Flash :: Flex - Live Preview On A Flex (compc) Generated SWC
Jul 20, 2009
Does anyone know what criterea Flash uses for discovering the Live Preview class for a Component? Background We are attempting to automate the creation of a SWC that contains a component to be used from Flash. We are able to make it visible to flash by modifying the manifest.xml and wiring up the component definitions. However, the component cannot be dragged onto the stage (or library), presumably because it has no form of LivePreview. To give better clarification of where we are coming from, we've noticed the following in SWCs exported from Flash (using swfdump):
fl.livepreview.LivePreviewParent contains the same mod attribute as the visual component in the manifest.xml file fl.livepreview.LivePreviewParent is exported as a symbol The short-named component (ie. no package, referenced in the components definition in the manifest.xml) is exported as a symbol However, I can see no other differences between that and the SWC from Flex. We can obviously use JSFL to perform the task, but we'd rather not install Flash on the build server.

Let's say I create an empty movieclip called "Test_mc", then I create an as3 class "Test_mc" like below and then I set the movieclip class to "Test_mc".
public class Test_mc extends MovieClip {
public function Test_mc() {
graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000);[code]..
Now I can drag out instances of the Test_mc into the scene and get red circles when I test the movie. The problem however, is that I can't see the circles on the canvas inside the Flash IDE. Is there a way to get these actionscript generated grapics to show up?

I have a code library that I have built. It relies on 2 other (third party) libraries. At the moment, when I compile the library into a swc, both third party libraries are included. I am looking for a way to compile my code library against the third party libraries, but without including them in the compiled swc.
This would obviously mean that anyone using my library would need both libraries as well, but I would prefer it this way. I am not using Flex/Flashbuilder which I know allows you to choose the classes to include in a swc.

I'm building a flex .swc library using Ant, and many of the assets that are supposed to be in the file are not being copied, instead creating 0-byte entries in the .swc.Here is the ant compc target that is doing the creation. I've tried both compiler.include-libraries and compiler.library-path here, which is why the latter is still present and commented out. Neither worked.
<compc headless-server="true"
default-frame-rate="${flex.default-frame-rate}"
debug="${flex.compiler.debug.mode}"[code]....

What I'm looking for is a way to compile the entire director of classes without having to specify each class. I'm sure there's already an option for that, but I couldn't figure out the exact syntax.

Im Using Red5 to record live stream from the user. I am able to save the stream to disk and it generates an FLV file.
When I'm trying to read the FLV file with some FLV player - it seems like the file's meta-data is corrupted - which also makes the progress bar to act oddly. Also, I tried to play with the file using Xuggle. It seems impossible since the generated FLV do not have the codec-id in it.
Here is my relevant Red5 (JAVA) code:
public void record(IConnection conn, String streamName)
{
ClientBroadcastStream stream = (ClientBroadcastStream) getBroadcastStream(
conn.getScope(), streamName);

I'm starting a project in Flash Player 9 preview so that I can take advantage of all the great and super thing in AS3.0 - but unfortunately there have been no components released for 3.0 that is allowed in the flash player - and in fact the components panel is disabled when writing as FLA in AS3. I need some filetree, listbox, etc components, and I really would rather not reproduce them - my question is - is there any way to take 3.0 components that have been written in flex and modify the SWC files to allow me to use them? Maybe, if they were usable, I could use import from external library to bring them into my flash 9 as 3.0 file

I have moved our project from SDK 2.0.1 to 3.5 because I'm using TLF. This has compiled OK in flex builder 3 IDE but I am now using command line compilation for our build system and getting errors for all the standard Flex resource bundles: Sharedresources, collections, containers, controls etc. I can see this is because of the improvements in Flex 3 and the SDK local folder doesn't have these as .properties files but now has a framework_rb.swc.

There seems to be very little information on developing a custom component with live preview.So far i've created a swf whose application class extends UIComponent.I've also created a custom component.Then I've added the Live Preview field in the custom component's Component Definition.What I would like to do now is reposition elements within the preview swf when the user resizes the component.
To do this i need to know two things - 1 what event to listen for when the user resizes the component, and 2 the current dimensions of the resized component.
1. My only success was that ComponentEvent.SHOW seems to dispatch when the user resizes the component. (i had no luck with any of the RESIZE events - Event.RESIZE etc)
2. However the width/height properties don't seem to change on resize, they stay at the original dimensions of the component.

