ActionScript 2.0 ::closing A Browser Window In All Types Of Browser?
Nov 9, 2009
I have looked around for this and haven't found a way that clearly explains how to do this. More often than not the button will close the browser window in one but not another browser.
Is the a simple way of closing a browser window in all types of browser ( Or mainly Firefox, IE and safari on both Mac and PC ) with actionscript?

I am currently trying to work out how to get Flash to close the browser window it is running in. I've done a simple Javascript test version which works fine.. But if I try and use: ExternalInterface.call("closeMyWindow"); Functionality it does not. My simple Javascript version is cut and paste below and attached to this message.
I think my original post on this was lost following from the hacking of the site, so I'll try again.
Hopefully someone out there will have an idea where I am going wrong with this: I am currently trying to close browser window that a flash movie is running. Due to the fact that the browser window is not a popup "child", using the normal "self.close()" or "window.close()" brings up the IE7+ prompt of "This page is trying to close this the window" when it is executed.
Using AS3, and without modifying the published HTML file, I want close the browser window (IE/Firefox) in which my SWF is playing on click of a button. This is not a pop-up window that the SWF is running in. It is the main browser window.
Here's my code: btn_closeBrowser.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, close_Browser); function close_Browser(event:MouseEvent):void{ var jscommand:String = "window.close();"; var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("javascript:" + jscommand + " void(0);"); navigateToURL(req, "_self");}
Nothing happens when I click on btn_closeBrowser in IE or Firefox.
An old discussion - but still relevant: Does anyone know a script for a button making it able to close a Firefox browser window (on a mac)?
I have tried 1) variants of "javascript:window.close()" and 2) to make the button open a new window in itself, which immediately afterwards closes itself...
how does one close a browser window using the FSCommand. The normal 'quit' option works only closes a projector file. But i need to close a browser window.
I hear there is some technical javascript wizadry which allows one to do this.

I have to put a flash lesson I created on a cd for a client and while testing it I noticed that my exit button in the movie no longer seems to function. This is my close window function
function closeWindow(evt:Event) var url:String = "javascript:window.opener=self; window.close()"; var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url); try
Working on a flash poker game and I wonder if there is any way you can create a popup launcher that detects if the user tries to close the browser window. Right now the user can close the window and therefor lose the current round, isnt very user friendly
Trying to detect a browser close event and send some data to the database when the user closes the browser window...but can't seem to get it to work.[code]
i have a question that is almost like other questions but with a small but very important difference. how can i restrict file types for user with a popup showed in the browser.
The standard file input of html can limit that with a command but it does not work in all browser so it is not an option. I do not want to validate the file extension after the user has chosen a file but before that, when he is choosing.[URL].. but it uploads the file after the user has chosen it, i do not want to do that, i want to upload it after the user submits the form.
So the problem looks like this that there are some ways of not letting the user send a not valid file but they are not good because, one is that i validate after the user have chosen the file and the other is that i upload the file before the user submits the form.
I just want a simple thing to not letting to "chose" a not valid file, it does not matter if it will be made with java script or flash, just let it work.
I wanted to know if there is a way for the SWF to programmatically close the parent browser window or tab using AS. Also, is there a way for the SWF to tell the parent browser to bring itself to the top of the other windows (i.e. "bring itself into focus")?
There are many posts about how to close browsers, but so far I can't get any of them to work from a custom class. I am new to AS3 so I could be doing something wrong. My class *is* being called and the method *is* executing, but the browser (IE) does not close. I'm wondering if this might be a scope issue of some kind?
i have a flash site that links to PDF's with the navigateToURL function which works etc But now i would like Link to rather open up a download window instead of just a new browser window?
i've made a flash movie in res 600 * 300, now i want to keep this res don't want the user to be able to expand the browser window or change the res or anything how do i do this?
I want to put a movieclip with tools at the bottom of the window in the center with tools icons, it should have fixed posiiton so that user can scroll the main window having it always on prompt. I think I need the browser window size properties to do somenthing as this. Is there a way to get them?
<script>window.resizeTo(350, 500);</script> that is what I did it works but is there anyway I can get rid of the menu bars and scroll for the windowresize?
I'm currently working with a flash movie that opens up an IE browser to an external link.Since I'm working with a presentation that plays automatically after a few seconds and keeps loading new IE browsers with different links, I was wondering if there was a way with AS2, i can have flash close the IE window it opened?
I have a flashmovie that measures 950x675 px. If the user have a smaller webbrowser window than my movie i want the movie to be fitted in the browser window. But if the browsers width and/or height measures more than my movie i don't want it to fit (zoom), then the swf should only be centered.
I am building a portfolio site, and I want my content to occupy all the browser window.
Like this site: http://********theglass.com/ [URL]
I know GAIA have the ability to do this but I don't know how to use it, and the more I look to it, the more I think it will be overkill to use on my project.
I want my background to occupy 100% of the browser window and have the content to be centered.
Is there a much simpler way to do that without having to do it in a framework?
I have a problem and that is my swf will only play once in IE. When a user revisits the site from the same IE browser window or refreshes, nothing happens. If i open a new IE browser window, the swf plays and it plays from the IE cache as the preloader does not show again. This is happening in multiple versions of IE. I do not have this problem with Fire Fox, Chrome, or other non-IE browsers. Here is my preloader code:
loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS ,updatePreloader); function updatePreloader(evtObj:ProgressEvent):void {[code]....
I am using swfobject when publishing. I do not think this is the problem as when i publish straight from flash without swfobject and try to play my swf in the same IE browser window, the same problem occurs.
I'm running an online game site, and a few websites are really bad about embedding some of my games and stealing bandwidth.
To combat this, I replaced the original files with super-simple .swf files that redirected back to my own websites -- thus stealing back the traffic that they were stealing from me.
The problem came later when something changed with the new Flash player, and new windows no longer opened. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get new windows to open. I've tried a few different approaches, but nothing appears to work.
So what I'm wondering is, can this even be done anymore -- where I can switch out a .swf that's being leeched with one that opens a window to my own site?
