I am trying to download mp3 file in my web application using FileReference object. It works fine in flash environment but does not work inside the browser environment.

I use the file.download(URL) function and it works well.
However, the file is downloaded and saved to the hard drive using only the flash player. The browser is not aware of the download, and thus, if I want to show the progress of the download I'd have to make some progress bar myself. I know how to do it, but it would become really tedious and take too much UI space.
Isn't there a damn way in Flash to "send" a determined file to the browser so that it prompts the user to download it? It's an image file, so navigateToURL doesn't cut it since it will just display the image, both if I use a new tab or the current one.
I updated the flash library XML/SWF (chart library) to the latest version on my web application but the users still see the charts with the old library which is saved in there browser cache.How can I force the browsers of my users to download the latest version of the SWF files.I can't add a parameter at the end of the SWF file like : charts.swf?v=1234.
If I do that I get an error because the chart library load dynamically other SWF files of the library. The charts.swf file will be the new version but the other files will still be from the older version and I will get an error...
I am trying to use fileReference.download to allow users to download content from my site. The problem is, when I test it in Flash, it works flawlessly. When I publish it and upload it to my server it doesn't download. It'll bring up the download box... but it wont initiate the download. What I am doing is dynamically creating text boxes using the amount of XML nodes in my xml file. It will then assign the proper download file to that text box/download button.
its just not initiating the download in my browser.

I'm currently enrolled in an ActionScript course, and cannot seem to get my progress bar to work correctly. We were tasked with creating a simple image loader application, which would access externally hosted images (through use of a PHP proxy script), and then spit the image onto the user's screen (with a progress event and progress bar to track the image's download progress).
However, when I run it, I get these mysterious black graphical glitches everywhere, as well as a non-functioning progress bar. In some browsers I get the following error: "ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label NaN not found in scene NaN. at flash.display.MovieClip/gotoAndStop() at Document/imageLoadProgress().
Here is my code - I cant for the life of me figure out what is wrong. I figure it has something to do with the imageLoadProgress() function, or my progress bar (which is just a simple 100-frame movie clip with a motion tween and a "stop()" command at the beginning).

i have my project developed in Flex3, http:[url]....i am facing is, copying(Ctrl + C) the content from screen textarea when the swf is running in chrome browser.suppose, i have to add some text on the stage, so the text area which is opened on the left side, i can't copy the text written in text area, although by right clicking in text area, and selcting the copy option, thats working, but my client has asked for copying the content by using Ctrl + c, although it's working very fine with other browsers,
only chrome is not supporting copying(Ctrl + c), although selecting all(Ctrl + A ) is working.
I have a few buttons rigged up for downloading word.doc, mp3 etc
Problem is its opening the file rather than giving a download this file option.
This might be a simple question, but I'll ask it anyways. I know when I update my flash website I have to clear the cache to view the changes. Now, will all users have to do that to see the new changes, or will the browser eventually detect changes and download the new version?
View 1 RepliesI am currently developing a virtual world with Flash CS 3 and AS 3 in the client side. Everything seems fine until I found that the flash player in the browser stops working when you minimized the browser or open another tab. It makes a huge problem in my virtual world, because when one player moves from location A to location B, and in the middle of the animation process (moving the player from A to B) the user minimized the browser then the animation process (and another process I assumed) is stopped. That would make a different location between the player current location (in the client side) with the server side and another client.
My question is how we keep the flash player keep working although the browser is minimized or another tab is opened? Just like most of facebook games or youtube player (keep playing the video although you are viewing another tab).
I'm trying to download a zip file through Flash via a php file using this code:

Trouble is when I run Flash, the dialog box for the download just picks up the php file and not the zip file.
Months ago I downloaded the iSkysoft Free Video Downloader for Mac OSX from the iSkySoft Free Video for Mac website.
I've fully removed the app, BUT - I've inserted two screen shots to demonstrate what I'm trying to get rid of. I'm stuck with a very annoying "Download" icon that POPS UP TOP LEFT when I mouse-hover on any and all Flash Player content on my Safari browser. I'm on Mac OS10.5.8. This is ONLY happening on my Safari browser. Not on Firefox or Chrome. I've removed all traces of the app. I've been everywhere in my system Library - Application Support - Safari folders - etc, I've looked everywhere. Updating Flash Player makes no difference. Clearing all data in the Flash Player System Preferences interface does not get rid of it. Clearing the entire Safair cache does not get rid of it. Re-installing Safari does not get rid of it. I've tried anything and everything I can think of and I've run out of ideas! Short of wiping my hard drive and re-installing Leopard which I do not want to do, I'm stumped. Every time I hover my mouse over Flash content - I'm STILL stuck with this highly annoying "Download" icon in the top left corner of all Safari Browser Flash content.

Basically, this is a button that (when clicked) is supposed to allow the user to download an MP3 file. It works as planned except that when the button is clicked, the MP3 just opens up in the browser or in Windows Media Player or whatever default "playing" application the user has. I want it to work in the same way as when you right-click a link and choose "Save Link As..." so that when they click it they actually will save the MP3 file itself to their computer (so, the "Save" dialog box will pop up when they click the link), instead of the file just opening/playing.
Basically I created a flash site and uploaded it onto the server provider the client chose using cute ftp. That's all fine but now they want to add a link enabling the viewer to download a PDF straight to their desktop. As I can't upload a PDF file to the Flash library, was wondering if anyone had any tips on creating this function?

I'm developing a browser based file transfer utility, and I would have wanted to implement it with solely Flash. It has to have the ability to manage far larger files than 100mb. Does anyone know a way to overcome this limitation, or have another solution for file upload/download through Flash 8?

View 1 RepliesI know how to setup a preloader and I have that working. But when I debug the flash application and simulate a download, it has a blank background until a few seconds have passed. I know it is "downloading" the swf file and I'm wondering if I can show a progress bar for that, or do I need to have the swf file as small as possible and pre load everything needed and have all assets as a separate file I fetch? I found something with ProgressEvent.PROGRESS but this only loads after the flash file is finished downloading.

Ideally they would click on a 'download video' button and then would be prompted with the usual window allowing them to choose where to save the file and name it.

I am have to build a Flash aplication, that has to download a XML from a differente server and save on it's own server, at a predefined time of the day. Is it possible ans safe to make that in flash using AS3?

I created a xml flash slide show that works great when I select test movie, but when I try to open the swf in a browser like firefox it does not work. The file comes up, but the images never get loaded in.
The XML file calls for the images that are in a child directory. The parent directory has the swf and xml file in it.
