Apr 24, 2011Most flash-based browser games don't seem to resize properly when the user resizes their browser window (i.e. ctrl+mousewheel). Example of bad resizing: Boxhead The Zombie Wars. Please refrain from playing for a moment, lest you forget about my question.
Some (surprisingly very few) actually do resize properly. Example (at least in Chrome): D.N.8
Is there a simple or standard technique to accomplish proper resizing? How do you do it?
Flash :: Javascript - Make A Console Plugin To Interact With Facebook Games Or Other Apps
Feb 5, 2011I'm playing a flash game on facebook. I know I can decompile it to find out all the commands and would like to make scripts to automate the game by calling procedures in the actionscript of the game. So I guess I would like to make a plugin also that would insert this console into any flash app and this would be handy for a lot of things. Then if anyone wants to hack a new game, u just decompile it and make a handbook of methods for people to make scripts with. So how would I go about making this console? I don't know if I could make a swf interact with the game or if it has to be compiled into the game's swf. Or if it is easier with javascript, that is cool too. maybe we can make a javascript library just for this. anyone can tell me more?

Dec 29, 2009I am setting up a Flash based MP3 player control (The standalone version of WordPress Standalone Player). I have a situation of multiple windows with players open. One window opens the other, so I have the window.opener property available. When the child window is opened, I want to programmatically mute the audio player in the parent window.
This works in Firefox, but not in IE 7 and 8. I know little about Flash/Javascript interaction and I'm stuck. I am not getting any error messages. To do this, the player SWF object has a setVolume() and close() function. These functions are not defined anywhere in Javascript so I guess that those are provided by the Flash object. This is supported by the following lines I found in the Flash source code of the player:

Then it works on Firefox and Chrome (the AS function is called and works properly) - (it doesn't work in IE though). How come it doesn't work with an object tag? How "safe" it is to use the embed tag instead of the object tag? Is it not obsolete? Note, that it is definitely not a timing issue - If I call the AS function from JS from an onclick function - then the results are the same.

Jul 14, 2009Whenever I use ExternalInterface to call a Javascript function in Firefox, the Javascript successfully returns a value to Flash. However, in IE, I always get 'null' for the return.
I know Flash is successfully calling the JS because i have an alert in the JS function that is firing. It's just the return that is null.
Javascript :: Flex - Works On Bin-debug, But Not On Deployed Server?
Feb 18, 2010My Flex application is successfully calling functions in a JavaScript file through the ExternalInterface class when these are in the bin-debug folder and the JS file is located in the same directory as the Flex app.But when I test the Flex app on the server, it is not interacting with the JavaScript. The only difference I can find is that on the remote server the JS file is being pulled in from a URL, instead of locally. The JS file URL is in the same domain as the Flex application, therefore I don't think this is a cross-domain issue. What am I missing?

Nov 9, 2010Mainly because I have it ALWAYS working locally, when I test in a browser, but the moment I deploy to a server it stops working.
I've added trace commands and confirmed that ExternalInterface is in fact available before adding the callback, and an alert command in the javascript method correctly identifies the flash object. I also checked and allowscriptaccess is set to 'always'.
Could it have something to do with the flash being served on a remote server?

By design of the person who wrote the flash component I need to use setVariable to communicate between the javascript and the flash player. I've read all over the internet that a lot of people have had problems gettin setVariable to work in FireFox. I designed my app in firefox because i wanted to use firebug to help me in development. Now that the whole thing has been built, i find that setVariable is not working in IE. Javascript :: Flex ExternalInterface Not Firing In Safari (works Everwhere Else)?
Aug 7, 2010I know there have been other questions on getting JavaScript / Flex ExternalInterface to play nicely, but I've what I think is a weird one. It works perfectly in every browser except Safari (on a Mac). UI Design In Flash Games?
Mar 21, 2010Background: I've been coding in VIM/C++/OpenGL for a long time.I've come to realize that this (VIM/C++/OpenGL) isn't the way to learn about programming fancy/cool-looking/futuristic UIs; and that the design of such UIs belongs more so in the artistic/designer world of Flash.
Anyway, I currently have a machine with MacOSX. What software should I install? What book should I read to learn about the artistic/design side of these futuristic UIs? [It's okay if the tools to design them are mouse clicking + graphical rather than coding based].

Actionscript 3 :: Using Too Much RAM In Flash Games?
Jan 22, 2012On my venture for quick rendering within Flash, I've worked out that the only solution is to create sprite sheets on the fly. Sprite sheets are created from a MovieClip using BitmapData.draw().
I have a graphics manager class which has a method that accepts a MovieClip and an int. The MovieClip is the target to capture graphics from, and the int represents how many different angles the image can be rendered at within 360 degrees.

Any advice around this would be extremely helpful. Note: I have made sure to utilize BitmapData.dispose() within my own dispose() method defined by SpriteSheet to clear up RAM, I am more concerned about how much RAM I can use at one given time (all game assets that will render ready to be used).

Aug 2, 2009I am new to actionscript. I am following a tutorial on lynda. I am trying to learn how to create flash games. I am using flash cs4. The tutorial uses flash cs3 and and actionscript 3.0. I added a movie clip to my library and enabled export for actionscript. I got a dialog box that says "a definition for this class could not be found in the classpath, so one will automatically be generated in the swf file upon export." I click ok. Then when I try to test it, I get an error that says "call to possibly undefined method". What exactly am I doing wrong?

If the first one is the choice then it would become essential to create each level manually of the game & putting level editors difficult.
Also if the later is the choice I find it too processor intensive....my frame rate almost breaks into half, while trying to manage so many objects together on screen.
