ActionScript 2.0 :: Online Game - How To Disable Caching
Nov 22, 2003
I'm making an online game where you can walk around in a city, and you see the others walk around as well at the same time. I made the script in php. The problem now is: I'm loading vars from flash out of the php-file, I know I can fool the cache by adding a unique number to it. That works, but I'm loading the php-file every second and if you look at your temporary internet files, you get a list of maybe thousand times the same php-file. In the beginning that didn't really matter, but now when I look at my site stats the list is like 5000 pages long... There must be an other way to fool the cache. And I was thinking about an old html-tag I used once to make sure your html-file wasn't loaded from cache: [URL].
I have a flash application and I want my users not to be able to do caching in their flash players.I couldn't find the code that disables the option of caching for them.Does anyone have the line I need to add (and where) which will disable the flash caching?
I have a web application developped using as3. The problem is that these application loads some image files, and add my watermark to them.What is happening is that these images are being cached by the browser, allowing the users who know how to access the tmp folder, to get these files, without my watermark.Adding the watermark previously to the image, is not an alternative for me, due the fact that when the a premium user is logged in the watermark is not added.How can I disable the caching?
I have a Flash application that sends a getURL request for an image file every 60 seconds.
This works fine in all browsers except IE9 with Internet Option set to automatically check for newer versions of stored pages. I setup Charles proxy (http://xk72.com) to watch the requests being sent by my flash app and confirmed that the request is being surpressed by IE9 when the setting is set to Auto, but works fine if I change the setting to check everytime I visit the webpage. This, however, is not an option! I need this to work in all browsers regardless of how the options are set.
Even if I do a page refresh (F5), the ASP page does not reload. The only way to get it to reload is close the browser and restart it.
I have tried adding content headers to disable caching but it does not appear to work.
For Example, here is my request headers:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date Sun, 02 Oct 2011 23:58:31 GMT Server Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Expires Tue, 09 Nov 2010 14:59:39 GMT Cache-control no-cache max-age 0 Content-Length 9691 Content-Type text/html Set-Cookie ASPSESSIONIDACQBSACA=ECJPCLHADMFBDLCBHLJFPBPH; path=/ Cache-control private
I have read the Microsoft blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2010/07/14/caching-improvements-in-internet-explorer-9.aspx) which states that if I add the content headers, the browser should respect my request, but it obviously does not.
I don't think this is a Flash issue since the html page that holds the Flash object will not even reload.
YouTube achieved quite a feat when they made youtube videos work with cache. However, this is causing a problem on my ajax site and would like to know if there is a way to disable youtube videos being cached. Especially in Internet Explorer.
I cannot disable caching for the whole page as I need caching to work for images and other content for speed reasons.
SWF caching has bit me quite a few times now. I want to debug in the browser because that's where the swf will run. But Firefox sometimes caches local files incorrectly, thinking that it has the latest version when it doesn't. This can cause a huge headache with debugging, causing me to wonder why something doesn't work no matter what I do.
The workaround I use is to create a custom html file in bin-debug that loads the swf with a random string appended so Firefox never caches it. This works fine, but every time I start a new project, I need to remember to do this.
There are a lot of flash games that ask u to do repetitive actions. An example would be FarmVille or getting statistics on on-line poker game. What is the best way to create an interface between what you see on the screen, a bot's algorithm and clicking of the mouse. So basically, when I'm playing a texas hold'em on face book and if I get AA I want the bot to click all-in. If I don't get AA I want to fold. This is just an example, not the actual strategy. Or another examples would be routing tasks in farmville. So basically. It has to grab a picture of the screen. recognize patterns and convert them into an input of the algorithm. The output algorithms would be clicking on some other (may be same) patterns.
I want to make a multiplayer flash game- something very basic, like each person controls a dot which they can move around (doing this as a learning experience, not because it seems like a great concept for a game ). I'm pretty new to PHP and mySQL, and don't have a lot of experience in making flash apps that interact with outside scripts... and here's the approach i've thought up so far.i design the swf so that every 30th of a second or so it checks an xml file on the server (http:servernamedata.xml), and also sends a request to the server to run a php script and sends it four boolean values (which keys the player is pressing). The php script runs- it loads a mysql database which has each players x/y coordinates, adjusts those coordinates according to the bool (if player is pressing keys), resends the x/y coordinates to the mysql database, and generates an updated version of the xml, which the swf running on each players client computer will check to determine where to draw each dot.So to get to the point, what i want to know is:
1: is what i described even possible?
2: if it can be done, is this a good way to go about it or is it horribly innefficient (i eventually want to make games more complicated than moving dots around, and have as much code run server-side as possible to prevent hacking/cheating)
3: if this is a possible and OK way to do this, what sort of AS3 script do you use to make a flash app have a server execute a php script?
