Flash :: Javascript - Make A Console Plugin To Interact With Facebook Games Or Other Apps
Feb 5, 2011
I'm playing a flash game on facebook. I know I can decompile it to find out all the commands and would like to make scripts to automate the game by calling procedures in the actionscript of the game. So I guess I would like to make a plugin also that would insert this console into any flash app and this would be handy for a lot of things. Then if anyone wants to hack a new game, u just decompile it and make a handbook of methods for people to make scripts with. So how would I go about making this console? I don't know if I could make a swf interact with the game or if it has to be compiled into the game's swf. Or if it is easier with javascript, that is cool too. maybe we can make a javascript library just for this. anyone can tell me more?
I'm triyng to use the Facebook AS3 API but it's actually inconsistent. Frustrating.I'm thinking to use the Javascript SDK, from an Flash/AS3 based app, using the ExternalInterface object, and the addCallback method...
Does anyone have any experience making Flash-based Facebook apps? I'm trying to make one but the event listeners don't seem to do anything. It works fine on its own but once I upload it to Facebook, it stops working.
I'm trying to determine the practical difference between using the com.facebook.session.WebSession and com.facebook.session.JSSession. The documentation ([URL]) has more around WebSession - but the example I have which is closest to what solution I'm trying to implement uses JSSession and it looks like I could avoid all of the JavaScript pass-through & ExternalInterface calls I'm making. It appears that the benefit of using this new ActionScript Facebook API is to avoid having to make all of the Facebook calls via JavaScript.
I was wondering if its possible to automate games and apps that have been written in flash.
For example.
Suppose a simple card game was written in flash. To automate it I would need to -read all of the values of all labels on the screen. -figure out the location and identity of active objects like buttons and text boxes.
I suppose these values could be passed to some kind of executable flile running outside the browser which would then move the mouse and click the buttons as desired.
Mabey there is a better way of doing this ?
I tried running flash apps in Firefox with firebug and fireflash installed to see if I could see what was going on inside the flash files. It didn't work. Mabey debugging has to be enable inside the files themselves which is no use if they are owned by somebody else.
Is it possible to automate a gmae somebody else has written in flash ?
I'm interested in learning how to make flash apps that can send and recieve data to a server, but I know virtually nothing about networking and I want to change that. Whats a good place to start? My goal at the moment is to make a flash app where two people can go to a website and play tic tac toe (would this be possible with geocities btw, or would i need to get real hosting? Or could i use my personal computer as a temporary server?)
I am currently making a game for facebook,it is almost done except the saving part, i have tried shared objects ,but it doe's not work as i want it to.I was wondering if any of you could tell me , how most of the flash games on facebook autosave? Are they using an outside language, or shared objects, database, etc.?
Can Facebook apps be written in Flash CS3 or do I have to use Flex? I'm more comfortable with Flash, but it seems geared toward Flex. One of the Facebook SDK examples (FriendsList_flash) contains an FLA file but it won't load in Flash CS3. Does it require a new version or am I doing something wrong?
I'm in the planning and learning stages of building a facebook game. For the past year my foremost question has been, "Flash or HTML5?". Rather than try to decide the answer to that, I thought I would give the markets for both some more time to mature and learn how to design the game and how to manage the server element.
Over the last year I've devoured thousands of pages of text concerning game development and business development, along with getting a solid footing in AS3, python, php, C# and javascript. So, I'm most interested in picking a system that is best for the job rather than, for example, starting off assuming the game logic will be in python because that's what I enjoy most.
The game is at its core a strategy game and I plan to use many mobile phones extensively in addition to the standard facebook "invite all your friends" features. The graphics won't be flashy and will in most places be rather flat because of the thematic elements, rather than 3d isometric like farmville or other flash facebook games.
So from a technological perspective HTML5 doesn't have any real advantage that I can see over flash, and neither does flash have any real advantage over HTML5. If you see that one has a clear advantage over the other then I would be happy to hear that in your comments. I have five primary questions that I need your opinion on:
1) Which platform makes better sense for building a facebook game considering the future market trends?
