ActionScript 2.0 :: Recognizing Within Main Timeline A Button Located Inside Externally Loaded .swf
May 13, 2005
I'm using the preloader like the one rhamej posted here:
[URL]
The part of the code I need help with is as follows:
[AS]
//fire the MovieClipLoader and attach the listener to it
var container1:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
container1.addListener(mclListener);
[Code].....
I realize the code is wrong. I wondered if it was possible after loading an external .swf ("1_movie.swf") within the container, if you could then press a button (enter_button) located within the external .swf ("1_movie.swf") , and use the preloader code to load another external .swf on release ("tree20.swf"). I'm having trouble because the preloader code is in the main timeline of my main flash file ("index.fla"), and I don't know how to make the preloader code recognize the button located within the external .swf, and use it to load another external .swf within the same movie clip.

I have been approached to design a configurator for a new television product. The Application will let users specify the colours of certain parts of the product and also attach addons, which then updates a cost total.
In the main interface i have a looping animation of the product slowly rotating around 360 degrees that i rendered in 3ds max. When a user clicks a button on the interface i need to load an external movieclip on top of the main animation so it looks as though a certain part has changed colour, this i have acheived. The problem is that when i load the external clip over the original, the loaded clip starts playing from frame 1 and i need it to inherit the playhead position of the main animation so the two layered pieces look as though they are rotating as one. I'm sure this must be possible, unless i need to approach the problem in a different way?

I'm having problem with communication between an MC running on frame 1 and a dynamic textfield located on the main timeline on frame2. The MC running on frame1 is a user and password login. I want to grab the username (variable) from the inputfield within the MC for use on frame2 ( dynamic text ) on the main timeline.

i've been trying to make a presentation which is build out of several animations located on the main timeline.I wanted to use frame labels to navigate back and forth in the timeline, so I created back/next buttons and used switch/case code on them based on the frame labels.each animation has a label and a stop(); command at the end of it, right before the next animation.the code for the next button looks like this:
next_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, click_handler);
function click_handler(event_object:MouseEvent)
{
[code]....
problem is at some point it stops working. i've added the "default: play();" code to try and fix it but it only goes so far.

I have a movieclip inside the OVER on a button, right now I have an animation that causes the button's brightness increases from 0 to 10 over 24 frames and then come stops because of a stop (). I now intend to add an animation after stop () which gets the button's brightness goes back to 0 again when you no longer hold the mouse over the button. I would therefore like to make some kind of mouseOut event that allows Movieclip go to the next frame. I have tried to insert a target path but it seems that it can't reach the movie clip inside the button.

I have a scrollPane on my stage, and I have a movieClip inside of it with a bunch of buttons. When you click on one of the buttons, I need it to gotoAndPlay a frame label on the main timeline. So far I cannot get this to work.

I'm having a bit of a hard time with calling a function in the main timeline through a button in a movieclip. The mc is in the main timeline and in it I added a button with this.removeMovieClip(); and so far it works, but when I try to call a function from the main timeline it just doesn't seem to work.

I have a movie clip on the main stage- inside that movie clip is a button- I want that button to contol a function on the main timeline-
example: Button Script
closeAll_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goCloseAll);
function goCloseAll(e:MouseEvent):void {
****don't know what to put here to activate "closeAllOpenMovieClips" function on main stage****
}
example: Main Stage Timeline Script
function closeAllOpenMovieClips():void { trek_mc.gotoAndStop(1); lost_arts_mc.gotoAndStop(1); rain_mc.gotoAndStop(1); vintage_mc.gotoAndStop(1);}
***don't know if I need more script on Main Stage Timeline that just "function" ***

I've created a movieclip with buttons inside that I want to use to navigate to different scenes on the main timeline. I have created a function() that loads the button movieclip into the main timeline, but if I try to write a function() to activate the button and move the main timeline to a different scene/frame label it doesn't work. I have tried various things:
navBack_mc.book_btn.onRelease = function() {
_root.gotoAndStop("book1");
}
I put the code above on the main timeline. It doesn't seem to work. Basically, I could put just an on(release) handler on the buttons, but I wanted to try to keeping all the AS in one place if I can.

I decided to rearange my flash site and now things don't work.I used to have an image collage where all the images were buttons and each image was located on the stage ( which made a stage with 10+ loose images)I made each image a button. Below is a code example for one of the images named "icysophistication_app_btn". The previously working code for it was:

I have a site that I'm working on that I am loading an external swf page into a main one. The main one is based on a totally liquid state and stretches the background to fill the browser and the components are relatively position based on browser window dimensions.
Now inside of the main swf I load an external swf through the loader command. This swf has a set dimension and stays centered in the stage.
I am trying to make a button in this swf that loads yet another swf that is stretches the full browser. However I do not know how to access the properties of a main swf from this external one, or if this is even possible.

