ActionScript 2.0 :: Set Textbox Contents - Display Certain Values Depending On What Frames Are Being Played
Jun 16, 2006
I'm just trying to have a textbox on my main stage display certain values depending on what frames are being played. So having not done actionscript in a LONG time, I would assume is it something like this:

I am just a rookie in Flash, and came across a problem. I'm trying to create a flash movie that will display time like a TV ident does. I've successfully set it up to get the correct time and play a "tik-tok" sound as each second passes. However, it is to have some background music, and I can't get it to start when I need it - for instance, if the time is 18:00:00 it should start at 00 seconds, it time is 18:00:21 it should start at 21 seconds etc. This is the script I used for ticking:
[Code]...
What should I use for the complex situation as described above? My only guess is that I should sync it to the frames in the background video (behind the clock, running at 24 FPS), but I haven't got a clue how to set that up as well. Can someone please help? If necessary I can upload the .fla file.

I've developed a preloader for an ActionScript 3 application that uses URLLoader to load an encrypted swf. This has been tested on different OSs, Flash Players and browsers and everything works as expected except for a series of PCs being used by a colleague on a corporate network. The PCs at fault use Flash Player 10.0.22.87 with IE6 on WinXP and get security sandbox error #2048 depending on the contents of the file being loaded! Some of the tests and results include:removing 99% of the contents but keeping first 6k (works)replacing contents with 4 bytes 00 (works)inserting 16 bytes: EF BB BF <html></html> at beginning of file (works)inserting 16 0s at the beginning of the file (fails)xor FF all bytes (fails)I've tried other tests such as different file extensions, Security.allowDomain(), crossdomain.xml, Security.loadPolicyFile(), dataFormat = URLLoaderData Format.BINARY etc but I think these are all irrelevant due to the fact that the app sometimes works.The code is just the standard new URLLoader(), adding event listeners, then calling load(new URLRequest()). The test app doesn't include the loadBytes() so this isn't the issue either.
The PC at fault could be behind a firewall or using a proxy. At this stage my only theory is that their antivirus, firewall or proxy is examining the contents and sometimes decides to intervene, perhaps with a redirect. This would also explain why (according to the web server logs) the files are being requested even though the security sandbox error is generated. However, this does not explain why Flash generates the error in the first place, depending on the contents.It's not possible for me to visit on site or get them to modify their settings or configuration, but I can ask them to run various Flash Apps for testing.URL...I can come up with a workaround (such as ensuring the file always starts with dummy <html> tags and then strip them before decrypting), but I'd prefer to get to the bottom of this issue if possible to be confident it won't occur again; this is for a Facebook application so it's possible it will be used in a large variety of environment

I have 25 textboxes on stage. I am using a for loop to point to each textbox and evaluate the contents. When I come across a textbox that has the letter "Y" in it I want to place a object called colorbox at a certain location. To do this I have created a variable called tf. When I trace this variable outside of my if statement it correctly shows the contents of the current box, however within my if statement it doesn't. Also the colorbox doesn't get placed at the designated coordinates and I get the following error message:
1176: Comparison between a value with static type flash.text:TextField and a possibly unrelated type String.
for(var i:uint = 1; i < 2; ++i)
{
var tf:TextField = TextField(getChildByName("sw" + i));
trace (tf.text)

I have 31 squares on stage named square1-31. Each square is defined as a movieclip. . Each square has a textbox within it named txtbox1-31. I also have an object in my library called marker.I am using a for loop to cycle through the squares. I need to evaluate the contents of each textbox in each movieclip and if it is not empty, addChild an object to the current square location. So far my cod is not working as AS3 doesn't recognize the name of my textboxes or their locations.

I am loading the external movie, "1.swf" into my main stage. Is there a way that once "1.swf" has loaded, I can trace its timeline and when the playhead reaches the last frame, trigger an action? (load "2.swf").
"1.swf" was created by a 3rd party and I do not have the source files, so I have no way of adding actionscipt to it.

I want to check the contents of 25 textboxes on stage. Each textbox is embedded inside of a movie clip. Using the counter on a for loop I want to cycle through all 25 textboxes and if they have text in them, i want to place an object overtop of that movie clip . For this example I will only use 3 movieclips, each containing a textbox. The movieclips are named mov1, mov2 and mov3 and the textboxes within them are named text1,text2 and text3
for(var i:uint = 1; i < 4; ++i)
{
var xloc="mov"+i.x
var yloc="mov"+i.y

I've got a movieclip with a blank dynamic textbox inside. On frame 1 of this movieclip, I have the actionscript to load the contents of an external .txt file into the dynamic textbox. The problems are:
1. I have an <img> tag in the external .txt that doesn't work (actually, the text does wrap around where the img is supposed to be in the dynamic textbox, but the img itself is not appearing.
2. All <p> tags don't work, but <br> does.
3. I have an ampersand (&) in the .txt file and all text is cut off at that point when loaded into the dynamic textbox. I've tried escaping it (&) and using & to no avail.

