I'm setting up an HTML page that automatically starts playing a flash video. Well at the bottom of that page - is an area with testimonials thumbnails that the user can click on loading up a small flash video in that component. Is there a way to tell the main video to pause or restart or whatever so that I don't have two videos playing at once?

Dreamweaver tells me that swfobject.registerObject does not exist, or something like that, but I see this code being used elsewhere. I have swfobject.js in my main folder, too.

Need to place multiple SWFs in a single HTML page and was wondering if there was some way to send commands from one of the movies to the other wihtout reloading the page. (would prefer not to reload the page and all the components and have the page "blink" - go blank before loading new and cached data) Unfortunately cannot build this as a single flash object with multiple MCs.. must be multiple SWFs.
Have an idea or two on how to set this up with HTML framesets and loading subpages ( a cheat certainly and far less than elegant) but would prefer not to deal with the heartache that would entail - especially since areas of the page would still "blink" on loading.
I have 3 seperate .swf on a single html page which are all communicating with FMS on separate connections. Do you think there will be any stability issues? or connection issues. All the .swf use the same main.asc. There are no apparant problems so far just need an expert opnion.....a side note is I've also noticed an error in the error logs that says its detected a backwards time stamp when recodring. Whats that all about? The application seems fine. Using FMS 3.0

It could have been php or java i don't know but i would like to know how to do that. That way i create one flash nav bar and it can tell what page it's on so i can make it so you can't click the page your on.Let say i have three pages Home, About us and Contact us and build a flash navigation for it. Some where in the HTML documents there is a code that tells flash what page it is. Flash reads this info and knows "oh i am on the Home page" or "i'm on the Contact us page" and will respond accordingly.

View 2 RepliesI have a site where all the pages have a common SWF embedded at the top (Nav and banner), but the rest of the page is HTML.Everything is working fine, but I'm finding the 'independence' between the HTML and Flash is making for some sloppy transitions from page to page.I was expecting the SWF to be delayed, at least for the first page visit(and I have a preload routine inside the swf to make it's delay and appearance a bit more visually pleasant), but was surprised to sometimes find the SWF appearing and playing while the HTML content was delayed (resulting in a SWF floating in black).What I'm wondering is if there's a way I can do some sort of preload on my index page.BUT, not the standard one that I'm sure everyone would suggest (like the javascript image 'preload', or the newer 'css visibility' preload trick). The problem with the standard one is that it doesn't check to see if everything is loaded.What I'm after is a routine on my index page that invisibly loads some of the elements from my inner pages (common swf, maybe some of the images) and WAITS until it's done before moving to the inner pages (displaying the company logo and/or a load status in the meantime).Many people would suggest a preloader inside the common SWF on my inner pages (which I have), but the problem with that on its own is that it doesn't stop the HTML from displaying.

I have a html/flash site now, [URL]. i access email from my site itself by giving the userid and pwd text box which i copied from the actual website hosting my email access. i copied the entire <form...></form> tag to my page and thus was able to put the name and pwd in my home page only and access the email in a separate window. now i have redesigned my webpage using only flash. i would like to know how i can implement the same using flash. as i have not much experience using action scripting i am a bit stuck about how you pass the hidden form variables. the below is the the exact form syntax:

when you go to the home.html page an animation will play from start and then stop at the end of it. However, for all other pages i.e contact.html aboutus.html we need the animation to skip to the end straight away and not to play the whole animation through. I was thinking this would be controlled by a variable or some kind of external text file ect. Basically in the first frame the actionscript needs to basically say
"if this html page is aboutus.html then go to the last frame and stop" and with the index page it would say "if this html page is index.html then keep playing"
how do you properly handle namespace collisions in SWC files if one SWC has fewer classes from that namespace than another?I have a rather large Flash application which I'm building in Flash Builder (because coding/debugging in the Flash IDE is.not good) and I've got a ton of external SWC files which I'm linking in to my application. This has worked well so far - the file size is on the large side, but it's a lot simpler than loading in SWFs, especially since I am extending most of the classes in each SWC and adding custom code that way (it's a very design-heavy app.) The problem I'm having is when I have Flash Components, like ComboBox or TextInput, in more than one SWC. Whichever SWC was compiled last will work fine, but the others will fail with errors like the following:

I've been researching components, ComponentShim, etc. but I'm running up against a brick wall. I thought it might be the fact that some of the components had their skins modified in the source FLA, so I tried replacing them with the default skins. How can I ensure that I have the components imported and available to all my classes, yet still be able to skin them and include them in my various FLAs?

Am working on a flash component that is supposed to display some dynamic text which might include HTML formatting. This text is displayed in a label component (AS3), and i would want it to render correctly, like create a line break when <br> is inserted, but it doesn't!
So am wondering what the supported HTML tags in the label component, and in general all other flash components?
I am using several instances of the same custom component on the same SWF. The component is essentially just a textfield with special sizing requirements. I also have another "wrapper" component that deals with the info from the textfield components. I was initially planning on using the stage index to associate the data with the textfield component it came from. This became more complicated than I anticipated. When I trace from the wrapper i can't get the index of the textfield components. So I got it in the component code and sent it with the info to the wrapper via a custom event. The problem there is that i can't tell which component is which because they are indexed identically. I can also see the component shim as well as the textfield.I'm just really confused about how programmatic components work on the display list.
My main Question. Is there a better way to associate the info with the proper component? I guess that's my only question. Please point me in the right direction.
EDIT2: I created a dummy place-holder component that just draws a rectangle then at runtime replaces it with programmatically generated textfield component.
Ok, this is a somewhat complicated issue dealing with SWCs and compilers. I've outlined steps to reproduce the problem below. I'm using the method outlined here to bring in Flash content to my project. I have 15-20 SWCs already, and it's working fine for those assets, the problem is specifically related to Flash's components (ComboBox, RadioButton etc.) If anyone has *any* advice on this, please let me know as we are completely stumped at this point!
The issue we're having involves using multiple external SWC files which contain AS3 components from Flash CS4. When two SWCs are linked to an ActionScript project (using Flash Builder 4 Beta (build 4.0.0)) there are collisions in the referenced classes which cause the most recently published SWC to knock out any duplicate classes in the other SWCs. Unfortunately it won't work to have the preloader loading at the top while the rest of the html below is visible — it will end up looking like the top navigation is cut off, as the top 10 pixels of the nav bar is actually in the swf header (fully loaded it will look contiguous)Is there a way to preload it in one html page and then once it's loaded into the cache automatically jump to the page with the big swf?
