Would I put the "email" on var field or instance?
I have a flash and php based mail form that needs to have the fields verified. So when a user does not insert info in the text fields, an error clip will play. The form works fine without the verification of fields, but I want to prevent from receiving blank emails. The form is created in 2 parts or tutorials since I'm trying to add field verification or error message. Here are the links of the tutorials. [URL] and the next link is for the field verification. View 2 RepliesI have a BUNCH of bumpers of four types bounceUp, bounceDown, bounceLeft, bounceRight. during a collision which you hit determines the bounce so they always do the same thing so here's my question.....can i just name every bounceUp instance the same thing and then just add that one instance name to the list the collision detector checks?
i just dont wanna go through and name a hundred each of bounceUp s and bounceDown s individually as the potential for screaming increases proportionally.......
I've created a product registration form for my website and the basics of it work fine, ie when I click submit the info successfully gets e-mailed to me. I'd like to expand the functionality of it, however. As is, I get an e-mail regardless if any of the fields are filled in or not. I'd like for users to be directed to an error page when the e-mail field is blank and a thank you page otherwise. How would I do this? I imagine it can either be done directly in flash or would the php instruct the browser to navigate to the error or thank you page? Key is I don't want the form to be submitted if the email is blank.

View 6 RepliesI have an .as package that I have attached to a simple .fla with a List component and named it list. I have done this in an earlier document that I built using a tutorial and it worked then. Now I am getting an error:1120: Access of undefined property list.This is something that I've seen a thousand times when I forget to give something an instance name, but this time I have not forgotten. I've double and triple checked. The .fla file is just a document with a list component on it. It will be getting its data from a html page via javascript. Here is my package:

what i would like to do is create a search field that as the user types in the search bar if there are any matching entries in the list, the focus/selection jumps to that particular item in list. i don't want to clear the list just go to the item that matches.i would like it to be predictive so if i have these entries:and the user types "s" in the search box to the first "s" entry in the list (samson) is selected, if they type "se" the selection jumps to the first entry with "se" in it (seek) if they type "seet" the selection jumps to "seether" and so on.i have absolutely no idea how to do it, but more importantly...is this possible? i'm creating a flash news scroller that accesses an external file to read news headlines.I've created the main system which works roughly as follows.The main movie clip reads the external headlines & related article texts from a file (using loadvariables) and puts them into an array.I loop over the array creating several new instances of a movie clip (lets call it "news_piece"), placing one above the other. "News_piece" contains 2 text fields called "Headline" and "Article", so i change the contents of these fields for each instance of the movie, retrieving the contents from the array.The outer movie then scrolls the lot.
Now comes the difficult bit...stay with me... sometimes the headlines can be 1, 2 or 3 lines in length. So, if I want the article text to start directly below the headline, I guess I'll have to move the lower Text field ("Article") a bit higher/lower in that particular instance of the "News_piece" movie.So, to summarize, I wanna move the co-ordinates of a text field in an instance of a movie clip
I have a problem with a button.It has 4 keyframe and a text field with the same instance name "myText".I use this button in a MC, and its instance name is "myBtn".I'm trying to change myText with actionscript in the MC without any results.Debugging it I find a text field insiede this button named "instance6", so i think there is some problem with instance name.
I trying with:

and it says "undefined"!
How can i correctly give instance name to this text field?Is there any way to find out the name of the instance of an object (the text field) knowing the instance name of its parent (the button)?
I have created an organizational chart for the company I work for displaying all current employees. Each contact is shown as a button that displays a 'popup' window on rollover. All of this works perfectly. What I want is to create an option to click on each button and the individuals email address be added to a dynamic text field at the bottom of the page.
Just to clarify, I am able to have text entered into the text field on each click, however, clicking on the next button removes the previous text. I want each click to create a new entry in a list. For example: "contact1; contact2; contact3;" etc etc. The end result would be for the user to copy all text (email addresses) from the dynamic text box and paste it into their Outlook "To" section.
I would like to make a dynamic text field wich write the instance name of the symbol when the cursor is over one. I have more than 1300 symbols so it would be a really big help if I wouldn't have to write thousands of lines.
View 2 RepliesDoes creating a new instance of an Object that uses an identical name to an older instance, delete the previous instance? Or should the original instance be deleted first? The code uses a ridiculous amount of XML vars. Isn't it less memory intensive to parse the XML and save the properties to an Object, and then delete the XML Object, rather than keep the XML Object around and reference it's child nodes directly? Is it better form to break up a huge XML file (>600lines/3200vars) into smaller chunks?

I want to set up mail in my Flash site. The only thing I can figure out is to have someone fill out a form and click button for it to open in their email browser with forms filled out.
I purchased my site name from GoDaddy and am using a free server to host. GoDaddy provided me with one email address. I would like to send the data to this email account with the click of the button instead of opening someones email browser. An even bigger "dream" would be the ability to attach a file to the email from my form.[code]...

I have traced out the contents of the List MC and it has a child MC called 'content_mc'. I assumed this was the object containing all of my list items but the only members of this MC I can see (when tracing them out) are 'setRGB' and 'searchKey'.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

I want to add a SimpleButton to a list item in a list component. I am getting the CellRenderer for the list item I want and using the addChild method to add the simple button. The button appears in the right spot on the list item but it doesn't function like a button. It's like the contents of the buttons first frame is added to the CellRenderer and nothing else.
