View 2 RepliesI'd like to call a javascript function from an embedded .swf file. Specifically, I'd like to call a function in one of my externally linked javascript files from within: function loadTrack(){

which is in an .as file which I assume somehow becomes the swf file. How would I go about this and 're-compile' the .as file?
I have a flash file that contains a package "game" which has a class "Scores" and a method setValue(). I want to write some lines of Javascript that allow me to call that method. Someone directed me to this tutorial, but I am still a bit confused.
Javascript: alert("start"); var so; so = document.embeds[0];
so.addParam("allowScriptAccess","always"); import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
ExternalInterface.call("setValue[2600]");
displays an alert to tell me that it has indeed began to execute saves the embedded flash file into a variable and sets access imports that class calls the method.I am not sure about how this class thing works? This is just the bits and pieces I was able to come up with from that site, but I don't really understand how it all works (but certainly hope to eventually).This is the site: http:[url]...how-do-i-access-flash-function-using-javascript.When I execute the code with the importation nothing happens, but the alert does come up when I don't have that statement?
I have a sprite,like follows:
Code:
var _sprite:Sprite=new Sprite();
...
_sprite.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,onClick);
addChild(_sprite);
[Code]....
when I click the _sprite,I want to make the mouse shape from a cursor to handCusor shape and call javascript function.
I have an ActionScript program that I want to access some external JavaScript functions. By external, I mean that the ActionScript/swf aren't going to be loaded via the HTML/JavaScript. Everything I see recommends ExternalInterface, but that seems to imply that your JS loads your swf. Is there a way to call a JavaScript function by URL?

I am talking about doing something like this: [URL]
from flash by using ExternalInterface probably
I'm loading from my main page an external js file, with a function.
I have a flash file in the main page invoking the javascript function.
Everything worked very well until when the javascript code was in the main file, but when I moved javascript to an external file the function seems not called anymore.
So... there is no way to move the javascript code to an external file ? Or any other solution ?

I need to call a function in JS that's expecting a JSON object. Can I do this from External Interface? The company's example (after the include file url) in HTML looks like this:
//there's an js include URL earlier//
Shopwithme.Initialize({
"id":"prod1234",
[code]...
But, I need to dictate these vars through Flash. How do I call this function using External Interface?This is my EI code, but I'm obviously off base, since it's not working:
ExternalInterface.call("Shopwithme.Initialize",[{ "id":"prod1234",
"type":"2","URL":"http://www.somelink.com"}]);
What do I need to do to call this javascript?
I'm trying to edit some flash to make an external javascript function call, but with no success. Here's my actionscript 2.0 code:
[Code]....
I've seen lots of examples and I'm mainly confused about the use of ExternalInterface.addCallback. I don't need the javascript to return anything to flash, so is this necessary? For whatever reason, I never see the alert. Does anyone see any problems in my code? Is there some ExternalInterface library I don't have? Also, what's the BEST way to use ExternalInterface (ie; error checking, etc.)
I'm hitting a brick wall here, and it's driving me mad. Used to use ExternalInterface to call Flash functions from Javascript all the time, and now under CS5 (and the way it uses object id's instead of embed in html) it's stopped working for me in certain browsers. I put together a really simple program that has the person click a link in the browser that activates a javascript function that simply sends some text in to Flash to display in a TextArea. Here's the as3 code:
[Code]....
I'm authoring in Flash CS4 using Motion Tweens.
Here is the situation. I have a JavaScript that closes the DIV containing my flash object. It currently closes after 15 seconds. That is supposed to be how long the Flash movie lasts. however, slower machines run the movie longer. this means the flash object closes too quickly and they don't see the entire movie. . . if I increase the time, the users of fast machines have to wait around awhile for the movie to disappear.
So, I would like the movie to execute the javaScript when it gets to the last frame.
i have some actionscript that makes a
ExternalInterface.call('someFunction');
call.is it possible to reference the html object that made the call to someFunction directly using the ExternalInterface.call call?
Assume that the object that makes the call also has some Callbacks (via ExternalInterface.addCallback) that are accessible via javascript.
Currently:
Actionscript source
ExternalInterface.call("someFunction");
ExternalInterface.addCallback("someCallback",someASfunction);
[code]....
Code:
_root.navigationMC.onPress = function() {
startPreload("blue.swf");
}
If I wanted to change an action from a button click to a frame-based action, what do I use instead of onPress? The hints from the AS editor are all click-based.
I'm trying to use ExternalInterface.Call to call a JavaScript function to launch a lightbox window. So far I have this:
AS3:
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("launchLB", "" + aUrl + "");
JavaScript:
function launchLB(url) {
alert(url);
[Code]....
I get the alert but I can't get the lightbox window to display. When my as code makes the ExternalInterface call I get what looks like a page refresh and a blank browser window.
I have a function defined in JavaScript like so:
function fadeBack() {
alert("fadeBack called");
};
I call that function from my Flash file like so:
import flash.external.*;
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("fadeBack");
This works in both Safari and Chrome, but for some reason Firefox won't ever call the function. Still, I can't figure this out. How can I fix it?
I am using flash professional for take photo from webcam. My requirement is that I want to start camera and after 2 sec it will take photo and turn off the camera.
I did that and its working good in all browser except IE. Actually, I am display:none that flash object after photo take, and it will automatically turn off camera in browser except IE.
If I display:none camera flash object, it will not turn off my webcam.
Ok Im trying to use flash to call up a java script window I have two buttons to open 2 different windows on the same page but the problem is for some reason only one link is opened by the two buttons. Each button opens the montage link any help as to why the mogo button dosn't open the right link? Below is all my code

