I have a class for MarqueetextField, I am trying to change the text inside a marquee tag and the color of the marquee using as3.I Don't Know how to Change the Color and Size,[code]But the Size is Very Small,How Can i Change the Color and Size of Marquee Text?
I *know* this is simple. I've read every thread on this board pertaining to this (including senocular's Best Of thread), done everything there and this still doesn't work and I can't see why.
I feel like an idiot even asking, because I've seen the examples and lengthy tutorials.
All I want to do, is change the color of a dynamic text field when you press a button. But I want the name of the field to be a variable.
Now, this is what's there:
1. the variable "_root.expinttype1" is equal to "branch" and is set elsewhere. 1a. There is an existing dynamic field called "branch" on screen.
2. On the button release I set the format:
[Code]....
Why? I set a dummy variable txt = _root.expinttype1; and even threw it into a text field to verify the data, and it shows "branch", so why doesn't this work?
Im really new to as3, and im just trying out some stuff, but i cant get a shape to refresh and change when i change its variable using a text field. If i change the text fields text before i test it, it works, but while its running it doesnt change it again.Btw, trying to change the stroke size.[code]i just want is so that when i change the strokeSize_txt text box, it will change the stroke for the shape.
I'm setting up a simple Flash contact form that sends a mail message using PHP. I'm using the Text Input and Text Field components and would love to style the background tint of the text fields so as to not be white. I want to be able to enter my own hexidecimal number. This seems like it should be easy, like a button or property or something, but I can't figure it out.
Using Flash CS4 on a Mac, in an ActionScript 2.0 file. (Can make a 3.0 file if necessary).

one text field that gets a line pushed onto it every so often, but with a catch different words will have different colors; desired:
Line1 in my text field is here Line2 in my text field is here
Making more then one text field is not an option for the amount of text that will be pushed into this field, is there some obvious way of doing this I have overlooked in the AS3 doc?
tField.text = "Sher Ali"; var tFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); tFormat.color = 0xff0000;
I have more inputText boxes on the stage that are loaded dinamic. I Let the user choose the font and the color. I also have a "save" button that will export everything as an XML. The problem is that I don't know how to get the font name and the color of the text field.
i have a button, with instance name lightblue_color. I am assigning a color to its color field like this: lightblue_color.transform.colorTransform.color = 0x65ffff; then i am adding an eventlistener to the button like this: lightblue_color.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ChangeColor); Then, in the function: public function ChangeColor(evnt:MouseEvent):void {trace(evnt.target.transform.colorTransform.color);} It prints 0. Why is that? Shouldn't it print 0x65ffff or do i need to do some type conversions?
I am learning about sharedobjects and have worked out how to save info to an so. Then i came across this script that creates an input field and allows the text color to be changed, how do I use this package and save the textfield input to a so.[code]........
Is it possible to change the way a array element displays in a dynamic text field. example this is the code i was given for flash AS2 lash 8

What I would like is to make the first two items off the array "Gen 1 Fail" and "Warning level 2" red text and warning three and four amber text and "end of list " white is this possible? I have looked at the string class but there does not seem to be a color property and text format seems to change the whole text field.
I am trying to change the background color of a textInput field. I have tried: ActionScript Code: var textInputFormat:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); textInputFormat.color = 0xFF0000; _textInput.setStyle("backgroundColor", textInputFormat); However this doesn't want to work.
Is it possible to change part of the text in a dynamic text field using Actionscript? For example can I change the color of some words that are in the middle of a sentence?
I have a xml menu bar with the menu titles in black. This titles are loaded from an xml file into a dynamic text field inside a movieclip. Well, i would like to set the color of the menu items to red when clicked and back to black when any other menu item is clicked. I know there is a way with actionscript (i have been going on circles around the color class the hole afternoon ) but i cant find it (i admit, im quite a dummy with AS).
I'm currently working on a project that involves adding text fields dynamically, and I realized I need to change the color of the highlight when the text is selected
I have an input text field in which the user enters text. This text is displayed in an output textfield. The user should have the option to change the color of a selection, This color should be applied to the selection in both the input and output textfield. After that the user should be able to further edit the text without loosing the fomatting.
But pictures say more than words so...
1. The user selects text and sets the color to yellow
2. The text color is set to yellow just like I want
3. This is the actual issue. When the text (in the input field) is edited all text in the ouput field goes black again That's not what I want, I want the colored text to stay colored when the input is edited.
This is my code:
Code: txt_Input.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, fncOutput) btn_Format.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fncFormat) var tfmBlack:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
I created a somewhat custom Spark button by doing the File > New > MXML skin and basing it on spark.components.button. The problem is that I need to add an extra text field to the button component and dynamically change that text...but of course, the property isn't recognized on a Spark Button.
Is there a simple way to add this field to my custom button skin & its property so it can be addressed? If not, is there a simple way to take what I've done and just extend the Spark Button? I can't seem to find any examples that show how to do it without writing it all up in ActionScript.
i have a dynamic text field that loads a variable into it (just a simple text file). this text file will be updated on occasion. i also have a movie clip to be positioned below the text field, however i want the movie clip to change position depending on how much text is in the text field so there isnt a large gap and so they dont overlap. is this possible? i tried the following actionscript to adjust the size of the text field depending on the amount of text. textField2.autosize = "center"; however i have no idea how to get the y position of the movie clip to adjust accordingly.
how I can have a text field load some data from an xml and then the user can change the text in the text field and send it back to the xml file. Like load, edit, send.

I have an input text box (txtInput) and a dynamic text box (dynTxt). I want the dynamic text to stay black but highlight a segment of that text in yellow depending on certain characters.
I have made a movie clip which I export to ActionScript 3.
In this movie clip I have drawn a text field (area? well TEXT) using the plain "Text Tool".
After selecting the text, and after I have entered "0" to be displayed, I edit its properties. It's Instance Name, defined at the very top of the list I have written "score". The text engine is TLF Text and the text type "Read only".
When I have made a instance of the movie clip using AS3 I can't get the value of the text instance named "score" - when calling something like trace(getChildByName("score")) in the constructor I just get null.
I want to be able to get the value of the text "score", and I would also like to change its value.
Just how do I get the value from ActionScript? I don't want to have to create the text progamatically and position it, and I doubt that I have to.
