ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Flex Components In Flash 9 Preview?
Jul 19, 2006
I'm starting a project in Flash Player 9 preview so that I can take advantage of all the great and super thing in AS3.0 - but unfortunately there have been no components released for 3.0 that is allowed in the flash player - and in fact the components panel is disabled when writing as FLA in AS3. I need some filetree, listbox, etc components, and I really would rather not reproduce them - my question is - is there any way to take 3.0 components that have been written in flex and modify the SWC files to allow me to use them? Maybe, if they were usable, I could use import from external library to bring them into my flash 9 as 3.0 file
I want to develop custom components (that show up in the Components panel) which a Flash designer can drag onto the stage and use the Component Inspector to customize it to their liking (inspectable parameters, I believe they are called). I'd also ideally like to implement a Live Preview so they can see their adjustments live on the design stage.
Does anyone know a good resource for learning the correct way to do this? I've found one that used to work in CS3 but now that I am on CS5 it isn't happening for me: [URL]. There's also the "official" Adobe blog post, I think the previously mentioned article gives it an appropriate shout-out for being "long and cumbersome". It seems that this should be a pretty popular technique.
I am created a dynamically adding a VBox, that contains two images. Into a Custom Component that is derived from UIComponent. The problem is the Vbox that contains the two image is only a really tiny size. I would like the VBox stretch to the size of the two images. This is how I am creating the Vbox....
I'm having some trouble with getURL (I think). It works fine when I preview with Flash's html preview but it's not working on my server. It's pretty simple. [URL].selected1 is a user-defined variable pointing to a page: ie, when the user selects variable page1 the page to be opened is [URL]. Like I said, it works with Flash's preview, but not on my server(no 404 or any response). Does there seem to be a problem with my code or might I be overlooking a server error? Here's my code:
Does anyone know what criterea Flash uses for discovering the Live Preview class for a Component? Background We are attempting to automate the creation of a SWC that contains a component to be used from Flash. We are able to make it visible to flash by modifying the manifest.xml and wiring up the component definitions. However, the component cannot be dragged onto the stage (or library), presumably because it has no form of LivePreview. To give better clarification of where we are coming from, we've noticed the following in SWCs exported from Flash (using swfdump):
fl.livepreview.LivePreviewParent contains the same mod attribute as the visual component in the manifest.xml file fl.livepreview.LivePreviewParent is exported as a symbol The short-named component (ie. no package, referenced in the components definition in the manifest.xml) is exported as a symbol However, I can see no other differences between that and the SWC from Flex. We can obviously use JSFL to perform the task, but we'd rather not install Flash on the build server.
Is it bad practice/design to nest components inside components using Flex 4? Should I simply be creating components and inserting them into my main application as below, or doesn't it matter?
Ive made a movie that add strings from several input text fields to an array. This array is sent from the flash video to php. This is working fine when I preview the movie as Flash. The php script prints the variables as intended.
But when I preview it as html the arrays are all empty...
[AS] on (release) { number_of_attr1 = main._currentframe + 1; suggestions1 = new Array();
What is the right way for integrating a Flash component into a Flex application? I heard that there are different ways of integration between Flash and Flex: using SWF, using SWC (something else?). What are theirs pros and cons? What are the points of communication between them Flash and Flex? `I'm using Flash Builder 4 for developing Flex. And Flash Professional CS 5 for developing Flash.
Isn't there some way to re-write the following code, such that I don't need a gigantic switch statement with every conceivable type? Also, if I can replace the switch statement with some way to dynamically create new controls, then I can make the code smaller, more direct, and don't have to anticipate the possibility of custom control types. Before:
Is it possible to lock components when using design mode in flash builder 4.5?
I have created a custom component in catalyst that acts as the background to the application. I need to animate this component in different states, and these are all done in catalyst.
I then imported the flash catalyst project into flash builder as a library. I was then able to drag the component into my application using design mode.
The problem is that this component has been set to stretch to fit the whole application.[code]...
