ActionScript 2.0 :: Why Does Attached Sound Play Automatically
Jul 4, 2011
AS in frame 1:
[Code]....
the MC soundLoader is there on the stage, and the file is linked correctly from the library, meaning that it works (the movie makes a single sound when the mouse hovers over it), except that the attached sound plays immediately when the swf loads. This is annoying on a page with about 16 of these!

I have a sound SWF that plays fine on its own. But when I attach it to the main timeline of another SWF there's no sound. How do I need to reference the Sound object and vars to get the Sound to play?
Here's the code for the sound SWF:
Code:
var mainLoop:Sound = new Sound();
mainLoop.attachSound("mainPageLoop");
// Starts at beginning and loops 2 times.

Lately I've found myself constantly writing removeEventListeners everywhere, which makes code quite messy. I know it's a best practice and such, but in general it has no sense. Garbage collector should handle such a simple task by itself, shouldn't it? Is it that hard to remove all listeners automatically when object is set to null?
So I just want to be sure if that's the case. Does setting an object to null, automatically remove all attached event listeners? In my case scenario is like this - I create an object and attach bunch of event listeners to it, then after a while I need to re-initialize this object. Of course setting this object to null is much easier then unbinding every listener by hand. And on most part listeners are anonymous functions, which means that it's not possible without code refactoring. When I simply re-initialize a variable with new I do not get duplicate listeners and such, but I'm not sure that it's previous value, along with all the listeners gets garbage-collected. Is it?

So this is my code so far:
on (press) { // Gives your movie a button functionsgetUrl("http://www.astahost.com");}
on (rollOver) {this._alpha=100;gotoAndPlay("Scene 2"); }
[Code]....
when i play the movie, it plays scene 2, however, scene 2, which is in my flash document, plays automatically. how can i stop this? is there some code which only makes scene 2 play when called for and not play automatically.

I have a button with a sound attached to it. The button should play the sound when the mouse is in its down state. When I play the sound in the .swf file the sound plays but it's cut off at the end (maybe the last 3 seconds). I'm using mp3 files for the sound. This is happening with many of the buttons in the program. It's a simple operation within the program. The user clicks a button and voice-over is supposed to play.

I have the following problem. I have a attachSound for three wav files in the library. This is the code:
Code:
song1 = new Sound();
song1.attachSound("song1");
song2 = new Sound();
[code].....
This is also working.When I press the button the music stops. When I press the song1 button, song1 start playing again. But when I press on of the othet two buttons nothing happens. This is the code for the buttons:
Code:
on (release){
_root.mc_menu.song1.start();
_root.mc_menu.song2.stop();
_root.mc_menu.song3.stop();
}

What is the best way to attached sound to my movie. I used to used the sound obejct as such:
my_Sound_sound = new Sound();
mySound_sound.attachSound("soundID");
But by under the linkage menu I am only able to select export in the first frame. Which makes my first frame super huge. Than my preloader will not load until the sound, so it is no good.

I have read lots of posts with similar problems, however, my preloader is slightly different as it is a separate file altogether. I have attached a sound on frame 50 of my movie using 'attach sound'.It plays fine. On my linkage I have ticked 'export on first frame'. When this is not ticked it does not play. So I left it ticked.
My preloader is a seperate .swf that loads the movie that has the sound.I can tell the sound has loaded as the preloader takes a lot longer. However, when the movie has loaded and begins to play the sound just does not exist. Or it is shy and does not want to talk.I can't do the thing everyone is suggesting (moving sound to frame 3 and unchecking 'export on first frame', then modifying my preloader script) because my preloader is separate to my movie.

