View 7 RepliesI want to load some text data from a third party web site (I guess I need to use URLLoader) but everything I'm reading says the Flash player security will prevent this because it's coming from a different domain.isn't there any way around this? How else could a Flash RSS reader work - you can't possibly get all web site sources to include a cross-domain policy file. I would have to believe there must be some way to load text from an arbitrary URL.

I have a fla file which is loading external swf files from my local folders.I inserted some of the swf files to a web site and tried to load them from the site, not from my local folder...So it gave me a security error like below:

View 2 RepliesI brought my son a mini laptop for xmas that runs Windows CE , some of the websites he wants to go onto require "flash" , but when I try to install flash laptop says its not a valid Windows CE file.
Is it right that I need to install "flash lite" if so what version and where can I obtain it as I cant find download link on this site. If not is there any other way I can get these websites to work.
I am looking to build an app that allows end users to draw and save mini animations (simple predetermined shapes that move in 2D). So far I have a written a app that allows the user to draw a single frame using simple shapes and lines, but I am having some small troubles at this stage, and have not attempted to allow the user to animate or save the drawing.
If anyone knows of a tutorial or some other resource to put me on the right path I would be very grateful. I can also share what I have if anyone would be willing to give me some pointers

View 6 RepliesI have been creating mini product movies in Flash using sound recordings, key frames, and tweens. This is the 5th in the series, and just NOW I'm having problems.I had my frame rate set to 30fps with one long sound bite, about 2.5 minutes. Everything looked fine on my end, but when I loaded it into a landing page in IE, everything was out of sync, but only on other people's computers. It still looked fine to me.
I compressed the sound file more, which helped some, but did not aleviate the entire problem. I noticed the frame rate when I did a quick preview (just pressed enter) would fluctuate from the 30 fps all the way to 9 fps.I then cut the sound bite up into 13 segments,shortened the tweens, and reduced the frame rate to 18fps. In development and in preview, it looked fine. However, when I put it into the landing page, the animation was way too fast for the sound and the sound bites looped.

Once in a while it doesn't load the first time through on certain machines. Because of this the client has asked me to add a button to the site much like here...

The only problem with this is I need this button to "hide" once the site DOES load.
Other than using small files, what are some techniques used to load a site/swf faster?

I built a website in Flash (CS5/AS3) and published it to a .swf and .html file. I then uploaded to my host and tested. My site displays fine in Firefox and IE, but appears as an empty page when attempting to view in: The site will load, but isn't visible for me until I double click in the browser window or minimize/maximize the window... The site also loads fine if I access it through a hyperlink. This one's really got me confused! Any more ideas?

In the first panel AboutUs page with text I want modify it a little - I have a ready flash palyer and want change uploaded text to flv player movie (file preview.swf in the same folder)
Of course I need everything works tha same as default (when I'll click to close button - clear window with flv player, stop video and sound in flv player)

how to load files to a Flash site Dynamically from a remote server. The first part was showing how to load a .txt file.
I have created a dynamic test field and give it an instance name of myTextArea. Then I uploaded the .txt file to my server in a testing folder. At the beginning of the paragraph in the .txt file I put homeText= Then going back to Flash CS3 I made an Action Script layer and entered the following code there;

But when I go to test the movie I get a "undefined" error (I guess it is an error) where the text should load in the dynamic text field.

I would told that the onClipEven(data) would give me this option. So I thought I said that when it's loaded go and play frame 6 of the main time line.My external movie works fine, and it has a preloader, just want the main timeline to wait till that movie is loaded to start to play again

That's all fine but now they want to add a link enabling the viewer to download a PDF straight to their desktop. View 1 RepliesI'm pretty new/bad at actionscript (3) for web. I have a site up for a client/friend [URL], but it takes FOREVER to load. I'm under the impression that a good way to make the site load faster is to load in swf's externally. Right now, the site, in its entirety, is one big movieclip. I have large images (movieclips) for background images. If you look at the site and are kind enough to wait for it to load (aprox. 45 seconds or so) you will notice how the background image changes when you click to go to each section.
I am trying to find a way to load in the background as external .swf's to cut down on the initial load time. I'm also open to any other ideas. Below is the as3 code for my buttons/how they direct the site. I'm hoping to use a similar/generic style to load the background images. I'm hoping to load the movieclips underneath the rest of the site, and use the same naming scheme (e.g. homeBTN.swf) to keep it organized.

Where a user can navigate some menus to view pictures, plus in addition to have a button which will load up a PDF file So in simple terms, user inserts cd, user then loads up the flash file, navigates to a button, then clicks the button which loads up the pdf which is also on the cd I have seen many threads about this, but I still cant get this to work. Despite my countless attempts, I must be missing something. Which is why I ask if someone could answer in a term so that even someone whos never used flash? Would understand and be able to follow the instructions I need instructions in simple steps, from the moment my pc boots up, and ending up with me being able to double click the flash file and see it working.

I have a button when I click on it it is suppose to load an external swf into a empty movie clip. But everytime I clicked it, it juz loops the whole flash animation of this very whole flash the button is currently in which it should actually load the external swf to the empty MC. I can't attack my file here since it is too big.

I'm making a flash portfolio site and learning as I go but have come across a bit of a road block.
I'm trying to allow people to click a button on my site and download my pdf resume. I've gotten it to open in a separate tab using "navigatetourl", but I'd like to also have a button which forces the download location prompt to appear.