I have five images on five different frames in my example. I always want to display the first two images (frames 1 and 2), but only show 3, 4 or 5 depending on the current month.
If it is January, I want to display frame 3 and then loop back around to frames 1 and 2. If February, frame 4 and loop back to frames 1 and 2, etc.
Right now I'm just testing it with a "4" for the month hard-coded in and it just plays the whole slideshow.
So, I have the following actionScript for frame 3:
stop();
var theDate;
var month;
var month_frame;

I setup this conditional statement. My intention was that if the object
foot_mc was on point0_mc then it will go to frame 5
OR
if foot_mc was on point1_mc it will go to frame 10....
function Oncheck(evt:MouseEvent):void{
if(foot_mc == point0_mc) return;{
gotoAndStop(5);
} if(foot_mc == point1_mc) return; {
gotoAndStop(10);
} if(foot_mc == point2_mc) return; {
gotoAndStop(15);
}}
I get no errors but it will always go to frame 15. Instead I want it to go to the selective frames depending on where foot_mc is...

I know this can't be to hard too achieve, but my actionscript skills aren't quite up to it yet.
- I have 5 frames within a MC.
- In this MC there is text saying "center", "left", "right", "up", "down" on each frame.
- All I want to be able to do is make the MC change to frame 3 "right" when my mouse moves to the right of the MC.
I know the script below is wrong, but would it go something like, this. Would I have to use angle and math or is there a simpler way to achieve this?
onClipEvent (mouseMove)
get x position
get y position[code]......

I have started to use input texts and passing them to outputs etc.I was wondering, is there a way in AS2, to, for example if someone enters a value that's between 150 and 200. Accepts it, and the code somehow recognizes the range if value from 150 to 200, perform a function (for example setProperty on something to visible true) a different function would apply if someone enters a value between 100 to 150.

I'm pretty new to AS3, using Flash (CS3) to build applications for my university degree. In my movie I've got an array (completionArray) with 7 values, which are set to all be "false". What I'd like to be able to do is use the contents of this array to switch GUI elements on and off.As an example, I've got a movie clip called cowItem on the stage. I'd like to use the first value in the array to set the .visible property of that movie clip, but I can't for the life of me work out how to get it to work.[code]Like I say, I'm new to AS3 and haven't tried using variables as part of a property before, and I also have a similar problem using variable values as part of a method call.

There are 5 "price" textboxes on a particular frame. On a separate frame someone chooses an item and it populates those textboxes. What I want to do is be able to add together all of the "price" textboxes to populate the "total" textbox. I have tried parsing each textbox as an integer and then making a function to find the total and populate the "total" textbox but this just isn't working. It still has the value of 0 when I export. If I try parsing as a number it gives me a NaN value.

I made this drawing application:Too train my AS knowladge. You can resize the window and the objects should stay fixed to the corners. UseyouMousewheel/scroller to resize the brush.Now what I would like to do is ad a text box to enter hex values to change the color.And a text box to display current color.I cant quite figure out how to tie the two together though. I tried giving the input text a instance and then just using that instance = my variable for color. But it didnt work out, I've really just been guessing as I didnt find a guide on it.Heres the code if anyone is intrested:
Code:
// starting setup
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";

I want to identify specific strings in a text box from user input to add to a score variable, like so -
[Code]...
The example given adds 1 to the score, but if a user adds a space then a second word the text box views it as a whole and not individual words, resulting in no values added to the score variable.The problem lies with the whole text box being viewed as one entire string. Instead, I want to split it up so word1 will add 1 to the score, word2 will add 1 to the score, etc.

I have a project where I want to display a certain movieClip based upon what variable was set earlier. I have 5 different MovieClips that need to display depending on variables.
I have the variable set and working, but how can I script this to make it that if a certain variable say Var1 is set, then it chooses to display Var1_mc?
Can I just have it load the correct one, or do I just have it change the alpha setting of the correct one?

I thought the higher the depth number the closer to the viewer it was? I have created a movie which pulls back info from a database, on the original movie, once all the data was loaded, I created the required number of dynamic text boxes on the _root and everything worked perfectly. I then decided that I would need to display other information on other movie clips. So I decided to turn the movie into a movie clip, so that I could create other movie clips and load these as needed. I created a new blank movie, attached a blank movieclip (depth 0) as a container for the movie clips that will hold the different data.
I then used attachMovie(depth 1) to attach the original movieclip, which holds the database info. I then changed the original movie, so that it would create the text boxes in this movie clip(depth 3), so that when I decided to load another movie, I don't have to clear up text boxes on the root. When I run the movie, I get the background image for the data movie clip, but I don't see the text. I used trace to make sure that the text boxes were being created and the text values were assigned and they are. So why can't i see the text?

The author shows a function that is supposed to trace the contents of any display object. In his example file he has several nested movie clips on the stage and everything works just as it should, this is the code.
ActionScript Code:
function showChildren(dispObj:DisplayObject):void {
for (var i:uint = 0; i < dispObj.numChildren; i++) {
var obj:DisplayObject = dispObj.getChildAt(i)
[code]....
The problem I am having is that when I open a new actionScript 3 .fla and try to recreate the nested movie clips and use the same code I get these errors:
ActionScript Code:
line 3 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method getChildAt through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
var obj:DisplayObject = dispObj.getChildAt(i)
line 2 1119: Access of possibly undefined property numChildren through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
for(var i:uint = 0; i < dispObj.numChildren; i++){

Seems like something easy, but I don't see it in the docs. If I have a movieClip or sprite that is 200x200, and I generate an object that is 300x300 and add it as a child of the original mc, how do I clip the bounds so that I don't see content outside of the original mc? Do I have to create and apply a mask?