1. I make a simple movie (call it movieClip) first frame has stop(); action, second frame has label playMovie, last frame has action gotoAndPlay(2); (so that movie not stop anymore2. Now I place movieClip on stage3. Question... what is code to make movieClip play frame label playMovie?
I already try to put many different type action in frame one of stage

I have a flash file which captures an image from a webcam and sends it to the server. This file works fine under ActionScript 2.0 but under 3.0 I get an Unspecified Error and the debugger crashes on the return eval in :
[Code]...
I've tried adding localhost to the list of trusted sites in the flash security manager
[URL] I've also tried playing with the allowScriptAccess and allowNetworking settings in the object tag.
JS-to-AS3 callbacks work in kinda asynchronous way right? So for example if I ask SWF to download some file, which may take some time (depending on the size of that file), and while it downloads it, ask it to do some other operation (suppose SWF has several callbacks for various purposes), what happens in this case? Does SWF continue to download file and handle my second request in a different thread maybe, or it crashes, or throws some error? I know this is a good case for some testing, but I wonder if anyone has already done that, or maybe there is public info on the case that I cannot find?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to call a javascript function from a flash movie. I'm using IE.
This one works:
AS3: ExternalInterface.call("test();");
Javascript:
function test()
[Code].....
...it says "undefined" insted of alert(666)...it seems that if i use a field in the function it simply stops working. (I'm accessing the page [URL]
The only way I have found so far to capture the browser window close event from actionscript/flash is actually to capture the event in javascript, and then use a javascript/flash data passing from the javascript callback.
Something around those lines:
window.onbeforeunload = clean_up;
function clean_up()
{
var flex = document.${application} || window.${application};

How to call AS2 method from Javascript? Without ExternalInterface use.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to call a php script/page that has some javascript calls in it, from AS3.
I'm using the regular
var varSend:URLRequest=new URLRequest("http://my_www/script.php");
varSend.method=URLRequestMethod.POST;(...)
My php page has some javascript. The php passes some variables obtained in POST to my JS script, which connect to a 3rd party app. Now my problem is, i can call the script from AS3 without any problem, but when i do so, it seems like the JS is never running. My question is, if you call a php script/page in POST from flash, is the JS embed in that page running ??
I'm having a hell of a time trying to call JavaScript from an AIR application. Here's what I'm trying to do:
1. Load an HTML page using HTMLLoader.
2. Access a link by its ID in the HTMLLoader object and simulate the JavaScript click() function on that link.
Here's the JavaScript function in the loaded HTML page (it simply submits a form on the page):
Code:
function submitAssistantForm(direction)
{
document.theForm.direction.value=direction;
document.theForm.submit();
return;
}
And here's the ActionScript code I'm trying:
Code:
var html:HTMLLoader = new HTMLLoader();
html.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, splash);
html.load(new URLRequest("...URL omitted..."));
[code]....
By the way, if I add the HTMLLoader object to the stage and manually click the link with my mouse, everything works perfectly. So I have to believe it's possible to programmatically send a click event to the link.
Included is an example to look at for those willing to help. I have just extracted the relevant sections from the original source files. The html files are commented as well for ease of reference.I have a flash/AS3 slideshow that serves as an abstract for a html based site. There is a catch however... I use a custom content scroller and dynamic content loader (javascript & jQuery) for the body of the site.An example of the custom scroller and dynamic conten loader can be seen on the Malihu wbsite with a demo.The Javascript code that loads the new content looks like this:[code]The button (its a list item) in the html fie that would trigger the custom content loading looks like this:[code]"The ".content" class div is the section im swopping around depending on which link the user clicks. In the case above i dynamically load the contents of the ".content" div from the about.html file into the ".content" div in the index.html file (which is my main file).Is there a way to do the same from Flash?
