ActionScript 2.0 :: Display A Dynamic Grid Of Video Thumbnails
Apr 3, 2006
i want to display a grid of video thumbnails, whose parameters are loaded from XML. the number of TNs is variable but the area in which to display them is of a fixed size. i'd like the number of rows/columns AND the TN's size to vary to fill the available space, whilst maintaining the TN's aspect ratio e.g. display area is 200w x 300h and there are initially 10 TNs (which are 4:3 ratio, say): 3 columns and 4 rows of TNs 62 px x 46 (i think) but if the number of TNs goes up to 30, or down to 3, i want the code to adapt, to give me a 6 x 8 grid or a 1 x 2 etc.

For example, I'd like to display images (fetched from the database using XML) in a flash file where in i want to display 3 records in a row and rest of the images to appear in the next row having the set of 3 images in each rows.
I'm having a hard time handling this task. any idea on how this can be possible? Please find below the code that I am using at the moment to display all the images in single row, but can't find a solution display multiple in different rows.

What is the most efficient method for displaying dynamically loaded thumbnails in a grid? I have 29 thumbs and would like to display them in three or four rows by three or four columns and have them scroll/ slide left and rightuld make this happen? No fancy flyins, rollover effects or any other bells and whistles. Just thumbnails on a grid that can move left and right.

Does anyone out there have code for an XML gallery that arranges the sliding thumbs in a grid of many rows and columns instead of a single row?

I really like the thumbnail gallery for its simplicity and beauty. But I would like to ad or vertical scroller (I'm unable to find it here too, maybe I'm blind, just I'm more at the end of my seeking options) or a make a grid thumbnails, that will show 2 columns of thumbs and 5 pictures in each columns, then under the 2 columns i would like to ad a sort of arrow or button that if my gallery have more then 10 pictures it will go on the next thumbnail list. I'm not looking for any extra fading effects or special movements. Just would love to have a single thumbnail grid on side, with option to have lists of thumbnails by 10 if there is more then 10 pictures or so.

I saw the tutorial here on how to make a Flash XML photo gallery with a scrolling thumbnail bar. Awesome!
The thing is, the example he DIDN'T choose to illustrate is the one I want make - exactly.[URl]..Is there somewhere else I can find this? The problem is that I have say, 16 photos and I want 4 displaying on the stage at one time. I want a forward / back button available to switch through the remaining 12 images, when the user clicks the buttons (as opposed to a scroller, which I find difficult to control and therefore less useable).
The problem comes when loading the four images from my XML file. I am able to load the first four, but how do I indicate in AS that the next four images are to be loaded, until there are no more images left? What if I add 5 more, I want to be able to have that AS load them. I was using a mod function in my script, but I keep getting the wrong remainder. I'll have to post the code later.

I am new to AS3, I am creating a gallery and stuck on a place. [URL]. Requirements:
1.) Need a nice loop for loading all thumbs, most important it should be physically separated, should not be looped via code.
2.) When I click on 1st button I must load first 4 thumbnails (which is already loaded), and with 2nd button it must load next 4 thumbnails from xml file, similarly with 3rd.

I am using a spark list control to display certain items with my custom Item Renderer. I am trying to achieve the following: (1) show a separating line between rows in my list control (2) even when not a single row has been added, I want a horizontal grid lines to be displayed in the background
I am not sure whether (1) and (2) can be achieved in one go. I can solve (1) by modifying my item renderer to have a border, I guess. But I want to know whether there is a better or more conventional way.

link to a tutorial that explains how to display data in a grid/table style view. I'm trying to create a catalog (using xml), I know how to display the information retrieved from the xml file, I just don't know how to display it in a grid/table style. And also the next and previous buttons I got to work while showing one at a time (kirupa xml gallery tutorial).

I have a file uploader that uses a file reference list (FRL) to upload files. However what I want to do is use the FRL to display all the images/files that were selected and then display them in either a list, or photo gallery. I would lean more towards the photo gallery approach but I don't know how to dynamically lay out the thumbnails properly.
What's the best way to display the thumbnails in rows 3 pictures wide and then skip down a line etc.Now ofcourse I don't know how many files will be selected so my next question would be can I draw the thumbnail gallery in a seperate container (or frame sort of like in VB) and then have that container have it's own scroll bars?

