Actionscript 3 :: Flash Game - High Score With Graphics Not With Text

Jan 1, 2010

is it possible to use graphics (the numbers 0-9 in one png-file) instead of a Textfield to show the high score of a game to the player? With a TextField it is easy to "refresh" the score but what can I do, if I want to use my png-files for the score? Is there a simple way to do this? How are other flash game designer do it?

My current solution (not tested, just in my head) is, to create 10 bitmaps (numbers from 0-9) or 1 bitmap with all the numbers in it and then convert the current score into a string, split this string and for every digit show the matching bitmap. Update: or should i try to use filters on the textfield to create a "more beautiful" score?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Attach Graphics Instead Of MC Cause A Graphics File Size Is Relatively Small Than That Of A Graphic?

Apr 9, 2005

I was wondering about MC and hey can help to lag a game out. I set up an advanced class system so i don't have to use MC to simulate walls, all i use isthe x,y,width and height. Well anyway since i don't need MC anymore I was wondering if there is a way to attach Graphics instead of MC cause a Graphics file size is relatively small than that of a graphic, I think. If anyone could tell me thats true and show me a way to attach graphics that would be nice. I haven't tried it yet but maybe if I exported the graphic from the library imihgt be able to call its name, but it doesn't have an instance name so im stuck.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Divinding Vector Graphics Into Vector Graphics

Jul 28, 2009

I have a large vector drawing (imagine 5000x5000) that i want to break up into separate pieces. I know that I can convert this vector drawing into a bitmap and then use the copyPixels method to create many separate bitmaps of the different regions of the original vector drawing, but is there any way to subdivide it into movieclips that just contain vector graphics instead of a bitmap? The reason im dividing a big chunk of vector graphics into smaller pieces is for performance reasons, so flash would only render a small part of this big chunk at a time (only certain regions/voxels/subdivisions are rendered at a time). But bitmaps apparently take up a lot of memory and the system im using would take much less memory if these subdivisions could be preserved in their original vector graphics form.

I imagine I could use masks somehow to achieve this effect (for each subdivision, duplicate the huge image and mask only the region that the subdivision represents), but I dont know the performance costs of masking or if this will create other problems. So is there anyway to split up a movieclip of vector graphics into smaller movieclips of vector graphics the same way copyPixels can with bitmaps?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Getting High FPS On AIR For Android?

Dec 2, 2011

I am working on a small educational game which is made in Flash and ported on Android via AIR. I'm having hard time getting desired FPS (which is 20) on Android device (It's Vizio tableturl]....).Main problem is score card which is 1024x768 movie clip with 45 frames. Earlier we had vector graphic movie clip which totally messed up performance, now we have converted all frames into JPEGs and we're getting average of ~8 FPS when score card comes.

how to get higher FPS? I personally think that score card is very big in resolution. But am I missing any tricks or special method for mobile device rendering?I was thinking to try Blitting... has anyone tried and got really positive results outta it?

Data Integration :: Getting High-res PDF With Transparency From SWF

Oct 18, 2007

I'm an art student and have produced some pieces in Flash 8. Now I've been asked for a high-quality (i.e. a letter-sized print at 600dpi) image, but the animation uses transparency.

I've been able to generate vector-based PDFs that I can blow up to as big as I want with no quality loss, but the transparency dissappears.

When I conserve the transparency, I get something that'll print at about 1/10 the size I need at 600dpi.

If it's not possible from the Flash Player (or from Flash 8), then does anyone know of an alternate program that'll do this for me (preferably free or cheap)?

How To Export Flash For DVD In High Quality

I have a flash presentation thats for a supermarket TV screen. Its big in file size 9.6MB. When I go file/export/export movie to quicktime and use the animation settings the file plays but leaves trail lines behind, skips frames and looks crap.

The quicktime settings I've used are either:
Animation
Quality Best
Millions of colours
All Key frames
24fps
or
DV - PAL
Frame rate 24fps
Quality Best
I need it to look high quality but I am not sure what settings to use.

Professional :: Jvm.ini - Too Low - Can't Run App - Too High - Flash Won't Open

Sep 28, 2011

So I recently switchs to a new computer. Installed flash and got everything up and running. On the old computer, I was forced to set the jvm.ini to use -Xmx512M in order to run the application (it's kinda big) But now, if I set it 512, flash will not open... I get the Java enviroment error.

Now, I lower the xmx value more and more and more until flash FINALLY opens without an error... I load up my application and when I try to run it, I get the java memory heap error and it tells me to adjust the jvm.ini file. Anyone know how I can get flash cs5.5 on a windows 7 64bit machine with 8 gigs of ram to open with a larger jvm.ini value?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Internal High Scores (without PHP/SQL/XML), How To?

find a piece of code that creates a high score list of say, the 10 best scores for a Flash game, and stores it inside the .fla. I'm aware of the fact it'd be much handier via PHP and a MySQL database, but I'm making a game for a contest in which it isn't allowed to use any additional files (also no txt files) next to the main game swf .

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash8 With High Score Table?

Dec 28, 2009

I need some urgent help with my high score table. My scoreboard was based of a tutorial that I found using php and flash to create a scoreboard. When I use the scoreboard in flash (using ctrl + enter) the scoreboard runs fine... It uploads the new name and score and reads the scores from the board then loads them to flash. But the problem is as soon as I try to use the created "*.SWF" file, it acts as if nothing is meant to happen... I click on the button to upload and reload the scores and nothing happens at all.

I loaded the file onto the same FTP site i'm hosting the scores and the PHP file and the scoreboard once again worked fine. Upon trying to post it anywhere else, the scoreboard won't work.

I have the local playback security setting set to "Access network only".

High CPU Usage When Playing Flv Files With Flash

Feb 21, 2009

As more and more FLV videos are moving to HD, I'm noticing high CPU usage and lots of dropped frames when playing FLV video in web browser with Flash 10. This is true even if the video isn't full screen. I've tried a variety of browsers (Firefox, I.E., Chrome) and the problem occurs on all of them so it's pretty clear it's a limitation in Flash.

Now my PC isn't high end (it has a Pentium M 1.86 GHz processor), but I can take those same FLV files and load them in something like Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player (when using ffdshow) and play the FLV files full screen with little or no drop in frames and an acceptable CPU rate.

This is especially annoying on sites like YouTube where I actually have to save the video and play it back in something other than Flash to have it play back at an acceptable rate. This doesn't work for other sites like Amazon.

Why is the CPU usage so high when decoding and displaying videos when compared to other media players?