I've got an array of Strings each of which have been input by a series of coloured buttons with sounds attached. When a play button is pressed the strings that correspond to different coloured sounds should play one after the other. Instead they all play at the same time as one jumbled mess of noise and I have tried everything to get it to work. The trace shows that the for loop through the array seems to be doing the right thing which is why I can't understand why it won't just play back one after the other.
This is the code for the play button:
PlayBTN.onRelease = function(){
trace("PlayButton Pressed");
for(var i:Number =0; i<songArray.length; ++i){
trace("Inside Loop");
trace(i);

I'm really at loss here (6 hrs straight and liters of coffee and i cannot indetify the problem) and I would REALLY really appreciate your help-- A LOT *sigh* Here's the scenario: I'm tying to build my new flash site as modular as possible (learning from past mistakes). Among others, I'm importing a MC containing all menu functions onto the main timeline via loadMovie(). This mcMenu.swf also contains the sound effects for the menu which are being attached via actionscript in the first frame:

Whenever I enter the actionscript loadMovie ....I could only place it in by cut and paste because everytime I use the ready actionscript loadMovie;it places the script as loadMovieNum and that does not work!
yet what do I have to do different to just have the sound load in automatically when the scene is open instead of having the viewer press play when they see the play button, but rather only see the stop button to choose to turn the sound off.

It's possible to play a sound file through AS, either by loading it from a folder or import it to flash. It's also possible to play a dynamic tone with flash.media.Sound + writeFloat.
But... is it possible to play a sound file with flash.media.Sound + writeFloat in some way? I want to play a sound file without having to deal with any files except the .swf!

I'm trying to compile a SWC file with a lot of assets in it in an as easy possible way. "Easy" for a not so technical end user, not perse the way to acchieve that goal. Goal is to streamline a process to generate SWC files with as little possible tech for the person doing it.So, sort of like manually doing:
* Import files into Flash
* For each library item select "Export for actionscript" and have Flash generate the basic class.
* Publish as SWC
but without the Flash IDE and the possibly labourous process.Right now I'm trying to put an AIR project together that generates classes based on a file list. The classes can than be added to a Flash Builder library project to generate a SWC file from it (copy in finder, check classes in Project properties, done)I can generate the classes for graphics like below. Such a class can then be instantiated from within the host application [code] Allthough this adds another level to the display list (which looks kinda sloppy to me), it works.However, for this to work for sound files I need to create a class implementing all possible methods and properties of the soundclass and handle the events and such. There is no way to extend Sound and then do something like you would/can with graphics.[code]Does anyone know if there is a way to get to the format the Flash IDE generates the classes with?

I need to learn how feasible it is to automatically assemble Flash animations which take a background image, an animation (or a set of vector drawings that can be turned into an animation) and a sound file from a set of files. In other words, assume that I have the following set of files:
3 background images (let's assume JPG)
3 animations (no sound, no static background)
100 sound files (let's assume MP3)
So if I want to code something like:
for i 1 to 3
for k 1 to 3
take animation i
take background image k
for j 1 to 100
take sound_file j
resulting_swf = assemble (animation[i], background[i], sound_file[j])
save(resulting_swf)
Which will produce 900 Flash animations with different combinations of sound and background, what is the starting point? Are there some libraries (in Python, Perl, PHP, etc.) with good documentation and examples to develop something like that, some program that I can run from the command line?

I have been given the task of converting a macromedia application to a web app. It seems the application begins with the shell.swf once the exe is started. I have experimented with embedding the project's different swf files, and one thing I've figured out is that entire project works without the exe if the the shell.swf is somehow started. I've been opening and running the shell.swf with CS5.5 flash professional. *I do not have the source project.
This leads to my question. All of the swf files of this application autorun when embedded into an aspx, except the shell.swf, which appears to be the directing file of the application. How can I get this shell.swf to autorun from an aspx load event? I pretty much need to mimic the Flash Professional's play button. This is an interactive application to educate young people about the Buffalo river, and it is somewhat robust. I am almost certain that once I can get the shell.swf running on a webpage, the entire app will run it's course.
I have been working with AspNetFlash, but I have not been able to achieve the desired effect. I need to get this running so the client can utilize the program over the next few months while I am re-writing the application to store user interactive data.

I'm using Flash CS4 and have linked to a video that hosted on a web server with one of the preloaded flash video skins (ArcticExternalAll). When the page loads the video plays without any problems, but I would like to make it so the user decides when the video starts rather than it automatically starting when the page loads. Is there any way to do this?