How would I go about editing the code for this tutorial: http:[url]......so that there are 8 thumbnails displayed at a time and instead of scrolling based on mouse position, the user clicks a next or previous button to display the next set of 8 thumbnails in the xml?I attempted to get it to display the thumbnails vertically by changing some x values in y and a width variable into height, but that failed miserably.This site is an example of what I am trying to accomplish: http:[url]....

I want to load a range of images (20-30) each contained in a movie clip, and position them on the stage in a grid (table) format using actionscript. These images will be loaded from an XML file to make updating them a simple task in the future.
I have followed a tutorial to produce a "carousel" and this allowed me to have as many images as I wished loaded by the actionscript. I am sure that it is possible to have the items arranged however one would like provided you code the script correctly, and this is my problem. I cannot work out the correct code to get the movie clips into the desired arrangement.
how to position the items in various arrangements/patterns. I do not want a scrolling thumbnails solution. I want them to be multi-row/column.

I'm going to be building a site for a photographer and would like to be able to do something like the thumbnail navigation in this example: [URL] I'm assuming it's adding the thumbnails to the Display Object via an array based on an external XML file, and displaying them once their corresponding full-size images are loaded ... Perhaps it's building the nav simply by looking to see how many photos there are in a folder on the server (i.e. no discreet XML added for each shot). Not sure if this idea is even possible -- would like to hear from any of you if in fact it is.

I am using Lee's video playlist.It all functions great.Instead of alphaNumber text for the list, I would like to create thumbnails. I prefer small movie clips for thumb nails.Is it possible to modify this xml code to accomplish this? I have 3 movie clips for thumbs names mc_1 mc2 and mc3. Or, do I need to modify the AS also?
Code: Select all <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>

I am building a dynamic thumbnail gallery, where each image links to a fullsize version. (Sounds simple so far, but wait!) The thumbnails are created dynamically - an xml document provides the image path and description. I create a movie clip for each one on the fly, then load the appropriate image into it.
My problem is when I try to convert each movieclip into a button which loads the fullsize image. Each button loads the same image- the last one in my xml document. If I try placing "img[i]" inside the onRelease function, it comes up undefined. Here's that bit of code:
var thisimage=img[i];
eval("thumbnail"+i).onRelease = function()
{
// do something
loadMovie (thisimage,_parent.emptyclip);
}
And here is all the actionscript:
var xpos=0;
function loadXML(loaded) {
if (loaded) {
[code]...

Who knows how to get this kinda menu: [URL] to only display a certain number of items per line? (I'm referring to flash file down the page a little that says "Choose Thumbnail" on it. The source code for this flash file can be found on page 2 of this tutorial)
As you can see, it currently has 4 thumbnail images, and all 4 of them are displayed on 1 line. But what if I wanted to tell Flash to only put 3 per line (thus 3 on the first line and 1 on the second). This thumbnail image menu is dynamically loading data from XML, so if I wanted to add more images to the XML file, I wouldn't want these extra images added to the same line as they would run off the page! I need them to load under the existing ones..

Is there some way around this? (other than loading the images through a proxy). Maybe an alternative url which can be used?

I would like to create a simple 2D interactive grid. The user should be able to increase and decrease the number of axis (both X and Y simultaneously) that compose the grid, and also the scale of the grid itself (Zoom in and Out).
If this goes well enough, I would like to be able to plot graphical content on the grid that visually changes as the grid itself changes. They should, in some way, be linked to one another and correspondingly affected by the same two parameters. This, however, would be a second step. I am more concerned with the base grid model at this point.

building a dynamic gallery using PHP and mySQL. So far I am able to load the thumbnails from my database, and create an onPress event for each thumbnail. I can get a static .jpg to load, but I can't get the thumbnial to link with the corresponding fullsize image dynamically.
Basically I have loaded the filenames from the database into two arrays: thumbnails[] and fullsize[]. I know the database is working perfectly, I can load the fullsize images or the thumbnails into the thumbnail placeholders.
