Is there anyway I can run an install file from a flash site. I don't want it to be downloaded first. And if not how do I get the file to be downloaded. Something like the PC format Cd's have, where the programs install directly from the CD.

I have a flash site that I maintain very casually (just a hobby). But recently, after a fresh install of Windows on my laptop, I went to my site in IE and nothing would happen - it was just a blank, white page. I have since discovered it was because I needed to install ActiveX on my computer- after having done so, the page now works perfectly in IE. So my question is this: how can I prompt the user to install ActiveX if they haven't already when they go to my site? I made my site in Flash MX 2004 (super old, I know).

I have another application developed in Flex Builder 3 and a release build with the same installer has no problem.
Basically I created a flash site and uploaded it onto the server provider the client chose using cute ftp. That's all fine but now they want to add a link enabling the viewer to download a PDF straight to their desktop. As I can't upload a PDF file to the Flash library, was wondering if anyone had any tips on creating this function?

I'm making a flash portfolio site and learning as I go but have come across a bit of a road block.
I'm trying to allow people to click a button on my site and download my pdf resume. I've gotten it to open in a separate tab using "navigatetourl", but I'd like to also have a button which forces the download location prompt to appear.
I did Product catalog, it contents intro and supportive files (.swf) how to give non editable file to them. or it should ask to install to run this catalog but the supportive file should not visible and edit.

Unfortunately, it appears each time the file loops it calls another iteration of the xml file -- so if a user opens our homepage and walks away the xml file could be called 100s of times. My question is, can we set up the actionscript so the xml file is called just once?

View 7 RepliesI see that the background music in my Flash site is located in a symbol called muz When I click the properties of this symbol, the sound file's location is listed as.flashsoundmuz.wav I couldn't find that sound sub-folder in the flash folder nor could I find the file. I tried doing a search to look for the muz.wav file in my computer but it could not be found. Does anyone know how I can find and save this file?
View 3 RepliesI'm using the Flash CS4 IDE, and the first page of my site takes a lot longer to load than I want it to. So I wanted to go through the varied images / symbols / movie clips / sounds and so on to see where all the memory is being chewed up. When I go into my library, however, I can see the Name, LInkage, usecound and Type of my elements, but no mention of file size and I can't seem to find any right click menu that lets me add file size to the list of details being displayed. Is there a way to make it show file size? Or some workaround? And are there any best practices to reduce file size aside from using symbols for anything that's used more than once and reducing image and sound quality?
View 4 RepliesI'm starting a blog with a hosted wordpress instance and i would like to be able to stream music using a flash player on some posts.The problem is that every player i find uses a simple param to get the file url which makes it very easy for someone to find that url and just download the file.I know that it's probably impossible to prevent this all together, but i at least don't want it to be obvious.
View 4 RepliesI have an HTML page with buttons. Each button needs to have a getURL to open the Flash site, but then somehow, needs to also load the appropriate swf into that Flash site... My reasoning is because I have some scripts under my site that need to be in HTML (or PHP) for search engines, that way I don't have to do the whole site in HTML.. I hate having a HTML index page, but it's the only solution I could come up with. So, when a visitor selects any of the navigation buttons, I don't want them to have to select that button again, when the Flash site loads. how to do this for Flash 7 / AS 2.0? View 2 Repliesi have made a site in flash. stage size 955x600 i have exported it as fullscreen with no scale. the problem is that if i browse the site with a resolution of 800x600 (760x420 if i'm not wrong), the browser dont' add scrolls and its impossible to see the complete site. How can i fix this without resizing the site. i want the users to see with the proportions that i have now.. ijust want a scroll on the browser.

I have same troubles with Illustrator, Fireworks and Indesign... only into File -> File Info panel, I have trouble also with "fast view" (space bar) into all FLV files, they cannot preview nothing, just i see a - com.adobe.flv.. The reason why panels did not work properly was a missing Flash trust file for that user location. Without such a trust file the embedded flash player refuses to "play" .. but what mean?? I dont understand this.
I'm doing a test install before we update our old server to 4.03.I've got the server software installed and configured (4.03 server, using iis for web).All the test stuff on the sample index page works, except for the dynamic stream tab.I've eyeballed the .f4m file, and tried putting in a complete url to the samples...but no luck.i just keep getting the stock connection timed out message.
Where do i need to look to start confiriming where this issue may be coming from?I've made made sure I can reach all the test videos by making flash players for them, calling them via rtmp... no problems.It's got to be something dumb with either the f4m file, or the way it's being served (btw, i have added all the mime types to iis , including .f4m as video/mp4....which is one of two ways I've seen it added).

View 4 RepliesI'm NOT on Snow Leopard. MacPro, Intel, 4 gigs RAM. I did have Fireworks CS4 on my Mac, but it's all uninstalled. When I try to install the entire CS3 suite, Flash will not install. When I try to install Flash all by itself, it keeps asking for the Fireworks install CD, over and over, even though FW has been uninstalled. Then, ultimately, Flash doesn't install.I tried to run the CS3 cleanup script, but the terminal won't take my password. I ran the CS4 cleanup script after I uninstalled FW, but it said there was nothing to clean up.

I click on install>agreement>continue>run etc then a dialogue box says that it couldn't install as the disc is coorupt and contact Adobe for a new one? I get this message whenever I visit the Url above to install the flash player. I've used the utility to uninstall the application a dozen times with no luck. During the uninstallation process, I exited all applications and even restarted the computer before the attempting to reinstall.
There's a version out there that it is checking against either in registry or somewhere, where is it so I can remove it?