I'm trying to preview a PDF file into a Flex (AIR) application : I am using the mx.controls.HTML component and it works perfectly when I build my project into flex builder. But when exporting to a validated version : I can preview a web page but not a PDF file.
I'm looking for a tool to create just the skins for different kinds of Flex 4 components.I'd like to be able to create the components myself and have the designer/artist do the skin, but I don't think they'd like the idea of doing them by writing MXML files.
I've been adding some components to a Flex 4 app (it was originally Flex 3 but has been ported). Some of these components make the app go blank when it loads. I'm not even able to see the loading progress bar. Just white.
To the root tag causes this. I also was able to make it happen when I tried setting a custom components skin from my style sheet instead of from the skinClass property.
If I embed the same asset (i.e. image or sound file) in multiple components within a Flex Application, does the compiled swf contain the asset (and it's file size) only once or once for each time it is embedded?
I am trialling Flash Builder 4 Premium.I'd like to know if it is possible to use components designed for Flash (e.g.URL... amongst many others) in Flash Builder 4? How can I import them? By import, I also mean they are first class citizens like the out-of-the-box Flash Builder 4 components.
In the .NET world order, companies like Telerik provide awesome sets of components for web/windows/silverlight. Who are the equivalents in the Flex/Flash universe? I see lots of sites filled with little 10/20 dollar menu components or uploaders, but I'm really looking to find something a step above that.
Why do I need to do add extra namespace declarations (below) in a Flex 4.1 "MX only component set" project to get it to compile within Flash Builder? (It says mx:LineChart cannot be resolved when a chart is added via Design View, and datavisualization.swc is referenced.)
Is there a way I can get this to compile without adding these special xmlns:charts, xmlns:series and chartClasses to the declaration? (If I just leave the default namespaces and use mx:SomeChartComponent, it doesn't compile.)
I am working on an image management application. We have an Adobe AIR client talking to a WAMP server. The MySQL DB stores the images as blobs. We have an image search feature. Upon searching, I am displaying the results as XMLList in a popup window and provided a download button. Downloads work fine. I also want to add a preview button to the popup.how can I code this. Without having the file on the client, I cannot preview. But when I use save() method, the os dialog opens up.
I have a custom file type that I'm reading from and writing to within an AIR application. The file type is XML based but contains encoded data for an image. I've already defined the file type in my application manifest file using the tag which assigns a custom icon to the file.
What I'm trying to figure out is whether it's possible to set the icon for each individual file to be a preview of the image contained within.
I am working on flex image uploader.as soon as you select images I am showing the image name, size. I want to show the thumbnail of the image too..so that you can preview the image before uploader.
I have added the code which I am using to show preview before upload..
Is there any opensourse, free set of components for creating Flex mxml graphs? like aviary Peacock style ones with at least Drag, drop, and connect generators so each graph element could have or something like that. Framework should be opensource (like GPL, LGPL etc) BTW: I found one wary bacic made by Erno Aapa with Degrafa but I would really love to see something much more Flex 4 - mxml oriented and frienfdly.
My embedded images show up in the Flex Builder Design Preview, but are not displayed when the application is run. The images have relative paths (/assets/images/...), and the application is run on the server (wamp). I've appended the path to the compiled location [URL] and tried to display a image in the browser, and the image exists, too. I've compiled it via FlashDevelop, Flex Builder, and Ant. I've deleted and remade the bin/bin-debug/release/bin-release files to no avail.
I have found something good here. [URL]..The mouseover effect on the list item is good. Any ideas to make this look.. I can infer that this is happening on mouseover of the Image Component. I think this is similar to google image search preview of images. If anyone have come across a component similar to this kindly share it to me and to all.
I'm using Flex 3 VideoDisplay class for playing streaming video. When I drag the track slider(change the playheadTime) there are no preview frames even if that part of the video is already loaded.
Is there anything I can do to enable this feature (from the configuration of media server or in the Flex client)?
