</script>
Now how to call the method helloWorld() from flash ??

now i want to call writeName() from flash ?? how to achieve these things from flash ?
Wats the code i have to write in flash cs3 ?
I have a flash application using callbacks to javascript functions (eg. when it receives some data over a socket, it'll call a js script which would change the content of a div according to that given data).
Afaik, there is no actual mutual exclusion in javascript so I'm not sure if I can/need to simulate something like :
[code]...
So, the question is, when are those callbacks called ? Are they simply queued to be executed right after the browser finishes its task or are they triggered randomly ?
i've been struggling with this issue. I need to load a flex swf into a flash as3 shell and then call its methods. I can see the flex swf no problem - but calling its methods - nothing works. Now considering LocalConnection or even ExternalInterface to communicate between the two.
View 2 RepliesI'm loading from my main page an external js file, with a function.
I have a flash file in the main page invoking the javascript function.
Everything worked very well until when the javascript code was in the main file, but when I moved javascript to an external file the function seems not called anymore.
So... there is no way to move the javascript code to an external file ? Or any other solution ?

I'd like to call a javascript function from an embedded .swf file. Specifically, I'd like to call a function in one of my externally linked javascript files from within: function loadTrack(){
[Code]...
which is in an .as file which I assume somehow becomes the swf file. How would I go about this and 're-compile' the .as file?
I have a flash file that contains a package "game" which has a class "Scores" and a method setValue(). I want to write some lines of Javascript that allow me to call that method. Someone directed me to this tutorial, but I am still a bit confused.
Javascript: alert("start"); var so; so = document.embeds[0];
so.addParam("allowScriptAccess","always"); import flash.external.ExternalInterface;
ExternalInterface.call("setValue[2600]");
displays an alert to tell me that it has indeed began to execute saves the embedded flash file into a variable and sets access imports that class calls the method.I am not sure about how this class thing works? This is just the bits and pieces I was able to come up with from that site, but I don't really understand how it all works (but certainly hope to eventually).This is the site: http:[url]...how-do-i-access-flash-function-using-javascript.When I execute the code with the importation nothing happens, but the alert does come up when I don't have that statement?
how I can trigger isLoaded() as soon as my .swf movie is loaded.[code]

I'm trying to edit some flash to make an external javascript function call, but with no success. Here's my actionscript 2.0 code:
[Code]....
I've seen lots of examples and I'm mainly confused about the use of ExternalInterface.addCallback. I don't need the javascript to return anything to flash, so is this necessary? For whatever reason, I never see the alert. Does anyone see any problems in my code? Is there some ExternalInterface library I don't have? Also, what's the BEST way to use ExternalInterface (ie; error checking, etc.)
I have an ActionScript program that I want to access some external JavaScript functions. By external, I mean that the ActionScript/swf aren't going to be loaded via the HTML/JavaScript. Everything I see recommends ExternalInterface, but that seems to imply that your JS loads your swf. Is there a way to call a JavaScript function by URL?

