MCmenu is a button array,
MCtext is a collection of text with frame labels. It's labeled as MCtext
The menu buttons tell MCtext to play the frame label as the button clicked. This *used to work*, but Flash was laggy as hell so I updated it. Now the same code returns #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at MCmenu/itemClicked()

I've tried the Script Assist to target the MC on the stage:

Flex :: Pass Data Retrieved From A Remote Object Service To A Modules Interface?
Jun 9, 2010I found at this Adobe tutorial a nice "RemoteService" class that creates a RemoteObject and contains the functions for handling the result and fault events. If I wanted to use this approach, how could I pass the data from the result handler to interfaces that modules from the main application could use?
I could put the RemoteService/RemoteObject in the modules, but (in my opinion- and I could be wrong) the best design seems to be using the remote calls in the main app and passing the data along to the modules.

Flex :: Data Access Object Or Inline Methods?
Jan 28, 2011I am still very new to Actionscript and have an okay working knowledge of Flex. I am working on an AIR application that runs a SQLite database underneath. The database is only 3 tables (projects, items and types). I was wondering if Actionscript best practices are to use a data access object or layer to store all of my database functions or to just run them inline as needed. I would assume an access layer would be best for interacting with the database for usability, but I can't seem to find much documentation for SQLite in AIR.

Oct 26, 2006I have a Flash output file that uses both LoadVars and XMLConnectors. While LoadVars all work on all tested browsers, XMLConnector does something very strange and ONLY on Internet Explorer. When I try to use it, the listeners for the XMLConnector say send (using GET Method), status is correct (StatusChange), but the data that returns is crazy (outputs 11). I am suppose to get a full xml data stream, but all I get is 11. This happens in IE (PC) only. In Netscape on PC or Mac) it is fine, on Firefox (PC or Mac) is it fine, on Safari it is fine. SO, has anyone able to use the XMLConnector properly on IE (FP8)? The parameters for the problem are: Flash Player 8, Internet Explorer 6, PC.

Dec 9, 2009I've got a flex app that hits a remote SOAP service and populates a list with the results.
It works fine when i run it through flex builder, but when i compile the application and move it onto a webserver it can't access the services.
I've tried it from a standalone webserver and on my own machine. I'm assuming that there's a security issue that i've missed as i can't think of any other reason why it's ok in flex builder but not when compiled on the same box.

Oct 6, 2009I have a flex application which collects data entered by the user and posts it off to a web service I have running on a back end server. The flex application does not authenticate users (it's available for anyone to use without setting up an account) and communicates to the web service using HTTPS. There is an XML firewall in place for preventing certain malformed requests, DoS attacks etc and the web service validates all data received from the client.
If I was to sign the content then I could use the XML firewall to verify the signature but I assume that any certificate type data I embed in the client could be extracted out of the flex app through some means of de-compilation. My question is, is there any way of limiting calls to the web service to only those from my flex client? I understand that a user could input bad information but I'm really trying to prevent another client or 'bot'.

Sep 8, 2011I have an html file and I'm using swfobject 2.2 to embed a flash file into the html file. This flash file is getting data from a web service, so it is trying to communicate with an "Internet-enabled location". I know and have read a lot about peolpe having trouble with this kind of problem, but I can't seem to find a solution for it. After this dialog box pops up I add the actual swf file and my project folder which is in wwwroot to the trusted location settings. This works fine, but only when I use the absolute file path in my browser.

Php :: AMF Data Is Incomplete With Flex Service?
Apr 28, 2010I am bussy with a Flex Project with a data services. Flash builder installed Zend Framework with Zend_Amf.
When i run the project i get the error NetConnection.Call.Failed: HTTP: Failed. With chalers i say that Zend_Amf give the error: AMF data is incomplete (0 bytes of 0 bytes). Please check the recording limits in the Recording Settings.
I don't know what the problem means. I have searched on google, but i haven't found a good result. The Flex project code is:

Oct 9, 2009I have loaded an XML file in the class LoadXML and have here created a method which parses the data and returns various arrays: an array of background urls (i called the array: hintergrund[]), an array of image paths (pfad[]), an array of website urls (website[]) and so forth. In the main class I would now like to load the backgrounds and images. I must have made a mistake in my onBackgrLoad() because I keep receiving the error msg:Error #1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before colon.Here are the relevant sections in my Main class:

Nov 4, 2011I have a load file and a write to file method. We all know what they do. How ever load always returns true and write always returns false....Right there you know somethings wrong. Because The forums have an issue with me posting code...I posted it here: [URL] Based on this code what is the issue here? why is write always returning false and why is load always returning true? (even for files that do not exist). My understanding is that if flash cannot find the file it should write to it will create it and if it cant load said file, then that method should return false.

Mar 17, 2011I'm trying to read json data from a web service. The problem is that it seems URLLoader always return the data as XML so I can't decode the json string.

not surprisingly i get an error on the json decode because as far as i can see using trace, i get xml data.Also i tried to run it on the browser, didn't help. Also tried to set the content type in the request to 'application/json', but it gave me an error.Even though i googled it, i couldn't fint what is the problem in my as3 code. It seems to me it should have worked.

I liked the Flex because of it's cross platform and animation rich possibilities. One of the best web applications that i faced with in the inet is [URL] it has wonderful animating grid possibilities. Its server technology is in Java. How about converting this data service to PHP? That should read data from mysql in PHP.. I prefer working with PHP (as data service) and MySql (as rdbms) in Flex...

Actionscript 3 :: Casting An Object Using 'as' Returns Null MyObject?
May 3, 2010I am trying to create a custom object in AS3 to pass information to and from a server, which in this case will be Red5. In the below screenshots you will see that I am able to send a request for an object from as3, and receive it successfully from the java server. However, when I try to cast the received object to my defined objectType using 'as', it takes the value of null. It is my understanding that that when using "as" you're checking to see if your variable is a member of the specified data type. If the variable is not, then null will be returned.
This screenshot illustrates that I am have successfully received my object 'o' from red5 and I am just about to cast it to the (supposedly) identical datatype testObject of LobbyData:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Hittestpoint Returns True Even After Object Is Removed?
Nov 29, 2009I have six objects which are on the stage when my game loads up. I have stored them in an array in my Document class. Occassionaly I run through this array and check if something has hit these objects and remove them if so. i don't actually remove them from the array though. I'm finding though that even after these objects have been removed from the stage, the hittestpoint still returns true when something crosses the area where these objects once where?! Doesn't the object have to be there for hitTestPoint to return true?

Mar 12, 2011I'm using the data/services in Flash Builder 4 to access the php functions of a site within an Air based Crud, and figuring out the most efficient ways to work with the data objects that come back.

The data comes back as an associative array, which is fine if I want everything from it to be treated the same. But I'm not sure how I am supposed to pull a particular column from the array without having to go through a for loop to parse through it.. since right now the contact name would be at allContacts[i].name.
Basically I want to make a list of the names from the allContacts, so I want an array of allContacts[i].name to set as the data provider for a element. Is there any way to get that done without having to write a for loop to convert it into a new array or writing a new php function?

Aug 26, 2011I am writing an application in Flash Builder 4.5. I am also writing a PHP Web service to access data from our MySQL database. This Web service will be made available to third party clients for them to develop applications to access our database as well, via SOAP.
Is there a big performance difference between connecting to the service in Flash Builder via connecting directly to the PHP file vs. connecting to a Web Service via SOAP?I would kind of like to connect to this service the same way that our clients will, to make sure things stay as uncomplicated as possible for future development, but performance is my main priority.