According to these instructions, I'm trying to use ANTLR generated *.as files in a current Flash Builder 4.5.1 project. Therefore, I added this ANTLR's Actionscript runtime to my project - without problems. I compiled lexer/parser specs using ANTLRWorks without problems too. I added the language option to the source *.g file to make ANTLR generate Actionscript sources:

I have been tinkering around with ServiceStack to expose some web services and have been very impressed. One potential consumer of these services will be a Flex application. Flash Builder (the Flex IDE) has a tool that auto-generates proxy AS3 classes for SOAP web services based on the wsdl - at this point in time only for SOAP 1.1.
If I recreate the HelloWorld tutorial, and try to use the SOAP 1.1 wsdl to autogenerate classes, I get the following errors in Flash Builder. There was an error during service introspection. The part 'parameters' has an invalid value 'HelloResponse' defined for its element. Element declarations must refer to valid values defined in a schema. The part 'parameters' has an invalid value 'Hello' defined for its element. Element declarations must refer to valid values defined in a schema. I am sure this is a problem with Flash Builder's tool. I am wondering if anyone has been successful in auto-generating AS3 classes from a ServiceStack wsdl?

I am working with an AS2 application that was put together a while back. The app is used to publish a live video stream to FMS. I am using the Camera class to connect to a local camera (Camera.get()) and to setup the encoding specs for the stream that is to be published to FMS. To preview the camera signal, I am using Video.attachVideo() to attach that camera output to a Video instance on the stage. This is all working greta for me. But here's the thing. The video stream that is being pumped to the Video instance is the direct signal from the camera. Nice and clean. I seem to remember that there is a way to view the video signal with the encoding settings applied to it. It's just one little line of code, if I remember correctly. However, I can't seem to find the code that will do that.
Can anyone quickly share the code that will allow me to preview the encoded video stream?

I've created a class in AS3 which I've linked to a component in Flash CS5 and exported as a SWC. That SWC is then loaded into my main flash file and used inside some movieclips. The issue is that I want some code in the class to be used when using the component in Flash CS5 (for previewing purposes) and some code to only be used when running the main swf. Is there any way to detect when the class is being used in Flash CS5 vs being used when running the swf?

We have a Flash game which need to be loaded and played from an AIR app. using the swf loader, the game swf is loaded into the AIR app. But the static background layers of the swf are not appearing in the loaded game.
Those graphical elements which are generated via action script only are appearing. When we are playing it independently (outside the AIR app), it works fine. Is there a setting that i am missing in Flash or Flex. we are working with Flex 4.

I have a project that I need to develop some Java code for. The project is using Flash and BlazeDS. For the initial build of the project, an Ant script is run that eventually runs what I believe is the Flex compiler (the sdk attribute points to a FlashBuilder 4 sdk/4.1.0 directory).

I want to develop custom components (that show up in the Components panel) which a Flash designer can drag onto the stage and use the Component Inspector to customize it to their liking (inspectable parameters, I believe they are called). I'd also ideally like to implement a Live Preview so they can see their adjustments live on the design stage.
Does anyone know a good resource for learning the correct way to do this? I've found one that used to work in CS3 but now that I am on CS5 it isn't happening for me: [URL]. There's also the "official" Adobe blog post, I think the previously mentioned article gives it an appropriate shout-out for being "long and cumbersome". It seems that this should be a pretty popular technique.

I'm having a problem with component live previews. If I just create a movie clip and set the live preview, all instances of the clip i put on stage update separatly from each other (their live preview that is). As soon as I change the clip to a component (export .swc or compiled clip) all the instances update together. eg if i set the component parameter 'title' - all titles of the all the instances on the stage will change. This didn't happen when it was just a movieclip - all instances changed separatly as i set them.

I've created a swf for a component live preview. The live preview appears to work ok when creating a new component, and setting the live preview in the component definition panel.
When I update an existing component definition (in a separate component library FLA) the live preview does not work. The strange thing is if I copy the entire (component FLA) library and paste it into a new FLA it works fine (although in doing so I receive a whole bunch of errors in the output window saying - Plugin tool script error in method ik_isIKContainer).

Live streaming and a buffer on a NetStream do not mix. Why? The docs don't say you can't do this.The playback gets hosed. Buffer is supposed to fill to what you set it to before playing. Instead though, about half the time, the player starts playing right away and disregards the buffer time you've set. Then you get caught in short buffering and rebuffering cycles that degrades the playback experience.
Give it a shot yourself. Here is the simplest of live streaming video players. No frills. Just connect it to your live stream by changing the defaultURL string and stream name in the ns.play() statement.
Run it in Flex debug mode. It will check and print the ns.bufferLength property every second. The buffer is set to 20 secs currently. Last time I ran it, I never made it above 2 seconds in the buffer. Player started playing right away instead of buffering the full 20 secs first. Sometimes you get to the full 20 and sometimes not.

I have a custom file type that I'm reading from and writing to within an AIR application. The file type is XML based but contains encoded data for an image. I've already defined the file type in my application manifest file using the tag which assigns a custom icon to the file.
What I'm trying to figure out is whether it's possible to set the icon for each individual file to be a preview of the image contained within.