View 2 RepliesI don't work with Flash and consequently know nothing of it, but I have the task of embedding a swf film into a web page. I know nothing about the swf's internal design, other than it plays a short film. I'd like to control when the swf starts playing, rewind it (it will be played infinitely), and possibly even cache it in the browser. It will be part of a Javascript-powered rotation of images, in which the <img> element will be temporarily replaced with an <object> for the swf.
My question is do swf files have an interface for Javascript built-in when compiled (Actionscript I think?), or would this entirely depend on the author's decision to include such code? If it is dependent on the author's inclusion of the code, are there any possible tests I can run to see what methods might be available?
I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?
View 15 RepliesI need to call a function in JS that's expecting a JSON object. Can I do this from External Interface? The company's example (after the include file url) in HTML looks like this:
//there's an js include URL earlier//
Shopwithme.Initialize({
"id":"prod1234",
[code]...
But, I need to dictate these vars through Flash. How do I call this function using External Interface?This is my EI code, but I'm obviously off base, since it's not working:
ExternalInterface.call("Shopwithme.Initialize",[{ "id":"prod1234",
"type":"2","URL":"http://www.somelink.com"}]);
What do I need to do to call this javascript?
is it possible to load javascript file to the page using flash instead of embed the code in the page? for example : Wibiya Web Toolbar.so I made immediately an account for this forum to get the code for the example.[code] URL...
View 1 RepliesI have a function defined in JavaScript like so:
function fadeBack() {
alert("fadeBack called");
};
I call that function from my Flash file like so:
import flash.external.*;
flash.external.ExternalInterface.call("fadeBack");
This works in both Safari and Chrome, but for some reason Firefox won't ever call the function. Still, I can't figure this out. How can I fix it?
I'm hitting a brick wall here, and it's driving me mad. Used to use ExternalInterface to call Flash functions from Javascript all the time, and now under CS5 (and the way it uses object id's instead of embed in html) it's stopped working for me in certain browsers. I put together a really simple program that has the person click a link in the browser that activates a javascript function that simply sends some text in to Flash to display in a TextArea. Here's the as3 code:
[Code]....
i have some actionscript that makes a
ExternalInterface.call('someFunction');
call.is it possible to reference the html object that made the call to someFunction directly using the ExternalInterface.call call?
Assume that the object that makes the call also has some Callbacks (via ExternalInterface.addCallback) that are accessible via javascript.
Currently:
Actionscript source
ExternalInterface.call("someFunction");
ExternalInterface.addCallback("someCallback",someASfunction);
[code]....
Is there any way to embed Flash completely in HTML, without reference to an external SWF file? I ask because I would like to send an HTML file as an email attachment that the recipient will open in a browser and fill out as a form. The last step is that they will copy the result to their clipboard, paste it into a new message, and email it back. I cannot reliably copy to the clipboard with JavaScript because of the security issues, but there are simple Flash apps to add that capability.
I know I could just display the response text (which will be Base64 encoded) to the recipient and have them copy/paste, but it would be nice to provide this small convenience to them. Also, so you are aware, the text is often too large to include in an email using mailto. Yes. This needs to be done via email. The users have slow, occasional satellite email access and no other data connection to the interwebs. To make things worse, I cannot make them install anything. It is a difficult situation.
I have a project (adobe AIR 3.1 - NOT flex) that is running on my webserver where nodeJS is installed. I'm looking at the possibility to call NodeJS javascript files from the AIR app. Like the AIR app collects some information and calls socket.io in NodeJS to dispatch the info to html connected clients.

I am using in AS3 "External Interface ". When I call the JS function that is on the same page as swf everything works fine.
I added a link in the html page to an external JS file, when I move the JS function to the external JS file the website crushes.
I would prefer to have all my JS functions on an external file so I can use them in the future in other project and it also makes it easier for me to update the site.
how to call a JS function that is on an external file from AS3?
All I'm trying to do is load an external .swf file into a precise location on the stage of my existing Flash file. I've spent an hour and a half on this site search and found nothing. What do I add to my loadMovie command to place the file at specific x,y coordinates?

View 1 Repliesi want to call a javascript function from within an embeded swf file in a html page and i'm using the ExternalInterface class. i know this function must be defined in a <script> tag in the html page. however, i want to have all my javascript code in an external file, but it doesn't work. my trial file just can't find the function, although i have my external js file linked in the header.
View 3 RepliesI need to load somehow the html code of a webpage A into a javascript string of another webpage B, on a different host. I know this is impossible to do with javascript alone because of the same origin policy, and I know I could do it loading the page via php on my server and then send results back to the user's client but I wouldn't be able to handle so many requests, so I need it to be done directly by the user's browser. I can use nearly whatever browser scripting language/applet framework common enough to be installed on the majority of my users' computers, like flash and java.On example, what if I use flash or java to load the external html code and then call a javascript callback function providing the source? Could this work?
View 2 RepliesI've written a pre-loader for my game, it uses Loader, URIRequest and LoaderInfo to display a bytes left/total counter as the main game SWF loads - this all works fine.
However what then happens is that the main SWF constructor is called, so the game starts running "in the background" while the pre-loader finishes off.
I moved the 'start game' code from the constructor into a different function but I'm now left with the issue of how can I actually tell the main game SWF to start?
You can't do loader.content.go() (where go() is the function I want to call).
How can I access methods of a loaded SWF? Or is there another way? I tried dispatching a custom Event from the pre-loader, but the game SWF just never heard it - but is this the right way to go about things?
I really want to pass some bits of data from the pre-loader into the main game SWF too, but until I can figure out how to make them both talk I'm totally stuck! Is there a way the game SWF could reference any variables set by the preloader?
I'm trying to call methods from a class to no avail. It just tells me that I have undefined methods.[code]