I'm trying to develop a simple Flash game using Actionscript 2 (I know its a bit dated, but its a simple project that doesen't benefict much from AS3), and I came up with an ideia of implementing an online leaderboard that records and shows the highscore of the player.
This isn't anything too complicated, but I seem to be having problem finding resources online that explain how I should implement this. All I want is a call, probably to a PHP/MySQL database that records the player's name (which will be recorded via a input window) and its current score. It would also have to show the best all time scores, by order. I should remind you that I am working on a Actionscript 2 so Actionscript 3 solutions are probably not going to work.
I'm developing a multi-player game and I know nothing about how to connect from one client to another via a server. Where do I start? Are there any whizzy open source projects which provide the communication framework into which I can drop my message data or do I have to write a load of complicated multi-threaded sockety code? Does the picture change at all if teh clients are running on phones?
I've been looking on the net for some time now (about 4 weeks on and off) and i've come across various ways of producing high score tables for both online and offline games. My query is:
Is it possible to produce a high score table for an online game using a document in the same location as the swf without using a PHP, SQL or any of the like languages? Either using a text document, xml, another swf or something else like that?
I'm, working on this pool game: [URL] open it in TWO browser windows you will see that the 2 player modus starts. When you make a shot, every shot gets copied to the other player. Unfortunately it is not precise enough. The player makes the shot with this code:
I'm making a platform game in AS3. I've sorted the left,right and jumping movement of my character - apart from one jumpingproblem:When the up arrow key is down it sets the jump var to true.ENTER_FRAME function detects when jump = true and it decreases thecharacters y position by the var velocity while at the same timedecreasing velocity by 1.5px. So my character jumps up to a certainheight then comes down - There is a hit test to stop heump/fall. BUT when the character falls off a platform he can still jumpwhen the up arrow is pressed. I've been racking my brains but I canstop the character from jumping if its falling.
I have a button that I would like to enable and disable a function within my game. The button is called "flashBang". I'm thinking this may need to be done with global variables to make the switch do this procedure. How would I go about scripting this variable? Also I want to be able to target this function during gameplay, if this function is enabled do this line of code - _root.gotoAndPlay("flash");
The code needs to fit somewhere in here i guess. //hitTest top + bottom wall if (_root.ball.hitTest(_root.topwall) or _root.ball.hitTest( _root.bottomwall)) { _root.yspeed = -_root.yspeed; _root.audio.gotoAndPlay("flash_bang");
I have this PHP page that lists several people. When someone clicks on one of the people they are sent to another PHP page that has their video greeting in a .swf embedded into the page. This works by the php writing the path to the greeting video to the xml file that the .swf loads and plays.
Well in firefox it works perfect, but in IE when they try to click on another greeting the original greeting still plays. Its like the swf is caching the first greeting and refresh of the page does nothing to alleviate this. Is this a problem with the swf caching? or XML caching? or am I totally clueless?
I've been searching on google and through forums for hours now trying to find a way to prevent my site from cache in browsers. I know it's not possible to "prevent" it from caching, but it's a way to trick the browser into thinking it needs to load the SWF again instead of just getting the one from the cache.
Now I've tried many types but I can't get it to work. I don't understand how to implement it into AS or Javascript and what goes where..
My site is set up by one parent SWF combined with a HTML script and 6 child SWF's, and they are updating all the time so I really need this function.
See it here: [URL]
The most used one is this I think or something close:

I have searched all over and have yet to find an answer to this. Does anyone know of a way to clear an FLV from the player's cache? I saw suggestions to add a query string to the end of the FLV location, but this causes the video to not play.
Is there way force the browser to retain previously viewed FLV files? I've noticed using the normal netstream set-up that even if you've fully loaded and viewed a video it will have to load it again from scratch each time you come back to it. Shouldn't the file be in the user's cache?
I need a way to stop XML files from caching. I have tried the xmlfile.load(file.xml?uniq=somerandomnumber) method, and it doesn't seem to be curing the problem. I understand that this can be stopped with PHP, however, I cannot use PHP for this task.XML caching is not a problem locally, only online, from the browsers, I cannot use any browser addons either as this file will be displayed to a vast audience and I can't expect anyone to;
a) get an add on
b) clear their cache everytime they want to see the file.
I am doing a flash that getting images from Database. Here is my problem, if I dont close my flash, Whenever I update the images in Database, flash doesnt update the image at the same time. (if I have the image at frame 1, then i go to frame 2, then i update Database, now i go back to frame 1 again, the image is not updated.) It seems like the Loader is caching the image. How can I update my image? Anybody knows why?
