May 21, 2004I would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.

I've taken out the new javascript embed code, just to make sure that wasn't messing things around, but to no avail.

If I hard code the php file with the values listed above, everything works perfectly. But I'm using a php script that checks the directory for images, then provides that output.

1) I can't figure out how to have URL links in the text that loads.
2) How can I make the scroller refresh to allow for new text in the dynamic text area. The content changes alright, but the scroller stays in the same position and if it wasn't needed initially, the scroller disappears and doesn't return on new text.

Jan 12, 2007Basically I have a photography site that I update regularly with client images and new information, but me and flash doesn't exactly get on! I bought a flash template and have spent about a month fiddling about and slowly learning how flash works, and my knowledge of flash (non-existant) has shot up dramatically, but there are still things that baffle me. Feb 17, 2010how to make buttons play movie clips in a particular area when I press a button however I'm trying to make the jump up higher.
I have 3 menu items with 3 movie clips loaded just beneath the menu Items. However my first problem is, how do I hide content or even better, only play certain movies when a button is released?
At the moment the code for a button I use is:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Make The Site Load Faster Is To Load In Swf's Externally
Mar 16, 2011I'm pretty new/bad at actionscript (3) for web. I have a site up for a client/friend [URL], but it takes FOREVER to load. I'm under the impression that a good way to make the site load faster is to load in swf's externally. Right now, the site, in its entirety, is one big movieclip. I have large images (movieclips) for background images. If you look at the site and are kind enough to wait for it to load (aprox. 45 seconds or so) you will notice how the background image changes when you click to go to each section.
I am trying to find a way to load in the background as external .swf's to cut down on the initial load time. I'm also open to any other ideas. Below is the as3 code for my buttons/how they direct the site. I'm hoping to use a similar/generic style to load the background images. I'm hoping to load the movieclips underneath the rest of the site, and use the same naming scheme (e.g. homeBTN.swf) to keep it organized.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Make A Single Mouseover For An Area Which Controls Buttons Inside It?
Dec 31, 2007I have a 400x300 area that needs to detect a rollover and animate several buttons, text fields, etc. sliding into it when the mouse rolls into the area so that they can be manipulated, and animate them sliding out when the mouse rolls out of the area to hide them from view. What is the best way to do this? The only way I have got it to work so far is by using a listener to track mouse position, but it's not reliable since you can move the mouse quickly in some areas of the movie and the listener doesn't catch it.

Mar 6, 2012I just got the trial of Flash Cs5 and haven't used Flash since MX back in 04-06. Having an issue with buttons now in context of a scrolling text area. My code is set up as such:

Where up is the button to scroll upwards and down is...(you guessed it). Maintext is the movieclip in which my text is which each frame being the text "scrolled" further. My issue IS: This was working just fine UNTIL I added "Over", "Down", and "Hit" frames into my buttons (whereas previously they were just single frame arrows), and then when previewing my flash the cursor doesn't even recognize the buttons as such, and nothing happens if you click on either... If I got back and delete the over, down, and hit frames, BOOM, problem goes away. This seems very strange to me, I never had a problem like this in MX.

Aug 23, 2007So I am trying to load variables from a .php file into a movie clip and then plug in those variables to various fields and for some reason its not working...so heres whats going on...(this is for the staff page for my church)
In the primary timeline we have this line...
loadVariables("./middleware/staff.php?id=" + staffID,
staff_panel, "GET");
We are loading the variables into the movie clip which contains our various fields...the value for staffID is created in the previous frame when the user click on that person's icon, we know for sure that this is being passed correctly to this frame, because I have a text box in the main timeline which displays the number.
The resulting string from the .php file looks like this...
staffNameE=Jason+Webb&staffTitleE=Lead+Pastor&staffDescE=Jason's+bio+g oes+here...&picLoader=./images/staff_pics/jwebb.jpg&staffEmail=webmast er@brooklife.org
Within the movie clip that the variables are being loaded into we have this....it loops till the var load is done and then writes the information to the fields...

Jul 28, 2009i have a drop down menu am working on and each button tab (although they are not button instances !) when clicked opens up the "drop down" section which you can mouse over to choose another specific button etc - if you mouse out of that drop down area then it pulls back up to the original tab state .. what do i change to the code below to decrease the area that you mouse out of to make the drop down area pull back .....at the moment it at least two inches on the screen below and to the right of boundaries of the drop down box before it pulls up - i want to it pull up as the mouse leaves the boundary box .... hope this makes sense .... there is some part of the actionscipt below that controls this but can work out which bit and how to change it !!! (am guessing the x mouse and y mouse bits - but how to change it ???)
