Actionscript 3 :: Make An Item In A Flex List Control Not Selectable?

Jan 12, 2010

Is it possible to make an item in a List control not selectable? If so, how would this be accomplished?

I've tried one thing so far. What I did was use a custom item renderer that checks for a value in the data property upon a FlexEvent.DATA_CHANGE event. If that value is not set, I tried setting the item renderer's selectable property to false. This, unfortunately, does not seem to work.

Im building a program that queries a database for options and displays the options in a number of comboBoxes. The comboBoxes are dynamically built and loaded via code and added to the stage. ActionScript 2.0 :: Compression Options For Dynamic Loading MCs?

Jul 12, 2006

I'm stuck on this one problem, and I'm not sure how to solve it. I have a "main" movie. When I click a button in the "main" movie, I am dynamically loading a separate .SWF file (ex: "zoom1.swf") into a "container" MC on the "main" movie stage.

The separate Zoom1.SWF file is a zoom-in animation that has been rendered in 3d, and each frame has been converted to a JPG and brought into flash. (So basically i'm trying to have it so when you click on the button, the view zooms in to what you clicked on).

Since I have around 20-30 frames for this animation, the size of this new Zoom1.SWF is like 500kb. This is obviously WAAAY too big to load on the fly (even with "swonking"), and I will be loading about 5 of these movies separately at different times.

I started out using JPGs that were 50% of the size of my flash movie, and then scaled them up to 200% on the stage. I've already compressed the JPGs down a lot and they've already lost a lot of quality. I can't take any more frames out of the animation, because it's already too choppy and not smooth. How can I deal with the file size of these zoom-in movies? What are my options for compression or any other techniques to reduce file size?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamic List Of Links

May 8, 2011

I'm currently working on a flash website. On the homepage I'd like to incorporate a dynamic list of links similar to the one found in the main content area of URL.. (you will need to visit this site for my post to make any sense)Due to my low level of experience, I do not expect myself to accomplish this in the near future, however I would like to work towards it. What i'm looking for are pointers of what areas of AS3 I should begin researching to achieve this?

- The links are taken from an XML file, and the site is updated through this.

- When a new link item is added to said XML file, they're pushed into an Array.

- The position of the object in this array is somehow referenced in the XML file, and this provides the appropriate link.

- There is some sort of conditional statement that sees if the link added is text or an image, and based on this a different tween is used for the rollovers/outs etc of each link.

- There is a maximum character limit set to each page of links, and when it is exceeded the links are pushed to the next page, and the dynamic text is updated accordingly, specifying # of links etc.

Is there a more efficient way to go about creating a list similar to the one found on ogilvy.com?just pointers on where I should start in building this sort of application.

ActionScript 3.0 :: XML Video Playlist Using Dynamic Text Instead Of UI List?

Jul 10, 2009

I've watched the tutorial on how to build an XML Video Playlist using the UI List Component. I'm wondering if there's a way instead to use a dynamic text box, or some other solution that doesn't require a component. I have a video object and a dynamic text box that successfully loads a videolist.xml file, and displays the contents (title, location, date) for each <video> node, separated by line breaks. Now I'd like to make the contents of each <video> node a link, which loads a new movie into the player. If this can't be done with a dynamic text box, can it be done some other way, not involving the use of a component?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Column - Drag Item Out Of List?

I can handle the drag and drop part of it, but I'm confused on how I could get the remaining column of items to dynamically move up depending on which item is taken out. I'm thinking maybe along the lines of an array? And I also suppose each item will have to be loaded in.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Swapping Display List Position For Dynamic Movie Clips

Jun 17, 2011

I have a difficult question to explain. I have a class file that loads an external XML file, parses the main nodes into an array, then creates a movie clip instance for each of the main nodes and creates text fields inside of the movie clip instance based on the child nodes in the XML.

Each movie clip instance that is added dynamically has a movie clip embedded in it that acts as a tab. I update the dynamic text of this embedded movie clip based on the name of each main XML node.

Now where I am getting stuck is that I have attached an event listener to each tab movie clip that is inside of each dynamically created movie clip. What I want to do is when the user clicks this tab have that movie clip move to the top of the display list on top of all the other dynamically created movie clips. My problem is that I don't know how to get the references correct.

When I create the movie clips dynamically I store the objects in an array. The problem appears to be that the event is fired for a movie clip inside of the dynamic movie clip so I don't know how to reference the parent movie clip. Maybe it is something else but I don't know how to make reference to the main movie clips that I want to swap.

I hope that makes sense. My main question is how do I use the swapChildren or setChild functions when the movie clip clicked is located within the movie clip I want to change in the display list as well as the fact that this movie clip was created dynamically.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Multiple Buttons Create List In Dynamic Text Field

Nov 4, 2010

I have created an organizational chart for the company I work for displaying all current employees. Each contact is shown as a button that displays a 'popup' window on rollover. All of this works perfectly. What I want is to create an option to click on each button and the individuals email address be added to a dynamic text field at the bottom of the page.

Just to clarify, I am able to have text entered into the text field on each click, however, clicking on the next button removes the previous text. I want each click to create a new entry in a list. For example: "contact1; contact2; contact3;" etc etc. The end result would be for the user to copy all text (email addresses) from the dynamic text box and paste it into their Outlook "To" section.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A Navigation Scheme With A Dynamic List Of Movieclips That Cycles?

Nov 10, 2008

I need to create a navigation scheme with a dynamic list of movieclips that cycles, the user being able to cycle through the list left or right seamlessly. For example, say there are 12 items in the list, and at any given time three of them are to be displayed, with the center one being the focus/selected item. If the user clicks on the center/focus item, it takes them to a page, no trouble. If they click on the one to the left of the focus item, the list slides right, with the clicked one becoming the new center, focus item.

So, now say that the three visible items are 10, 11, and 12 in our array. If the user clicks on number 12, the list will slide left, with number 12 becoming the focus, and the goal would be to have item number 1 become the new, right-most item in the display - thus, the visible three would be 11, 12, 1. If the user then clicked on one, the cycle would continue, making number 1 the focus and the visible items would be 12, 1, 2. This should work seamlessly at both extremes of the list.

So in one instance, I have created a single movieclip that contains all of the items in the list, plus four extra at the end, to allow the appearance of seamlessness; when the user got to the end, the entire clip jumped to the start. This works, more or less, but it's clunky and I need to find a better way.