2) Which platform has better inherent elements to help prevent cheating? (like flash being compiled into a .swf vs javascript being in plain text)
3) Which platform would be most attractive to the best game development talent for future hires?
4) Which platform is easiest to take technology from one game and use it for other future games? (like developing isometric graphics in flash)
5) Which platform is easiest to develop with a team?
I have a task to make simple game that deployed as a facebook app using Adobe Flex. Like most facebook game, I need to show high score, compare score with friends and some other similar functionalities, which I think need some sort of database thing.
The problem is a had only little experience about database, only have tried simple things with MySQL and I don't know where to start.
While running a Flash app, if I open a new or existing Facebook chat window, my Flash content disappears. I can continue to hear music playing from the app and when I close/minimize the Facebook chat window, my Flash content reappears. Is this a known issue? This is happening in Google Chrome 15 and Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 with Flash Player 11.
I checked this on my own Flash app as well as on another Flash app made by someone else and the same behaviour is occurring. It does not however hide non-Flash content. It seems to be a bug with Facebook chat and Flash content.
I have been trying to develop flash based facebook apps. After reading a bit on methods (there are many) I went with zerofractals bridge component ... basically an external interface wrapper that manages calls to the javascript api. Well, its been frustrating for me... some calls go off into limbo and generate no result event.. it hangs on various calls, never on the same one... im just over it. So now i need to decide what to try next.
I have had a hard time finding good flash/facebook documentation. I would love to see a good working example. As it stands, in addition to the above api frustration, my app chooses not to ask the user for permission the first time they come and doesn't load at all. They have to hit refresh. Lots of little **** like this is bugging me.
Does anyone here have experience with this? I need something that is reliable. I was hesitant to use the adobe library because you have to compile your api key and secret in it. Now im thinking about giving it another look, I can always bring those strings at runtime in from a protected place I guess.
I would like to know if any awesome dude knows if there are any AS3 Flex tutorials on the net or in books that explains how to build apps and games from scratch - step by step via Flex
I've been trying to understand how flash animations or a Java Applet work within a browser. I can think of a couple of ways - The Flash Player/Java Applet are machine code that's dynamically linked it, and given some parameters about the area of the screen that belongs to them; after that, they run within the same process space. The browser exposes an API that the player/applet use to talk to it and they live in a separate process. (Presumably they talk via sockets?) The API could correspond to openGL/X11/some custom calls.
These possibilities still don't explain things like how a button click can make the player full-screen, how it can play music, how it can inspect the DOM, etc. For that matter, is the video displayed by decoding to a sequence of images, and rendering them one at a time, or is there a more efficient way, e.g., of pushing the deltas in the image? The Wikipedia page on Java Applets
(1) talks about how the applet is run in a sandbox (presumably a separate process), but it doesn't say how the browser and the applet communicate. Perhaps the answer depends on the underlying platform?
I did suppress warnings in flex compiler using "-show-binding-warnings=false". But what I am interested to achieve is to suppress run time warnings (especially binding warnings - since I am getting data in model mostly in XML structures and it is fine for me if its unable to bind to its nested child nodes) in console (I am working on flex on Eclipse with the flex plug in). Is there a way to achieve it?
I use jquery.flash() plugin to embed flash into my website. The problem is that in IE6 this doesn't work. I tried swfobject (1.5), also, but it gives me (sometimes) some strange errors with n null or something like that, so I decided to use jquery.flash() also. (I use both swfobject and jquery.flash() now)
So, basically, swfobject works but gives me that strange error sometimes (all browsers), so NOT all my flash banners work, and jquery.flash() WORKS in all other browsers, except IE6.
