ActionScript 2.0 :: Text File Load Into Flash Double Linebreak
Jan 14, 2010
I want to load external text into Flash via txt file. That works fine except for 1 problem: when I put a linebreak in my txt file, it will show a double linebreak in Flash![code]...
I got this contact form where you can enter your email, subject and namebut my problem is the message part..you can type in the message, but it goes on 1 straight line. pressing Enter doesn't work. but It's also not going automaticaly, while the txt box is no bigger than ex. 150 x 200.
I have 6 input texts on stage and I want to compare this to an array with the right answers, so far so good. The problem came when even if I put the right answer it considered it bad. After some hours and thanks to the debug, I managed to see that a line break was being added to the value of the input text only when I clicked on it to type, if I enter the input text by tapping the "tab" key, everything works just fine.The input texts are named r0 to r5, here is the comparison code:
I've written some code that takes user input and adds it to some other static text which is then sent to php to be written to a text file. The file is just plain text but has the .xml extension so it can be used as a source of data. Because of the XML content the text has to contain quotes so I am looking for ways to escape the double quote characters with " or using the alternative method of using a mixture of double and single quotes to differentiate content I want in the text file and the quotes that define the boundary of the text string. The code is working but the resultant XML looks wrong, with double quotes being written as " even though I used the double/single quote method, so I'm a bit baffled why this is happening. Here's my code:
[Code]...
All the double quotes are being written as " which is the escape character instead of the actual character - anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it?
I know of some of the workarounds to prevent the double line spacing when reading dynamic text files.
The 'oll line 1 line 2 line 3
[code]....
Anyway...I know that you can type the text in Word and then save it as plain text with the CR/LF changed into either CR or LF.For me it works fine and so will it for most of you.I'm writing a website for a firm who has someone to update the textfiles the site is reading. She is cute, but I want to make the darn thing fool proof of course. So isn't there a way to read the text file, search for double linefeeds and skip it before it is placed into the textframe? Just to tell her to type the info into notepad and then WYSIWYG? (It's going to be code-free, so no bold, italics etc.)
how to do a full screen with flash when the swf file is double clicked? i have a 800x600 movie....when i double click the swf file...i want it to go fullscreen....like the flash stays 800x600 and the rest of the space on the screen is black.....like those new autorun interactive cds....and no toolbars are visible...just the flash and the black space in full screen....
I have added a menu to my game, and now certain text for the game does not appear unless I quickly double click the text field. Everything non-text works. The Sidebar is an instance of Sidebar movieclip which has two text fields that I added in the flash IDE, both with correct instance names. I have embedded my fonts, and tracing the text of the textField gives the correct number, without any return lines or whitespaces. The "double click shows text" is only for my countdown time.
My other score text field does not display no matter what, not even the text I set in the flash IDE. The only thing I can think of why is maybe flash stops rendering it because I have another menu movieclip that I set the alpha to 0 on stage that might overlay the text fields, however removing the menu movieclip does not fix the problem. Right clicking on the text field, select all, copy, paste gives the correct number.
Here's the fla + as files with only the code for the text fields: [URL]
I would like to if someone to know why i have so big delay in my flash main file when I go to test the preloading bar with duble control enter... I have enable the status report file in flash wich say to me was I load a class (AS 3.0 Classes Export Frame) but i dont link any class in my file..
I'm trying to load text from a xml file into flash. Thats working fine only problem is I want to load all of the data into flash. Right now it's only loading the first "node"??.