I basically need to communicate to an externally loaded swf and send info back to main swf. Below is some sample code of what I am trying to achieve:
In the main swf:
var imgLoader:Loader = new Loader();
imgLoader.load(new URLRequest("external.swf"));
addChild(imgLoader);
var MC:MovieClip = imgLoader.content as MovieClip;
//var MC = MovieClip(imgLoader.content);
trace(MC)
MC.btn1.visible=false;
In the external swf:
btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,externalCli ck1);
btn2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,externalCli ck2);
function externalClick1(e:MouseEvent):void {
trace("external Click 1");
//main swf goto nextFrame;
} function externalClick2(e:MouseEvent):void {
trace("external Click 2");
// main swf goto PrevFrame;
}
The trace I have setup in the main swf, trace(MC) returns a null value.

I want to know if its possible and if so how, to stop the timer in an externally loaded swf from the main swf that's its loaded into.
Just to give a quick basic rundown of the set-up. There is the main swf which via a class called Img loads smaller swfs:
PHP Code:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Bitmap;
[Code].....
The _scr bit is a string which gets passed in that comes from an XML file with the source of the external SWF to load. In the SWF there are some actions that are dependent on a timer. From the main SWF I want to be able to turn the timer on or off.
Do I need to put a addEventListener in the external SWF file?

I've written a script that takes keyboard input to turn movieclips on and off in a swf file (like the visible/invisible layer function in photoshop). Then I'm attempting to load the *.swf (image.swf) into a zoom/pan flash file from flash den. When I load it in, the keyboard controls no longer work. I've tried importing the keyboard control function (keyDownListener) into the main zoom.fla with this script:
Code:
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
[code].....

I am trying to load multiple swfs (one at a time) using one loader and pause/play the loaded swfs using a button. I have gotten the swfs to pause/play, but all except for one will delete itself upon resuming. I made the loaded swfs in Captivate. Each Captivate swf is made up of multiple Flash swfs, each on its own slide. When the swfs delete, they only delete the currently playing slide's swf and then the next slide's swf will appear and play when the timeline advances to it (but will also delete if paused/resumed), but the playbar will show that the swf has been successfully paused and restarted and will continue along with no swf showing.
Here is a short version of my code (becuase the original has 8 swfs to choose from):
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}//HERE STARTS THE ATTACHMENT BUTTONS REFERENCING FROM THE mainMC
var ansaldoButton:DisplayObject =

I have a set of SWFs loaded, and have successfully added them to the stage, and can assign basic methods ( gotoAndPlay(), stop() etc..) based on MouseEvents. I can't quite figure out, however, how to assign methods based on frame number or label, triggered by labels on the currently playing SWF timeline. So, for example: externally loaded swf starts playing, and a listener is set up to listen for a "stop" label, which would activate stop();I can obviously just drop a stop(); in the timeline of the loaded swf, but I am really trying to banish all code from timelines, period.
I could set up a frame-based listener to decide if a label exists at the current frame, and then to evaluate if that frame label == "stop"... but that seems pretty messy, and because it has to run at every frame, CPU heavy...So - the question is really about listeners, I guess. What event would I listen for? Something like a MouseEvent - but ... a LabelEvent instead Obviously - this doesn't exist, but something like it would be perfect. tions scattered here and there isn't that big of a deal

I have a basic xml driven portfolio. The xml file holds the path to the portfolio pieces (external .swfs). I have a main navigation that moves from project to project and a subnavigation to view individual pages of that project.The subnav is where I have the problem, I simply want to call gotoAndPlay("framelabel") of the designated mc. It seems that you can no longer call to the timeline of child movieclips as you could with AS 2. I've found some examples Except the examples discuss access of nested movieclips on the stage with assigned instance names. But the problem I'm facing is that I have each item pulled in via the loader Class then the objects are pushed into an array and my subnav needs to access them dynamically via array notation.something like this:
PHP Code:
public function loadMe(){
//var l:Loader = new Loader();
[code].....

I`m a AS2 user, having a few problems getting adjusted to AS 3. What I want to do: In my stage I have 3 movieclips:
- Intro (frame 1)
- Main (2)
- End (3)
In the movieclip Intro i show some pictures etc, when it comes to the end, i want to go to the 2nd frame on the MAIN timeline. This used to be _root.gotoAndPlay("main"); using the hierarchy allways starting from _root or _level0. or _parent... I have tried searching but am not sure how to lookup this problem. I would be really happy if someone could post me a link how to address movieclips through other movieclips or starting from the root in AS3 and for the right code to use the function gotoAndPlay to go 1 frame further in the main timeline.

I'm loading an external SWF file to a container MovieClip (adding it as a child), but have the need to create a button over the loaded SWF.The external SWF should still respond to MouseOver events like it used to.
I tried adding the AS3 created button to the container MovieClip, but it wasn't visible anywhere (the position was right in the middle of the container). Obviously, the SWF shadowed it.