I am developing a game and using the official "Adobe AS3 SDK for Facebook platform" libraries to connect it to facebook. In the libraries, you have two options for connecting to facebook, via the Facebook.as, and the FacebookDesktop.as.The Facebook.as is meant for Facebook Canvas and Web deployment, and it assumes the Facebook Javascript to be embedded in the page that has your .SWF.
However as we all know, games are frequently redistributed, just by taking the .SWF and posting it elsewhere, where most likely it wont have the Facebook Javascript embedded in the page.My question is, that in these situatins, is it a good idea to use the FacebookDesktop.as instead? IE detect the URL, and if we are on 3rd party Website, then use the FacebookDesktop.init() etc methods instead of the Facebook.init() ones?
What do you think? Are there any big disadvantages or a better way of doing it?
Most flash-based browser games don't seem to resize properly when the user resizes their browser window (i.e. ctrl+mousewheel). Example of bad resizing: Boxhead The Zombie Wars. Please refrain from playing for a moment, lest you forget about my question.
Some (surprisingly very few) actually do resize properly. Example (at least in Chrome): D.N.8
Is there a simple or standard technique to accomplish proper resizing? How do you do it?
As we know we can't $.show/$.hide to show/hide the flash component, which will cause the flash player to redraw it. Is there a flexible component that can hide/show flash components with redraw them?
I have a single page web app that shows real time data using just HTML/CSS/JS - I have managed to keep Flash out of it.
Now I want to play a small chime but I don't want to make the site dependent on Flash. It is just a chime to indicate a new chat, so it is not a huge stumbling block but I would like to find a way.
Is this possible - I am guessing no since you need something local to play the sound
I'm wondering wether there's a Javascript way to detect wether a user has any sort of flash blocking plugin installed so i can accommodate these users properly. For example, I use 'click to flash', but sites that use SiFR to render text are littered with "click to flash" buttons, which is getting very annoying. I don't use SiFR in my designs for this reason. But if I could spot wether there's a flash blocking plugin installed, I would simply not call the SiFR function.
I'm working on a web application which displays a 3D model (Acrobat 3D PDF file) and allows users to interact with the model. I need to be able to communicate with PDF from the web page: 1) Programmatically highlight a node in the 3D PDF (given the node name) when, say, the user clicks on a list item referencing that node name in the web page 2) The reverse way, know which node the user selected in the 3D PDF so I can highlight that node name in the web page.
My questions: a) The UI of my page is Flex. Is it possible to do this interaction directly from Flex? b) If not, is it possible to do this from browser javascript? (which I will in turn call from Flex) I have seen an article on browser-pdf communication [URL] but am not sure if 3D objects can be accessed from external browser javascript. c) Or does the Acrobat Reader ActiveX control expose methods to perform these operations from browser javascript? d) Lastly, do folks have any recommendations based on their experience, on which 3D CAD viewer software integrate with browsers and enable this kind of interaction? (Apart from Acrobat 3D, I am evaluating a few such as 3DVIA Composer Player).
Has anyone successfully included the facebook fanbox in a flash website? I just do basic stuff on the side and I have created a flash website for my buddys company. He wants to incorporate the facebook fanbox into one of the pages. Facebook has a code generator that outputs something like this:
My index.php file loads the Facebook JavaScript SDK and the FBJS bridge:[code]When I run this file on my server, I can communicate with Facebooks JavaScript SDK either indirectly through ExternalInterface calls, launching various Facebook UI dialogs etc. And I can also use the facebook-actionscript-api to launch the same dialogs directly from ActionScript. When I however use this index file as my Facebook canvas url and load the swf in a Facebook iFrame, the communication crashes the application. I'm not sure how to debug this but I think it might have to do with crossdomain security. Any ideas on debugging and/or solutions are welcome.
I've created a tutorial site which showcases how to create a few games, like the classic Catcher, Pong games in full AS3.0The tutorials are fully guided with step by step explanations, and source codes are provided.
It's very difficult to find a concrete answer for that question some people says yes and other no; i need to know before i pay the developer license fee.