I know to load text file to flash. How do I do the same thing with an XML file? I have absolutley no idea how to use XML. I just want standard text, nothing Flashy.
How do I wait for an external .txt file to load in ActionScript 3? If I use URLLoader, I have no guarantee that the file has loaded, since it dispatches an event when it's complete. I'm calling the loader function from another class, so I can't simply stick the next actions into the event listener.
how to save and load .txt files using flash? like let's say i want to make my program so that when the user(s) get onto my website that they can save a .txt msg. and then they want, they can re-load this value from the .txt (it doesn't have to be a .txt file, i just figured that would be trhe easiest way) also i need this information to be saved onto the server. how can i do this? Like do i need Side Script? (and if i do what is that?)
I follow this turtoliar Loading External Texts into Flash Using the LoadVars() Class
Everything works great it load the txt file but the problem is that if i insert a lot of text inside in txt file and open the flash it load only some lines and the it cut them.
I made an effect in swish and i saved it in to an swf file i want to load that swf file in to my flash movie in the middle in which i have some text's and pictures
I have a rotaing menu that loads in images from an xml file, I would also like it to load in text info from the same xml file to the left side of the images that load in. In my main .fla have created a movieclip and called it 'textInfo' and inside that I have two dynamic text fields called 'headerText' and 'bodyText' where I want to load the text in. this is what I am using to loading in the text in my actionscript, is this correct?
Im trying to trace the contents of a multiline TextField, line per line.Unfortunately Flash puts a linebreak after every line that needs to be removed.Therefore Im using a regular expression.[code]So if I would only trace the line after the regular expression it looks like this:[code]Why does the for loop skip on and off ?
I have the folowing codo to load text from a text file into a text field in my flash document:
loadVarsText = new loadVars(); loadVarsText.load("homePage.txt"); loadVarsText.onLoad = function(success) {

I'm having some problems with the XML/FLASH Photo Gallery Tutorial ([URL]). When I load the swf file into another movie the dynamic text will not display. Any thoughts to why this is happening.

i want to load variable from text file to my main movie (swf file).what should i put in the second parameter of the function loadVariables ("target" parameter) - should i insert _this? _parent? _global? (nothing works.
It seems any type of linebreak within an <LI> tag create an extra bullet?The following examples all produce 2 bullets when they should only show one...
I'm using Flash 8 and I'm trying to load new text into a dynamic text box already populated by a xml file.
I have a home page with 5 different buttons on the top menu.
1. Home 2. News 3. Tips and a few more.
Upon my home page loading, I have a dynamic text box with the welcome text which is populated by my xml file, here is my code for AS2:
function loadXML(loaded) { if (loaded) { _root.home = this.firstChild.childNodes[0].childNodes[0]; _root.tips = this.firstChild.childNodes[1].childNodes[0];
[Code].....
What I want to do is load the news and tips text into the same dynamic text box on the home page when the news or tips button is clicked, so I don't have to load a whole new swf for each category thus making the site faster.
What code would I have to use to clear the text from the xml file and how would I load my new text upon clicking the button?
I cant load and external text file into my dynamic text box...when i trace the loaded var it can be found, but when it's loaded inside the text box, the value that appears is really strange.i tried to load the vars into the MC and on a level, the result is the same, it can be traced but does not appear correctly on the textbox..the code i used is here..i made a text box with about_us instance name, loaded the variables and tried to load my text inside it by setting the text property of the textbox but as u will see...
I can load the text from a text file till later in my movie. i have 8 different areas of information but there is no text shown in the last two even though the actionscript is identical. the link is [URL] i can add the fla this is the gist of the actionscript given to me:
am setting up a webpage with Flash MX. On the homepage I have a dynamic text box with links to the left (currently the links are just typed words). We want it to setup so that when a user clicks a link (such as "HOME") it will access text from a .txt file and load it into the dynamic text box. We want all of the links ("HOME", "PERSONNEL", "RECRUITS", "CONTACT US") to load their text from a seperate .txt file into that same dynamic text box.
I just want to load a .swf file withing my current .swf file as per the value the external text file.I have done few experiments too.
1) I have writter below code on the first frame of my movie. here "myMC" is my target movie clip inside which i want to load another swf file. load Variables("myData.txt", "_root.myMC");
2) the code of my external text file is as below sm=one.swf;Now my doubt is where and how i should write the loadmovie command to load my swf file.
I have an ASP.Net handler which returns to me all the file name of the images present in a folder in the server. Note that I'm an ASP programmer, not a Flash developper. It'll return something like that:
1.jpg|2.jpg|3.jpg|4.jpg
It's the same as if it was written in a .txt file, there's only text in the "webpage" source. The | is the separator in which I'll use a method to return a [] of string. However, the problem is how do I access it.
