View 1 Repliessuppose I have an AS3 app made using FlashDevelop (I don't have the expensive IDE). Now I want to turn it into AIR app to deploy it on mobile or run it on the desktop or whatever. So how do I do that? Is there a free conversion utility? Or would I need to either buy some IDE or else get somebody else with a license do the conversion for me?
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a site which allows people to pay to stream videos online. I'm currently using JW Player to stream FLV/F4V files from Amazon S3, using a signature.This method is extremely unstable, and needless to say, useless. I've heard I can use Amazon CloudFront as a CDN for my videos. But that it won't make the files any more secure, if I've understood it correctly.Price is an important thing. I know hosting/streaming video is expensive, but what are my best options, for a cheap, reliable, and as-safe-you-can solution for me? I have very little hosting experience,

View 3 RepliesI am interested in saving the text content of flash based chat in a text file or xml. The repetition of the recorded words is very much correlated to the social , and psychological monitoring research I need to accomplish. The web based chat is not my own, so i don't have any administrative privileges over the server.
View 3 RepliesI need to find a flash video player that is free and open source. I love flowplayer and jwplayer but we fit into their most expensive licenses. It will cost us over $1400 to license flowplayer for our use. We don't have that right now.
I just need a flash player with a basic javascript api that is truly free. I have been googling for hours and nothing so far.
It would be a huge plus if someone knows of a chromeless youtube player that uses the youtube as3 api. I don't have time right now to code an entire chromeless player complete with all the controls and a progress bar.
I'm building a website where I hook people up so that they can anonymously vent to strangers. You either choose to be a listener, or a talker, and then you get catapulted into a one-on-one chat room. The reason for the app's construction is because you often can't vent to friends, because your deepest vulnerabilities can often be leveraged against you later on. (Like it or not, this is a part of human nature. Sad.)
I'm looking for some insight into how I should architect everything. I found this neat tutorial, [URL], which suggests using python & stackless + flash. Someone else suggested I should try using p2p sockets, but I don't even know where to begin to look for info on that.
Anyone know how to create a flash based text and audio chat application?
View 1 RepliesIts just a quick question: Is it possible to run a falsh based voice chat without using the flash media server and instead using some kind of peer to peer connection? (just one to one connection, one to many connections are not needed)

View 3 RepliesI'm doing some research for a Maps project I'll be starting soon, and I'm trying to evaluate which of the Map APIs will be best-suited to this project. I've worked pretty extensively with the Google Maps Javascript API, but no others. My basic requirements are, in no particular order[code]...
Flexible: the Google Maps JS API is a good example of this. Basically this leads to lots of good things like numerous third-party plugins/extensions, and puts a lot of power in the devs' hands.
Well-documented and supported: again, the GMap JS API is a good example. If I'm going to start working with a new, rich API, I'm going to need to be able to find answers.
As of now, I'm inclined to use the Google Map Javascript API since I am familiar with it. However, the question of whether or not the Flash API might be able to handle many points more efficiently and gracefully prompted this SO question.
I am writing a webcam chat in flash (for the client side), I also am using PHP/Apache/Memcache for the server side for text chats... What exactly will I need in terms of server side software to connect these users flash/swf sessions together? I currently have an ubuntu server running Lamp (Apache/Php/MySql/Memcache)the client to client text chatting works fine, just need to somehow connect the webcams.
View 1 RepliesLooking for a component which can be embedded inside my site (PHP, ASP.NET...whatever) and give a support for video chat. I'm not a flex developer and would like to use a component. There are some/many video chats available, like flashcoms, red5chat...but all of those are heavy(monolit) components.
What I would like to have on my site is just a small video showing output from my camera (me) and another video showing the other party...but those videos should be split, not in the same flash component, but separate (two different EMBED tags on my page).
Are there any components available to do that (of course with support from appropriate media server)? Are there any good guides on how to develop such a component?
I just wrote a P2P video chat similiar to the Cirrus example application on my web site. It works great, as long as both users manually open the ports required for RTMFP. Naturally this is a deal breaker for me - since no one will use it. What is the standard solution in this case? Should I publish the instructions of how to open the ports on different firewalls? Should I write a small batch file to be downloaded that programmatically opens the ports? Is there a different (commercial) tool that allows me to bypass it in any other way?
View 1 RepliesReading "Building the realtime user experience" by Ted Roden, I was wondering how to go further and get some video chat web app up and running without the use of flash.
So, in terms of feasibility:
client-side: how can one access to cam and mic local streams not using flash ?
server-side: are there any existing frameworks or open source servers (something like red5) that focus on this kind of use cases ? If not, what do I need to build my own (lightweight) visio chat server ?
I have been asked to develop a generic chat client which can be used as a widget(with fb,twitter) which works fine with all XMPP supported applications. I have decided to use flex along vit java. how the whole chat application works? Also which server to use?openfire or blaze DS?? what's the difference?

View 1 Replieswe are developing a flash app that works like a video-chat (form 2 or more users) and streaming ,
Does anybody know if the Flash player for mobile devices will work with this or not? Are there any boundaries?
The following code is a combination of samples taken from red5. Basically I am trying to combine a live stream subscriber with a chat box based on shared objects. I'm not a flash developer and have a very limited understanding of what is going on here.
// ** AUTO-UI IMPORT STATEMENTS **
import org.red5.utils.Connector;
import org.red5.samples.simplechat.BasicChat;
[code]....
I don't think that var chat is being initialized anywhere as trace(chat) prints 'undefined'. However var connector and var publish_video seem to collect their instances from the stage.
This sample code included those two and worked fine, but I can't make my additions behave the same way.
I have added an instance of BasicChat to the stage (I'm using Flash CS4) and have spent the past many hours playing with it's various properties, layers and groupings, but to no avail. why my var chat isn't collecting its instance from the stage?
I am developing Video Chat over Ip (including audio and text too). But I am unable to get the proper startup material for my desktop application.
