ActionScript 2.0 :: Using External Action Script Files?

How do you call functions that are located in an external .as file? I created an action script file that I have saved in the same directory as my swf. In the file I have two functions that I would like to be able to call in my swf when someone rolls over a button.
Here is my .as file (Rollover.as):

Within my swf I have two mp3 files, brass_click.mp3 and thoup_click.mp3, and I have set their linkage properties to "export to actionscript" with their respective names. I also have a set of buttons that I would like to play the mp3 files on rollover.On my buttons I have the following code:

That is about it. How come it doesn't work? I know that I am close...
I'm working on a project. I have a menu.swf and a index.swf. The index.swf is a file containing a movie clip named: contens in that movie clip i have the first frame to load another movie called main.swf into level 10.
How do I make a button in the menu.swf file unload the movie inside the container called contens and then load another movie?? I can't seem to figure it out.
I have an action script that plays flv files when I run it on my local machine (no web) server then it playes well but if I run it on the server it does not

I know very little about Flash so I apologize in advance for asking what is possibly a dumb question, although I did a fair bit of research before posting. Our current Flash app, written in AS3.0, is able to display a standard OS browse dialog for the purpose of allowing a user to select files. We are using [URL] to display this dialog.
The documentation for FileReferenceList states that only files could be selected. The new requirement is to allow the user to select directories as well as files. Afterward it would be very nice, but not required, to be able to get a recursive list of all the files in the selected directory. Is it possible to implement this in Flash running inside a browser? The closest I've seen so far is [URL] which does what I want but it only seems to work inside Adobe AIR and is not exposed to the browser.
I'm working on making a pretty chunky game engine for games I plan on making, but I was wondering if you make external AS files unopenable such as .lib files, so that if I give it to a friend that wants to use it, he/she cannot change my code. Is there anyway to make external AS files unopenable? Also, obfuscation isn't an option for this problem as it only stops the people who hack the finished product, not stopping people who have access to the actual files.
i am having with xml being displayed in flash mx.the tutorial on this site works fine, but when i write my own xml file and modify the as, i encounter the problems. ideally, i wolud like to be able to load text files and urls of images to be loaded into flash, flash recognises the xml file fine and actually loads it, however, when i try to use the nodeValue action, i am always given the value "null." this is because flash thinks the node is an element rather than a text node (type 1 rather than 3, when you use nodeType.) i don't know why it does this when it is obviously a text node.
I'm new to Flex and am having trouble understanding Events. I think Events are what I want to use for my situation. I have 2 components, addUser.mxml and listUsers.mxml. I access these from a ViewStack in my main application. When I load listUsers.mxml it shows a list of current users in a datagrid via a HTTPService call. When I add a user using the form on addUser.mxml I would like the datagrid in listUsers.mxml to refresh when I return to that view to show the new user. I've tried several different things with addEventListener and dispatchEvent but can't seem to get it working. Can someone help me with this logic?
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.
I spent almost a week trying to figure out how to unload a currently loaded swf using its button and loading a new swf... I have three files, a main.fla, file1.fla and file2.fla. In my main.fla, I have a code which loads the other two files. If i will click the "unload" button in the file1.swf, I would like the main.fla to unload the file1.swf and load the other file, file2.swf. Here is the code to load the file1.swf:
Lets say I have subgallery.swf file that loads jpeg images. And I have gallery.swf file that loads subgallery.swf.The jpeg images and both swf files are in the same folder.When I test gallery.swf it loads subgallery.swf but subgallery.swf doesn't load images. When testing subgallery.swf alone, it loads jpeg files.Is there any limitation or setting preventing external swfs loading other content?
Background: I have a project where i need to create multiple objects that consume the same base calss from an external .as file. each of the individual fla files that consume the base class need to pass a variable to the base class so the class can return information specific to the fla.
My question is,if i have an external class path set up, how do i get a variable on the first frame of the movie to be visible to the base class && how do i call upon its value from within the class.
Is it possible for action script to import audio files into the flash movie while the movie is playing. (Instead of manually importing a file from within the flash application) Or some way to load an audio file located at a remote url, that is not preloaded, and play it.I've searched through the action script reference guide, but have found nothing to do the job.
I've got an external .as file in the same folder as my flash file. In the process of writing the code, whenever I make a change and then test the movie, the flash movie is obviously still looking at the OLD information. I tried using the "Delete ASO Files" on the menu, to no avail.I can' find these ASO files anywhere on mycomputer.Aha! I tried something else. I quit flash,restarted and ran the same script with no changes. It returned the data correctly, but then gave me this unpleasant message:256 levels of recursion were exceeded in one action list.This is probably an infinite loop.Further execution of actions has been disabled in this movie.There are no loops of any kind in the code, which is below.

If I wanted to change an action from a button click to a frame-based action, what do I use instead of onPress? The hints from the AS editor are all click-based.
I have a slideshow that is looped ... it contains 5 slides.I am using a gotoandPlay action to control the slide show.

There is a fade transition between slides.When a button is released ... I want to gotoandPlay (frame 98) ... and then have it stop 10 frames later on (frame 108). Frame 98 includes the transition ... if I just gotoandStop on frame 108 ... I loose the transition.Is there any way to incorporate a stop action, after a gotoandPlay action on my button ... without naming instances etc.I.E.

I just want to make a simple button action using actionscript 2 but I can't get it to work! I'm sorry for even asking but I've been at this for too long now for it to not work I'm using Adobe Flash CS4 and I do the following --
File -> New Flash File (ActionScript 2.0) Insert -> New Symbol Name - test Type - button Export for ActionScript Identifier - test
And then draw it in using the keyframes and add the code to 'Actions - Button' for my button

I click on the button and it animates but no action event in the trace?
How can I get an action to follow another action when a button is clicked? When a button is clicked, I want the timeline to go to a certain frame and play and when it's done playing, to go to another frame and play. I basically want two actions in one function.
I've managed to piece together a flash website with my limited as3 knowledge. The text is loaded from external text files and styled with an external css file.
It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.

I'm loading external jpgs into a swf movie. This works fine from the swf. The problem is when I embed it in the html. File Structure that I want:
movie.html FolderB> ImageFolder>image.jpg movie.swf (path to the images is ImageFolder/image.jpg
When I run the movie.swf from within the directory, it runs fine. However, when I embed it in the movie.html it doesn't run. Question: Are paths from the swf relative to the PAGE that the swf is contained in vs the swf itself? Hope that makes sense.
I downloaded a source of the dragging3d tutorial "dragging3d.as" .I want to use it edit it in some ways but i cant.I can only open it up with flash cs3.maybe edit it there.But than what?How to compile it? or what should i do to turn it into a stage , a .flv file?
