Oct 15, 2009i used to dabble with flash a while ago and just getting back into it, i remembered there was a piece of action script that allows you to turn a box into something like a window that would load the text from a notepad file in the same directory as the .swf so once the .swf file has been uploaded and you want to change the text all you need to do with change the text in the notepad file.

1) I can't figure out how to have URL links in the text that loads.
2) How can I make the scroller refresh to allow for new text in the dynamic text area. The content changes alright, but the scroller stays in the same position and if it wasn't needed initially, the scroller disappears and doesn't return on new text.

May 21, 2004I would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.

It loads absolutely fine when I test the movie from my computer, but when I upload it and embed it onto an html page, all of the dynamic text refuses to load. Jun 1, 2010I cant load and external text file into my dynamic text box...when i trace the loaded var it can be found, but when it's loaded inside the text box, the value that appears is really strange.i tried to load the vars into the MC and on a level, the result is the same, it can be traced but does not appear correctly on the textbox..the code i used is here..i made a text box with about_us instance name, loaded the variables and tried to load my text inside it by setting the text property of the textbox but as u will see...

Currently, I have up and down arrows to scroll the text, but I would like to have an actual scrollbar instead since there is a lot of text in some of the sections. I can make the scrollbar work just fine if I put the text in the first frame, but whenever I set it up to call on text files, then the scroll bar won't work. Obviously, I'm pretty new at Flash. I've attached an FLA with the text box.

Nov 6, 2009Basically, my whole website's going to be in Flash, but I want to be able to update one page (sort of a news/blog page) without having to edit the Flash file every time. I'm assuming the easiest way to do this would be to set up either a scroll pane or a text box and pull the text in from a .txt file. That way I could continue to add on to the .txt file, and Flash would always pull in the current version. So, my issues are:
1. I have no idea where to start with the code for something like that. Is it a LoadVar? Do I physically put a scroll pane or a text area in the frame and put the action on that, or do I put the action on the frame and have it call up a text area component?
2. Will the text scroll automatically, or is that something else I would have to add in? I plan on adding to this text file for awhile, so it could end up being a lot of text over time.
3. Would I be able to format the text in the .txt at all? For instance, if I hit enter to put in a paragraph break, would that register once it's pulled into Flash, or would I have to put in an html paragraph break or something? That may be a dumb question, but as I said, I'm not exactly fluent in ActionScript (or any other programming language for that matter).

Aug 23, 2007So I am trying to load variables from a .php file into a movie clip and then plug in those variables to various fields and for some reason its not working...so heres whats going on...(this is for the staff page for my church)
In the primary timeline we have this line...
loadVariables("./middleware/staff.php?id=" + staffID,
staff_panel, "GET");
We are loading the variables into the movie clip which contains our various fields...the value for staffID is created in the previous frame when the user click on that person's icon, we know for sure that this is being passed correctly to this frame, because I have a text box in the main timeline which displays the number.
The resulting string from the .php file looks like this...
staffNameE=Jason+Webb&staffTitleE=Lead+Pastor&staffDescE=Jason's+bio+g oes+here...&picLoader=./images/staff_pics/jwebb.jpg&staffEmail=webmast er@brooklife.org
Within the movie clip that the variables are being loaded into we have this....it loops till the var load is done and then writes the information to the fields...
