts when one day, my boss asked me to make a flash presentation about their upcoming user training for a newly developed software. I was enthusiastic and excited about it because it's been a long time that I did not use Flash (note that I don't have any experience in ActionScript 3.0). At first, everything was a bit rough as I need to recall how to properly use the frames to create a successful animation. As I was about to finish the project, my boss approached me again and asked if I could insert a menu page in front so that the users won't have to replay the whole thing again just to look for a little something on that part of the movie. So yea, at first I was abit hesitant to accept. I said that it will work with Powerpoint. But she's a total pusher and I was forced to say yes. Now I'm having this problem about how to make a flash button load a swf movie.I've tried searching all over the net for tutorials but most of the times the "getUrl" and other stuff are said to be outdated.
I'm creating a webpage, and I have made some buttons.Image 1 is the homepage, which is frame 1 in Flash.Image 2 shows that when I rollover the button "Portfolio,"I get a dropdown menu.I have this set as frame 3 in Flash.Image 3 shows that I've gone down the dropdown menu and rolled over "Photography." But if I rollout of any of the things from the dropdown menu, it stays at Image 2 (Frame 3)with the dropdown menu visible. Which is a problem...I want to be able to rollout of these buttons to revert back to the homepage, Image 1 (Frame 1).But, for instance, telling "Graphic Design" to go to Frame 1 on rollout means that if I try to go below "Graphic Design" to "Photography," I've rolled out--and so the rest of the menu disappears.So I want to roll be able to select anything from the dropdown menu, and only rollout to Frame 1 if I go outside the entire dropdown menu, not just one button.
i have AS2 coded menu it's working xml but i can add 11 categories.if i add menu item show page out...i want menu item 11 later menu 12 menu 13 in bottom. sorry my english i add flash file and screen
ive followed Senoculars drop-down menu tute [URL], awsome stuff, but it seems the submenu's dont disappear to well when you roll out. ..They only disappear if you click on another menu item or when you click outside the menu.
I am creating a navigation bar in Flash (which will then be used in Dreamweaver). When you mouse over each topic in menu (ex. Products), i want it play a movie clip (so it shoots out a sub-menu underneath). so far so good, but the only thing is, the sub-menu won't stay open in order for me to click on buttons in it. For each button, I assigned it the Behavior to go to a url. Also, I tested the buttons within the mc and they don't seem to direct me to url. do you think maybe it's because it's nested within the movie clip?? Is there an easier way to go about this?
Basically, I have a button and on click it displays a menu. I want to click that menu a second time and the menu closes. Currently, every time you click the button, the menu reopens. I pasted the Flex livedoc example below. If you click the button, the menu keeps reopening.Now, I rigged it up by setting a var to open and closed, so when clicking the button it does a check. However, if you click away from the screen, the HIDE event gets dispatched, and the menu closes. This messed up the open close var being set.
How could I make this Flex example below show the menu on button click, and then on a second button click, it closes the menu? Take into affect that if you click away from the menu, it closes it.Also, I played around with the MOUSE_DOWN_OUTSIDE event for the button and set the preventDefault, and the FlexMouseEvent event.cancelable is set to false.Changing to a PopUpMenuButton is not an option. I have to much skinning involved.Here is the Flex example:
<mx:Script> <![CDATA[ // Import the Menu control. import mx.controls.Menu;
I'm trying to make a menu that has onRelease buttons on top of onRollover buttons (the onReleases are on a separate layer from the onRollovers). The onRelease buttons take the user to different urls, and the onRollover buttons are supposed to allow different parts of the menu to appear.
The onRelease buttons work fine, but I can't get the onRollover buttons to work consistently. Sometimes the onRollover buttons will correctly advance to a different frame, and sometimes they "stick" and do not advance. The script has no errors and I've tried changing the sizes of the onRollover buttons (in case they were too large and the cursor was hovering over more than 1 at the same time), changing the order of the code for the onRelease and onRollover commands (in case the onRollovers were being superseded by the onRelease commands), and countless variations of the layers and frames.
I'm sure that you'll want to see the script, but I don't think that pasting it all on this post would be reasonable? So I've put the .fla and the .swf on this page for reference: [URL]
Im making a OOP game. Using classes ect. But how does the main menu system work? Well Im not full OOP yet i guess. the player spawn point and level boundaries are all visually set up on frame one. But im unsure as how main menu sytems ever worked OOP or not.
I'm trying to create a pull down menu. Not one that drops down when rolled over but one that drops down when clicked and stays down until an item is selected. Once an item is selected or the menu is clicked out of it retracks again.
My strategy is to create a movie clip for the initial menu that when clicked jumps to another movie clip where ther menu is extracted and houses movie clip buttons that hightlight when rolled over and when clicked redirect to another movie clip related to the button that was selected.
is this the proper way to do this? And second: can you offer some direction for the action script?
Basically, I have a navigation bar with several buttons. When a button is pressed, a new sub navigation should be displayed in a different location. So on my main nav, I have mouse events, and on the click event, each button points to an xml file
function mouseClickEvent3(eve:MouseEvent):void { setLoader("XML/path.xml"); }
[code]....
Now all the menus get created no problem. The problem is this. One main button produces a sub menu with six buttons, which are displayed no problem. I then click on another main button which has 3 sub buttons. These 3 buttons replace the 3 buttons that the first button displayed, but the last three are not removed. Sometimes, only two buttons seem to get replaced.
What I really need to do is this. Before any buttons are created, I need to somehow remove any buttons which currently exist. I have tried things like this before the for each loop
for (var y:Number=0; y<i; y++){ removeChild(menuItem); }
