I am building a video player web-app that uses flash for playback and jquery/javascript for UI. By design of the person who wrote the flash component I need to use setVariable to communicate between the javascript and the flash player. I've read all over the internet that a lot of people have had problems gettin setVariable to work in FireFox. I designed my app in firefox because i wanted to use firebug to help me in development. Now that the whole thing has been built, i find that setVariable is not working in IE. How could it be a SWF is not loading in internet explorer chrome on windows but works fine on firefox and safari on osx? I called the file like myhomepage.fr/videoplayer.swf

View 1 RepliesI would want to catch click with javascript on a embed flash object on my page. I used wmode="opaque" (tried transparent too) and put a low z-index. I tried catching click on a div, on the object element and on the embed element. On FF (5), all three of them work. On IE (7 & 8), none of them work. Here's my code (I removed some attribute for flash like type or classid) :

I've tested on Windows XP/Vista, and I'm using Flash CS3 to generate AS2 content for Flash Player 9.
I've searched over an hour across the web for a solution, and done all sorts of fiddling with CSS properties and removing whitespace but no joy.

just started out using flex (man it rocks compared to cs4! wish i had switched earlier).I have two questions that i can't seem to find the answers to
1) how do i configure flex to publish to firefox rather than internet explorer?
2) is it possible to publish to the standalone flash player without bothering with a browser ...as you can do in the Flash IDE ?
I created the page in FLEX, but i have problem with scroller (the page content) and the bottom status bar from IE/firefox. They are easily overlapping each other (with statusbar in the front - hiding the content of the page) - is there any way to read the height of these elements regardles of the browser (to change 'paddingbottom' accordingly ) ? There frequently tend to be posts "My SWF works in FireFox but not Internet Explorer! I'm wondering, is there REALLY ever any truth to these and not just silly mistakes?
Is there any real difference between the Flash Player in Internet Explorer and FireFox?
Aren't they the same, and all the browser is doing is relaying those commands to the library/executable already on the computer? The reason I'm guessing this is because when you install Flash Player, it works for all installed browsers, and you don't have to install it to specific browsers, right? Or?

View 2 Repliesmy site is comprised of several images loaded dynamically and added to the display list. i declare a bunch of loaders on the first frame, and add a preloader progress listener to the largest image to have one preloader for all the assets. I then added a COMPLETE listener to the same image, and add that image, along with all the others in the onComplete function. i have two issue. the preloader doesnt work in Safari. but works fine in Firefox? and i'm totally stumped on what it could be? another compatibility issue that seems to be arising is that one of the galleries of my site which corresponds to the "drawn" link. also does not seem to be working in Safari, but works in Firefox. its a fairly simple xml based image gallery, which loads thumbs on to the stage, and then loads a larger version of each, when the corresponding thumbnail is clicked. the other galleries of the site work fine in safari, and are basically the same code wise.heres my code for the loading and preloader in the first frame

Recently struggling with weird IE9 + Flash problem I came over multiple advices to use classid and codebase attributes specifically for IE. But couldn't find any explanation of why they might be required or what they simply do. Any good writeup on this topic anywhere? Side-question: Can I just make classid value up out of my head or it should be generated according to some rules?

Everything was working fine with their old player, but now that they have switched to the stratos player, it fails to load properly in IE. It shows a grey video window, with the play button half showing on the left side, and the button won't work.

I know there have been other questions on getting JavaScript / Flex ExternalInterface to play nicely, but I've what I think is a weird one. It works perfectly in every browser except Safari (on a Mac). Chrome, IE, Firefox - all ok, but Safari, nope it just wont fire.I've copied my code below, can anyone see why it doesn't work in Safari pls ?(the 'are you sure' dialog window appears in Safari but the method in the Flex app just doesn't get called)

UPDATE 2010-05-14: If I'm not mistaken HD.se uses Flowplayer and all those flasvars are for that. Perhaps someone here is good with Flowplayer? I've never used it myself.

Then it works on Firefox and Chrome (the AS function is called and works properly) - (it doesn't work in IE though). How come it doesn't work with an object tag? How "safe" it is to use the embed tag instead of the object tag? Is it not obsolete? Note, that it is definitely not a timing issue - If I call the AS function from JS from an onclick function - then the results are the same.
works perfect on my macbook pro (safari, firefox, and opera) but when I view the site on Vmare Fusion Windows XP and use IE and FireFox the pages don't load... I don't know what to make of this. Has anyone hear or seen anything like this happen before? BTW the website was created in Adobe Flash CS4/ AS 3.0 and published using Flash Player 10.

I am seeing a 25% decrease in framerate under IE7 using Flash10b.ocx(10.0.22) and 50% decrease in framerate using Flash10c.ocx(10.0.32). PLugins under FireFox, Safari and in Mac OSX don't exhibit the same slowdown.
I would like to get help/confirmation on a performance problem that I see in Internet Explorer. The Adobe and Flash community is great on the Internet but I have been surprised to see no information on this, just a few reports about movie playback on 10.0.32 vs. 10.0.22.
My guess is that in IE flash plugin is passing draw calls to Win32 and that this is slow.
Instead of drawing each time on the bitmap using draw, cache the draw calls to a bitmap and use CopyPixels. When I do this the performance is the same across browsers, within 10%.

I have a website with a Flash banner. This has worked fine in all major browsers (IE7/8,Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera) for some time, but when I upgraded to IE9, the banner is displayed with a 1 pixel shim on the right-hand edge, which is throwing the layout off.know past versions of IE would display line breaks as white space and I wonder if that's what's going on here. From what i can tell, it's logging in fine and returning the user id but when i do a lookup on that user with Facebook.api(_user, handleUserRequest); I get an error.
Is there any known problems with the Facebook Actionscript graph api that affects IE only?
