How do I download multiple files at once from a browser without combining them into single file? I found all kinds of multiple file uploaders, but downloaders are missing. There is only JUpload, but it's old and became buggy recently. I believe both Java and Flash can do this: select a folder at client's HD and download everything there.
View 1 RepliesI'm currently working on a Flex3/blazeDS/Spring/Oracle project. My requirement is display a list of files from an external FTP server in a grid, user can select single file or multiple files to download, and if user selects multiple files I should tar the files on the FTP server and download the tar file from FTP server to user disk. As per my understanding on the File Download in Flex we have 2 ways to do it. 1) File Reference 2) Using navigateURL and call server side JSP/Servlets to download files.
1) For FileReference we need to download the data first and prompt the user to save the file by clicking on some button. We cannot prompt the 'Save' dialogue without the click event for Security reasons in Flex (Workaround). But my client hates this process because its two steps and he want it in one step like normal file download with only 'Save' dialogue. Then I tried the second option.
2) navigateURL. Open a new windows make a post url request for to JSP/Servlets and prompt the 'Save' dialogue. The problem I am facing here is the pop-up window does not close once the download is complete. navigateURL does not return any reference to the window to close the window. I even tried different content types and headers and java script but none seems to work. The window closes when it is a single file and not for the tar or zip file. I would like to download the popup window for any type of downloads. I am using IE7.
I've built an audio player that is fed via an xml file. Users can use a 'previous' or 'next' button to select which track to listen to and then play it and this is all fine and works as it should. The problem I have is with the file reference class. I want users to be able to have the option of downloading the track. I can get this function to work once but once you download a track, choose another, then click the download button again I get the error message below:

This is absolutely driving me crazy. While I'm a fan of the availability of asynchronous calls in AIR, I'm finding that being forced to use them for something that should be SUPER simple is a severe limitation. So severe that I may end up abandoning AIR and writing native Android and iOS apps instead of using the shared AIR platform.
OK, now that I have that off my chest, here's what I'm trying to accomplish. I have an app that, when deployed, is relatively small. But once deployed to a user's device that user will log in using a login name/password. Once they log in, content specific to that user needs to be downloaded and saved to the local device. Since the content varies by user I can't include it in the package for deployment.
But I cannot figure out how to accomplish this: say I want to download 10 files and each file is 2-3mb and I want to show a "Downloading, please wait..." view during the download. The application cannot proceed until all 10 files are downloaded. But since from what I've seen URLStream and URLLoader are both async I cannot figure out how to block the app from opening the "View available content" and say on the "Downloading, please wait..." view.
Can I develop a Flash AS3 download swf that will let a user select a location on their hard drive to download files to and then start the download of multiple files (in the same way I can do with upload)? Or should I zip all the multiple files first and download zipped files to local disk. My users will want to download potentially hundreds of images from a server to local disk so I dont want them to have to click save for each one. Will AS3 let me pass an array of filenames and store the location that the user originally chooses? I ask because this sounds like it would have been not allowed for security reasons.

I use the file.download(URL) function and it works well.
However, the file is downloaded and saved to the hard drive using only the flash player. The browser is not aware of the download, and thus, if I want to show the progress of the download I'd have to make some progress bar myself. I know how to do it, but it would become really tedious and take too much UI space.
Isn't there a damn way in Flash to "send" a determined file to the browser so that it prompts the user to download it? It's an image file, so navigateToURL doesn't cut it since it will just display the image, both if I use a new tab or the current one.
I have an external SWF which i load into my main SWF with URLloader.... that external SWF includes several FLV-movies. I´m not sure how they have been imported to that SWF, probably with FLV component.... but I´m not sure and I don´t have any idea of possible instance names either.....
My question is that can I still create a preloader that would load all used FLV-files into a cache, my goal is that user could start watching videos directly after pushing play button, without need to wait any buffering...
I know all the names and URLs of those FLV-files if that helps..I´m looking for actionscript 3 solution for my main SWF but if someone knows the way to do it with html-wrapper, that would do as well (I´m using SWFobject for html-wrapper)
I generate a HTML page with VB.Net which stores several pinks to files. These links are formatted with JavaScript looking like the Windows-Explorer with folders and files. The problem: There are only download links for the files, not for Folders. A folder can contain Subfolders ,a List of Files or a combination of both. So if I want to download a folder, I have to click manually on every file-link. I have not the possibility to insert PHP or another Server-side language. my question now is: Is there a client side way to Download them by click on a Folder? I prefer Javascript but If it isn't possible Flash will be ok also.

Basically, this is a button that (when clicked) is supposed to allow the user to download an MP3 file. It works as planned except that when the button is clicked, the MP3 just opens up in the browser or in Windows Media Player or whatever default "playing" application the user has. I want it to work in the same way as when you right-click a link and choose "Save Link As..." so that when they click it they actually will save the MP3 file itself to their computer (so, the "Save" dialog box will pop up when they click the link), instead of the file just opening/playing.
I am trying to use fileReference.download to allow users to download content from my site. The problem is, when I test it in Flash, it works flawlessly. When I publish it and upload it to my server it doesn't download. It'll bring up the download box... but it wont initiate the download. What I am doing is dynamically creating text boxes using the amount of XML nodes in my xml file. It will then assign the proper download file to that text box/download button.
its just not initiating the download in my browser.

View 2 RepliesI updated the flash library XML/SWF (chart library) to the latest version on my web application but the users still see the charts with the old library which is saved in there browser cache.How can I force the browsers of my users to download the latest version of the SWF files.I can't add a parameter at the end of the SWF file like : charts.swf?v=1234.
If I do that I get an error because the chart library load dynamically other SWF files of the library. The charts.swf file will be the new version but the other files will still be from the older version and I will get an error...
This might be a simple question, but I'll ask it anyways. I know when I update my flash website I have to clear the cache to view the changes. Now, will all users have to do that to see the new changes, or will the browser eventually detect changes and download the new version?

I want to create an application for P2P video transmission. In more details, I need the following:
-User can switch on a web camera by clicking a button in an application.
-Application starts to take images from the web camera and sends them to a certain location (given by a port and IP address).
-Application starts to accept images send by another application and display them (images) in a window.
I would prefer to have everything in a browser. I know that everything can be done with Flash Player from Adobe (an example is Url...But I would like to know if the same can be done with JavaScripts.I am sure it the application can be written in Java. But can I use Java to have everything in a Browser.
My client needs to let a user record a message from the browser, then export the message as an audio file (e.g., WAV).How is this best accomplished? Flash, Java, HTML5? By best, I mean something that is straightforward to implement and also broadly supported.

The tut is from Flash 5 and that was before the "ACruncontent" file flash uses now in cs3. window opening the way I need it is critical for a client.
Is there any way to disable the "Download This Video" button from RealPlayer. It seems that when users have RealPlayer installed on their machines, it automatically adds a "Download This Video" button to any SWF that loads an FLV.
Edit: My intention isn't to prevent someone from downloading the SWF or FLV, I would just like to remove the ugly button that RealPlayer adds on top of my Flash content.

View 4 Repliesif you can do with the files that were loaded through the Loader class (or another class) remain permanently on the computer of who uploaded the application. That is, even if the person closes the browser or shut down the computer, the files remain on your computer. So when the person is running the same application will not need to wait until the files have been loaded (via download).
The person will enter in the browser page where the application is already included and you can use this application, without waiting any time since the necessary files are not on the computer. If any new files later arose in the application, this would be the only file to be loaded (downloadable) for the computer, which already found the other files that have already been loaded at another time. I can do this in actionscript 3.0? Note: Do not bother with my English because I'm using the google translator.
