ActionScript 2.0 :: Wait Until XML File Loaded?

I'm trying to load an external XML file into my program using onLoad callback function. The problem is that the script will continue to run without waiting for the file to load. Is there a way to do that?

I am trying to load several swf files into various containers. In one scene I have used the following:
createEmptyMovieClip("container1", 1);loadMovie("MC.swf", "container1");
And I want to wait for it to load complete before moving to the next scene and doing the following one...
createEmptyMovieClip("container2", 2);loadMovie("MC2.swf", "container2");

I have two Flash banner ads, built in CS5.5, using AS2, that will be placed on a page together and appear to interact with each other when played at the same time. Similar to this: [URL]..
The problem is that they might not load at the same time. How can I get each banner to check that the other has finished loading before playing?
I had read that LocalConnection was the way to do this, but I haven't been able to find anything that explains it well.

essentially, I'm loading some clips dynamically via xml offstage...they then pan to the center of the screen. Pretty easy, except the files (about 100k+) aren't loading fast enough, and they're showing up halfway through the tweenYes, I know, I need to wait until the clip has loaded...but how? I've tried onLoad(success), getBytesLoaded() ==getBytesTotal() etc...but I can't so much as get the file size of the file at the end of the xml branch. Before I go any farther, here's the code:

I have two classes: Level, which dictates a tile-based level, and MapLoader, which loads a text file on my local machine.I am calling a load function through Level asking MapLoader to load, but when I try to parse the data, MapLoader isn't done with the load.I've tried putting the load in a while loop, but it just freezes. I have a slideshow that loads image files with the BulkLoader class from here. When the first image is loaded completely, it gets added to a MovieClip container to add it to the stage.. and it gets displayed fullscreen, but only if a button is clicked:

This works fine unless the fullScreenButton is clicked before the image is loaded completely, then of course nothing is visible. How do I get button click event that calls showFull() to wait until the image is loaded/added to the container or how can I add it again? What is a possible/the best approach?
I tried dispatching a custom event "firstImgAdd" that adds the image again to the container when the fullScreenButton is clicked, as well as with a try/catch block or even a simple if condition but none of them worked, meaning the image does not get added to the container after it has finished loading when the button is clicked too early.

The problem is that it executes #Second before #First, which means that the object is not fullly loaded but the code continues nonetheless. Is there a way handle this? I have tried using a while loop, but this is ugly and makes flash crash. Is there any decent way to handle this, does it have to do with better code structure/program flow or is there a technical way to make it wait? Also note: This code is executed on the server side, which means there are no frames involved.
UPDATE:When projects get bigger, this gets very ugly, especially when you are retrieving mulitple things from a server, you have to use very deep nesting, you have to keep repeating the same code, example for buying a serial:

step1- I got an xml that is locally loaded(works fine)
step2- the content goes into a datagrid that is displayed (works fine)
step3- In AS3 I dynamically add some lines to this xml file(works fine)
step4- I save it locally (works fine)
step5-and want the datagrid to be updated..(works not-so-well)
So, in step 4, the data is saved into the xml file, but in order to finish the save, the user has to click on the "Save as" windows in order to have the file updated of course.. and that's where's my problem, how can i tell flash to wait till the user actually saves the file, before reload the xml file in the datagrid ? here's the code :

How do I wait for an external .txt file to load in ActionScript 3? If I use URLLoader, I have no guarantee that the file has loaded, since it dispatches an event when it's complete. I'm calling the loader function from another class, so I can't simply stick the next actions into the event listener.

Is it possible to control one loaded SWF File eg.(MOVIE-1.swf) from another loaded SWF file eg.(MOVIE-0.swf) on a different level? eg. with a syntax like:

I'm building a flash movie for something at work and im loading in some images using an XML file but when i use a preloader it only preloads the XML file (as in just the text inside) and not the images.
This causes the movie to start playing without having the images loaded.Does anyone have any ideas about how i could get it to preload the contents/images being called in the XML file so it doesn't run as soon as the XML file is loaded.

I have a flash file that is 1.5mb in size. As it takes about 6 minutes for someone on dialup to load this file, I have created a smaller swf file and loaded the larger one from it but I don't want the larger one to begin to play until it's fully downloaded. I load a "cal" swf file in another swf files mdi_window. So the window is moveable inside the application. The issue is with the x y axis for the popups that open up in cal swf. The code for the function that opens popup is:

The x & y axis of the popup act wired based on the location of the mdi_window in which the Cal.swf is being loaded. The x & y axis work fine if I move the mdi_window all the way on the top left corner of the application. The first image shows how the popup opens when I double-click on the 10:00 AM purple color event on my calendar.
and now when I move my window the popup moves to the side as well. I clicked on the same 10:00Am purple event again here: How can I solve this issue.

I'm writing a movie scene in AS3, and I hit a snag. I have a movie where the dialogue is advanced by the user pressing a button (the space bar). I have a speak function which prints out the dialogue to a dynamic text box. However, if I type in this:
speak(1, "Hello world!");
speak(2, "Hello back to you as well.");
Then, my first speak function is immediately overwritten by my second one...because they run at the same time. I'm not using the timeline so, I can't put a stop() function in or anything. I'm doing it all in ActionScript.
Is there a way to pause the movie and wait for the user to press the spacebar before loading up the second function. I was thinking of nesting functions to do it, but that seems overly complicated since I'll have nearly 20 lines of dialogue nested within one another in between moving my sprites around.

Im trying to make some sort of hearing check to see if your ears are still functioning the way they should be. In my program the user is shown 9 images (for example an image of a cat) The images correspond to the 1 - 9 keys. (Im not sure if this is relevant but i'm programming for a Flash Lite application to be run on a mobile device)So let's say the image of the cat is number 1. The sound of the cat is being played and the user has to press the 1 key on his keyboard. However for this to be possible the script must pause and give the user the oppertunity to press the correct key.How can i make sure the script does not continue until a key is pressed after playing a sound.Below is my code so far:

Is it possible in AS3, to have 0 alpha for some seconds, then have the buttons fade in... and I say buttons, as I have two of them. But wanted to finish it all of with a nice fade-in effect on my buttons. I've found some nice fade out effects with tweening in AS3, but I need fade in - and would like for me to decide when they should do this. So far I'm pretty satisfied with my first flash file, but I do like perfection!

I have a child component that dispatches an event in Parent. The event in parent makes a call to our database. Right now, the event gets fired off & the child continues without the results. How do I make it so that the child waits for the results from the database b/f the child continues?

I have two sharedProperties in an app, one of them is in addition a batonProperty. It is easy if I only want one of them to be synched, I just add an eventlistener to the sync event. If I have two though, I can still attach event listeners to both to check when each syncs, but how would I wait for both of them to be synched?
