There are many posts about how to close browsers, but so far I can't get any of them to work from a custom class. I am new to AS3 so I could be doing something wrong. My class *is* being called and the method *is* executing, but the browser (IE) does not close. I'm wondering if this might be a scope issue of some kind?
View 0 RepliesI am currently trying to work out how to get Flash to close the browser window it is running in. I've done a simple Javascript test version which works fine.. But if I try and use:
ExternalInterface.call("closeMyWindow");
Functionality it does not. My simple Javascript version is cut and paste below and attached to this message.

Working on a flash poker game and I wonder if there is any way you can create a popup launcher that detects if the user tries to close the browser window. Right now the user can close the window and therefor lose the current round, isnt very user friendly

The above code is not working in Flash player 10.
I wanted to know if there is a way for the SWF to programmatically close the parent browser window or tab using AS. Also, is there a way for the SWF to tell the parent browser to bring itself to the top of the other windows (i.e. "bring itself into focus")?

Hopefully someone out there will have an idea where I am going wrong with this: I am currently trying to close browser window that a flash movie is running. Due to the fact that the browser window is not a popup "child", using the normal "self.close()" or "window.close()" brings up the IE7+ prompt of "This page is trying to close this the window" when it is executed.

Using AS3, and without modifying the published HTML file, I want close the browser window (IE/Firefox) in which my SWF is playing on click of a button. This is not a pop-up window that the SWF is running in. It is the main browser window.

I created a xml flash slide show that works great when I select test movie, but when I try to open the swf in a browser like firefox it does not work. The file comes up, but the images never get loaded in.
The XML file calls for the images that are in a child directory. The parent directory has the swf and xml file in it.

If it's working right, the top and bottom red areas should end up looking exactly the same.
I have "init.swf" loading "cc_home.swf" into a container. When successful, it should fade up (that animation is in "init.swf") and then load the white text (cc_home.swf). What you're seeing on that page is init.swf on top, and cc_home.swf down below.
When I test init.swf directly from Flash, it works fine. In the browser, though, it doesn't load the movie.
Here's the code I'm using in "init.swf" to load cc_home.swf (which I got from Kirupa):

I've got a SWF to which I added a Preloader scene. The preloader works fine when I hit Ctrl+Enter in Flash CS4, and select View > Simulate Download. The preloader displays, and when full, the movie continues as expected. However, the moment I embed the SWF into some HTML, and load from localhost in any browser, the movie doesn't continue until I right click and select Play. When I use the Charles Web Debugging Proxy tool and throttle the connection, then again preloading works fine, and the movie proceeds when done? Here's the source for the preloader:

View 7 RepliesI am using an external preloader (loader.swf) to load the movie (ayproj.swf). The preloader works fine when running the .swf file in flash player and when simulating a download in flash cs5 but when i upload it to the internet and open the index.html in which the flash is in a 100% frame it either sticks on 100% (Ff and IE) or just says "pl" (chrome) - the initial text in the dynamic percentage text box.

After hitting next on this animation you can see there appears to be blank areas on the animation. If you mouse over them you will see buttons appear which is their "over state." When I publish the animation and preview it in Adobe Flash CS5.5 all the buttons are visible and work correctly. It is only in the brower (chrome, firefox, safari) with up to date Flash Player that is is not working. This is happening in a number of animations I created originally in CS4 last year, and am updating them as CS5.5 using AS3.

This script is a LoadVars() script that sends info to php it does not need to receive anything, just send._root.onUnload does not seem trigger or the LoadVars script does not have enough time to run. I am not sure. Does anyone know how to get code to run if the user "x" out of the program?

I'm maintaining a ActionScript 2 application which uses createEmptyMovieClip to create dropdown lists (the list items being attached as movieclips). I can close the dropdown directly via removeMovieClip and such, obviously.
My problem is this: the dropdown should not only be closed when an item is clicked or the button creating it is triggered again, but also anytime the user clicks anywhere outside the dropdown (like onReleaseOutside, except the click also STARTS outside).
So far the only solution I can see is turning _root (or an invisible layer) into a button by proving an onRelease for it, but that's hackish in that it makes _root be treated like a button by Flash (pointer mouse cursor and all that). Do not want!
I'm wondering if there is a way to code the closing of a browser window which displays a published flash program (html). Say you have a button which says "Close" or "Quit". Can it be done? or must the user just click the little red 'X'.
View 3 RepliesI don't explicitly call the method xmlSocket.close() and a user is saying that when you close the app from the web browser the socket doesn't close properly and lingers for some time.
In my code I don't call xmlSocket.close() because the flash documentation says that as soon as you close flashplayer or the web browser the socket connection is automatically terminated.
