More specifically I'm interested in setting the registration point of clips generated by a createEmptyMovieClip action so that they are centered and along the bottom axis.I suspect it may not be possible but I defer to those of who know more than I...

this is what i have.- createEmptyMovieClip "hold"- hold.attachMovie("logo","logo",1)the problem is that when attaching the logo...it's not centered. how do i center it...i've tried _x and _y but Movie Clips seem to have different dimensions than the actual movie size.

Professional :: Centering Registration And Transformation Point?

This is giving me such a headache.I have a movie clip and it has a centered registration point but the transformation point is in the top left corner. I want both to be in the center of the MC. I want a little circle with cross-hairs in t in the middle of my MC, if at all possible without moving my MC. But I cannot get that damn cross-hair to budge from the top left corner! When I go into the info window and change the X-Y values of the transformation point, the whole MC just moves to a new position. The infuriating things is, I've done it before but I just can't seem to work out what I did. Please don't tell me to drag the registration point in free transform mode. I can do that, but I cannot drag the transformation point in the same way.

I have the following problem. I have an MovieClip in a holder MC. I would like to turn the inner MC X with 'rotation' parameter, and still keep it in the holder mc to the right and bottom of the holder MC reference point. So after turning it should look like thatanyone can tell me how to do that? Basically a function that takes any X rotated in any degrees through X.rotation = ... and puts it back in place in the holder MC.

It's been a long time since I've done any work with actionscript, and alas I've forgotten nearly everything. I've tried to look for a tutorial that would explain basic animation with actionscript, but the one that I found on Kirupa was no longer there.

Basically I'd like to do this:On the stage I have a movieclip and I'd like the movieclip to move along the x-axis to a certain point and then back to the starting point again. The moving speed of the movieclip should also be adjustable.

I'm creating a game in flash for a university project, and learning actionscript and programming as I go. I'm very much still at a beginner level - at the moment al I have is some actionscript for drawing rectangles and moving them about the screen. This is what I'm having trouble with at the moment: I have a class called 'Creature', and I want instances of it to interact with each other. I want them to do something when they come within a certain distance of another instance. And I want them to be able to pick a random other instance to get the location of, in order to do something with that information.

What I think I need is: A function for telling the distance between two (x,y) points.
A way of referencing the nearest other instance of the class. And a way of randomly selecting from all of the instances of the class.

I am using AS2 with Flash 8 Professional So, my problem is that I currently have a man in the middle of the screen, who shoots a line towards the mouse when I click. However, when I use hitTest to see if the line collides with another object, Flash recognizes the line as a large box if it is diagonal, so the hitTest isn't very accurate. The line only satys there for one frame, so I can't have the usual moving-bullet-style. I am either looking for a way to create an imaginary line with AS from the starting point to the mouse and beyond, and tell whether or not this line intersects with an object... or some other way that I haven't thought of to fix my problem. Keep in mind that the line rotates from a center point towards anywhere around it for 360 degrees.

I am trying to develop a Quadratic Bezier Curve using the graphics.curveTo() method. Initially when i drag mouse to draw the shape, i use start point and end point of mouse to draw the curve line. Now i add a tip on this curve segment. I have x and y position of tip. I want to change the curve segment by dragging tip. but now i don't have the exact control point according to tip position. If i use tip coordinate as control point it reduce the height of curve and now tip does not lie on the curve segment. I'm trying to figure out how to find a point relative to the center of an object, modified by its rotation. For example, in the attached swf, I've been messing around trying to draw trails to a bitmap, coming out of the thrusters. I didn't have a problem at first, but as the ship rotated, the lines that were being drawn wouldn't remain relative.

I'm sure this is because I have no idea what I'm doing, and I've just been sort of idioting my way through it. That aside, is there an easy way to find the point I'm looking for? For instance, say I want a point at Y -14 of my ship, but I want that to remain relative to the ship as it rotates.

ve been trying to populate an empty MovieClip in AS3. I can get my head around it if I create an empty movie clip and place it in the library, and then add it to the stage and then add other MCs from the library to it.But I want to make multiple empty MCs and fill each one with MCs. The "scroll_right" image shows up, but in Debug, _root.win_Main.scroll_right.bar does not exist after this code is called. However, _root.win_Main.scroll_right DOES exist.

I found some AS2 code for creating a XML dynamic photo gallery, with thumbnails and big selected image. I extended that for more than one gallery, and all worked well except one thing: when I load a gallery with, for example, 6 photos and return to one with 2, the difference of 4 thumbnails of the first gallery remains, so the problem is that I don't know how to remove the mc instances that I've created with createEmptyMovieClip function. The code of the function that creates every thumbnail is:

it goes to a certain point in the timeline, which then initiates some code to load a movie clip onto a certain part of the screen.I made a sample swf to be loaded(home.swf), but the thing is, I dont want the user to see the things that are off the page of home.swf, that the user couldn't normally see... i was wondering the best way to solve this.As you can see, i already tried sizing the clip, but that only made it extremely small and didn't solve the problem.he main timeline :

Ok, so I am using a basic stamp and processing to create an interface in flash. So far I have it draw a line from the middle of the stage to the x-y of my custom mouse when you push a button. That's the easy part.What I am trying desperatley to do is to make each line stay on screen, and when you press the button a new line is drawn. This is where the problem is. Right now it's erasing the old line and drawing a new one every time.I have tried everything under the sky that my basic knowledge can think of. It seems that what I need is to name each new EmptyMovieClip with an increasing number at the end (like "line1" then :"line2" etc) but when I try that I can't get the lineStyle and moveTo commands to recognize the names.Any suggestions? Here is the part of my Actionscript:

inVarY = (inData[0]*2);
